I think the reason why Maximus easily took down the Yao Guai was through the high Calibre of his gun, which was some form of 10mm pistol. Due to it's high caliber, close range, it doesn't seem like it was too easy.

That was the fantastic 10mm pistol, the caliber in real life that is suggested to defend against a bear attack in terms of light carry.

Anyone who is new to Fallout, I know most aren’t, there are three types of Super Mutants. The ones that the Master created were known as the 1st Gens, first generation Super Mutants that were smarter and can get along with humans and ghouls. Then you got the Nightkins which were created by the Master as well, they were a bit schizophrenic and they’re skin was a purple color do to them using stealth boys. Then you got the ones that were created on accident as Tabitha would say (in Fallout NV) and those were the 2nd Generation Super Mutants. They were bigger and stronger than the 1st gens, but they were also dumb, the 1st gens would always call the 2nd gens “dumb dumbs.” I wouldn’t say that Behemoths aren’t a type of Super Mutant since they are pretty much a 2nd Generation Super Mutant that’s been growing and getting stronger when the time passes. The reason why I mention about those three types of Super Mutants is because hope to see them in the next season probably in California or in New Vegas, maybe they’ll show some towns like Necropolis, Broken Hills, or Jacobstown.

To be fair, the yao guai in the games are tougher to kill for gameplay purposes, but realistically speaking, a 10 mm shot to the head would kill it just like any other bear
