When I first watched The Devil All The Time it terrified me to my soul especially the characters like the preacher played by Robert Pattinson and the serial killer couple are haunting and disturbing. By the way I really love your channel you both give great recommendations for books and films. Keep up the beautiful work and hope your channel gets more recognition that it deserves. ❤

I was a bit late on this video despite being one of the people to jump up and down for film recommendations from you. Anyway, I have watched some of these films and going to watch the others! Anyway, when you mentioned Taste of Cherry, I don't know why but I sensed a respect in your demeanour for Iranian films. So, please recommend some of your best Iranian films of all time! We are all ready for that!
@ReadADayClub8 ай бұрын
Hahaha jump up and down for film recommendations. Thank you. 😊😊 Hope you watch the others soon! Oh Iranian films have changed the way I absorb cinema, really. The way Iranian filmmakers capture and portray emotions and reality, never come across anything of the sort. Ever. - All of Abbas Kiarostami's films. - Jafar Panahi's The White Balloon, The Circle, No Bears, Taxi Tehran, Through the Olive Trees, 3 Faces. - Asghar Farhadi of course, all his works too. And along the same vein, Nuri Bilge Ceylan (Winter Sleep, The Wild Pear Tree, Distant 🖤).

Martin Scorsese/Paul Schrader's Taxi Driver I recommend if you haven't seen it already. I've seen a few of these you've mentioned and now I'm intrigued to find the ones I haven't. Great video.

I’ve only watched Taste Of Cherry. Can’t find my review/notes but remember thinking as though the protagonist meets his past and/or future selves and tries convincing them of his choice. Haven’t gotten round to watching Midsommar, but the trailer is really well made. Anybody reading this please go watch the trailer! ✨ While not of the same genres and more mainstream, Birdman and Sin City are a visual treat. This was a surprise video. It’s been a while since I’ve watched a film. This is a great list to shock myself to start watching again. 💫

These are my favs too. Peppermint candy is really an underrated one. Btw, the piano teacher is based on a novel of same name by Elfriede Jelinek which is equally or more good. Oh yeah, innaritu's death trilogy is something that i keep going back to whenever i long for something moving. Oldboy actually left a permanent mark if i have to put in words, only other movie that came close to that for me was "Incendies(2010)". highly recommend that if you haven't watched that yet. My other recs on similar lines would be, 1. akin's "Head-on(2004)" & "the edge of heaven(2007)" 2. An Elephant Sitting Still(2018) 3. detachment(2011) 4. Revanche(2008) 5. Dia(2020), a kannada movie. 6. Bleak Night(2010) 7. Gaspar Noe's "I Stand Alone(1998)"

Oh my my...those recommendations!! Thank you so much. :):) Yeah I've been meaning to buy the novel, The Piano Teacher. Will get it someday to add to my home library and then actually muster the courage to read all of that agonizing, unsettling stuff. Looking forward to it! Alejandro González Iñárritu's films have been "experienced" indeed. He always leaves me speechless by the end of his movies. Unbelievable and flawless! Incendies was very scarring yes, although on a whole other level than these other films. I've only watched that movie once but I often think about re-watching it. It's just that the material is so heavy, I feel like I'll have to go through that all over again - such a heartbreaking narrative. I'll get to it eventually though. Thanks a lot for your recommendations. Really appreciate it.

Just finished Climax after your recommendation. Can't imagine how they shoot it. It doesn't feel like they are acting. Looks like 100% real ( more real than a vlog). In the end felt like watched a 1.5 hr long warning video to stay away from LSD. Or Choose your group very wisely with whom you are going on a TRIP. Thank you.
@ReadADayClub8 ай бұрын
Hahaha yes, such a horrific warning but effective indeed. Trust no one, sometimes not even your own self. Repulsive sometimes our instincts and behaviors are, truly repulsive. It's crazy how it was all shot so perfectly!
@Rajesh-M8 ай бұрын
@@ReadADayClub Don't you think sometimes those repulsive expressions (verbal and non verbal) present our own self in front of us, about which we are not truly aware? And give us the opportunity to see that and may be work upon it.

Ah, great to see 'The Chaser' getting the love it deserves, along with the more famous 'The Wailing', which is just a horror masterpiece. Two movies that immediately jump to mind when the word 'disturbing' enters discourse are The World of Kanako (2014) and A Tale of Two Sisters (2003). Excellent, twisted nightmares, both of them. PS: If you have not watched the japanese thriller Confessions (2010), I would highly recommend it. One of a kind movie.
