Butter is full of things needed for bone health. I had degenerative bone disease in my right foot. Started in my early 40s. When I first switched to the human health 1950s British diet in the prologue of Good Calories I craved butter. Ate about a pound a week for months. And as I was no longer starving myself on lowvfat, high fiber non foods and the weight was coming off, I ate all I wanted. Then one day I was walking downstairs and realized that my foot no longer hurt. Forbyears every step had been painful. Just part of life. The massive cravings were gone by then. I was suppose to be in a wheelchair by age 57. Almost 67 now and I can hop on that foot. While my instinct told me it was the butter, it was not until years latter I understood that butter if full of things needed for bone health.

The key takeaways from Thomas DeLauer's video on "9 Foods with Scientific Merit to Help You Live Longer" focus on the importance of incorporating specific foods into your diet after the age of 50 to support longevity and improve health outcomes. These foods, chosen based on scientific research (including both human and rodent studies), offer various benefits, particularly in areas of cognitive function, inflammation reduction, and overall health maintenance. Here's a concise overview of the main points: 1. **MCT Oil**: Beneficial for cognitive health and ketone formation, suggesting potential to mitigate cognitive decline. 2. **Kale**: Offers anti-inflammatory properties, especially when cooked, which can help manage age-related inflammation. 3. **Blackberries**: High in anthocyanins, supporting brain health and improving memory and motor functions. 4. **Meat**: Associated with increased life expectancy, emphasizing the importance of protein intake for muscle maintenance and overall health in older adults. 5. **Goji Berries**: Have liver protective effects and can influence blood pressure positively, though their high sugar content calls for moderate consumption. 6. **Lime**: A rich, bioavailable source of vitamin C, crucial for cardiovascular health by preventing LDL oxidation. 7. **Chicory Root**: High in inulin, a fiber that supports weight management, reduces cravings, and improves metabolic health markers. 8. **Pectin**: An anti-inflammatory fiber found in certain fruits, beneficial for gut health and inflammation control. 9. **Milk Protein Isolate**: Might offer better benefits for older individuals due to its balanced amino acid profile and sustained protein release, supporting muscle health.

I've been squeezing fresh lime juice into my iced tea for a long time now. Regarding the chicory study, I don't think comparing anything to a maltodextrin placebo for health is a valid comparison, as the maltodextrin is obviously detrimental. As for meat, the emphasis on lean meat is unnecessary, because we need essential fatty acids too. We're pretty sure now that the saturated fat BS is just that, and the fat in meat isn't close to being all saturated-especially in wild / 100% grass fed.

There is so much scientific research done about a plant-based diet is good for anti and even reverse aging. I will stick to that. I was already Vegan because I don't want to support animal cruelty. But there are numerous health benefits for as well a Vegan as a plant-based lifestyle.
@ShaneMacrawly
@ShaneMacrawly 3 ай бұрын
The hard thing is to get calcium, certain vitamins, and be able to get enough protein. The main issue is majority of people who do vegan mix fat and carbs and say that it is healthy fats, and a lot justify eating copious amounts of fruit sugar. Unless doing heavy cardio, sugar really doesn’t need to be consumed that much, this is shown in athletes. Plant based may have health benefits, but it’s so hard to get everything you need, and you have to worry about toxins in soil, heavy metals, and other forms of anti nutrients. Unless you are eating heavy fermented vegan proteins, that have also chelation properties, it’s difficult. There are no complete sources of protein, just amino acids. Also, buying certain vegan foods are not sustainable and may not be in the best effort for animal welfare. Avocados, almonds, and many other things are grown for us and take away from animal habitat. I had to stop it personally because I figured my health was more important for my family and future generations, to develop health issues and have to rely on them later in life. Or not be able to walk my daughter down the isle, or not see my grandkids graduate. Doesn’t seem worth it. Also not sure if most people and/OR vegans are worried too much consuming snacks all day.. Oreos, potato chips, pringles.. just a few examples of bags and cans that are made for our consumption, that if the trash ends up outside can harm animals just as easily. Not saying that vegan foods are bad, just saying it’s hard and without complete protein mixed in the body it has a difficult time.

Are oats gonna kill me? I tried to be low carb & grain free for a year and it just didn't work out. I'm eating grains again, but no gluten, just whole oats and quinoa. I cook them in water and with quality protein and fats. So are oats/grains actually bad for me? When I eat them I'm energized and satisfied for hours, but I have been listening to keto/carnivore zealots in the past year so I'm afraid this will be bad for me in the long term. Also I'd like to add I'm 20, not very active but I am slowly starting to excercise more

Ah yes, I look forward to adding 6 grams of MCT oil per kilogram of body weight to my daily diet, which would be about a pound of MCT oil per day. 4200 extra calories per day sure seems worth the hypothetical increases in memory from a study on rodents.

The thing about emerging, theoretical claims, such as relying on rodents for the benefits of MCT oil, etc is that in 12 months time we could find Thomas headlining with 'We were wrong about MCT oil'). MCT may even be bad for you because of some micro-substance in it that we did not know of before or some unconsidered reaction in a part of the body. So why take the risk when there are so many other fairly well proven good things we can consume?
@MrGarymola

MCT oils are not new at all & have been researched for decades with good results....you can get them in other ways too such as unrefined coconut oil & many more....this type of saturated fat is very healthy in moderation contrary to outdated dietary claims.

@@MrGarymola Yes I know MCT oil is not new but my point was the recent claiming of benefifs without sufficient evidence and relying on rodent studies. Thanks for the reply.

@@dennisward43....I don't get where you come up with "recent claims of benefits" when coconut oil & other foods with MCT have been studied for a very long time & the benefits are well documented....one famous nutritional scientist has said that the term saturated fat simply means a stable fat & has been unfairly maligned for many decades....outdated food narratives have been replaced by the fact that healthy fats are vital.
@dennisward43
@dennisward43 3 ай бұрын
@@MrGarymola I'm not against fats. Never have been. Far better than carbs, especially those high in sugars like most ultra-processed foods, grains, potatoes and other foods high on the glycemic index. But I do consider saturated fats to be risky if eaten in excess. I eat either eggs, meat, salmon or prawns every day and often avocados. I just don't believe all the hype about health claims no matter where they come from. The biggest reason is everyone is different and foods that may be good for some may be bad for others. The science of nutrition is in its infancy and there is so much we do not know about it. There is a lot of theory and guesswork surrounding it. The twaddle often once widely spoken about the benefits of low-fat foods is proof of what I am saying.

This comment might sound insane, but if you find my other comment it will make more sense. I think you should find the best veterinarian you can and sit down and go over animal diseases and diets. A vet would be a great source of info on what animals should and should not eat. You’d be better able to analyze studies on animals. I do realize most are rodent studies. Just a thought. 👍

I’m gonna give you an expert opinion on why rodent studies are probably not the greatest thing to go on I have bred all kinds of rodents and other critters. Snakes eat them in case you’re wondering. 😆 If I run out of rodent food and feed dog food, they will be more likely to develop tumors. More protein. I have seen all kinds of different animals that have been given the wrong diet and developed all kinds of ailments. Too much protein to certain iguanas and it will cause all kinds of problems. Wrong diet to a monitor lizard that wants fat and protein… same thing. Some tortoises do great with eating meat…. Some will develop health problems. Fatty liver etc… Having said all this. I believe that unfortunately only studies that are done with chimps or some other monkey/ape can truly be something you could probably bet would be the same in humans. Just my two cents from years of experience with critters. We are not critters. 😆

Sorry, not a cat expert. I was just about to add to my comment that I do realize we are not reptiles. We are mammals, but I’m sure if you feed a lion a zebras diet they’re not gonna do well. 🤔 Reptile expert in case you’re wondering, with a ton of experience with those smelly rodents. 😆

The thing with these researchers and studies is that they are done on rats. We are not rats and our bodies and the way our bodies function is totally different from rats. It will be nice if these studies were done in humans. Don’t get me wrong. All the nutritional suggestions are excellent and very healthy but again. Our makeup is different from rodents.
