Quick tip on re-using the plastic drink containers once they are empty: LOOK AT THE RECYCLE SYMBOL ON THE BOTTOM!!! It’s a triangle shape and has a number inside. If the number is 1, that means it’s ONLY INTENDED FOR ONE USE-and SHOULD NEVER BE RE-USED!!! The numbers 3&6 should NEVER be used for food-not even once!! The number 5 means there are no bpa’s and it is food safe and can be re-used indefinitely. Plastics contain carcinogenics, and as a rule are NEVER safe for food storage, microwaving or eating from them. But if you MUST use plastics, please use only the ones with the number 5 inside the recycle triangle!!! Aa a side note, plastic is ONE molecule away from the hormone estrogen!!! Do with that what you will… just please everyone, stay safe. Another side note-stirring foods such as batter or sauces or even eating cereal from a plastic bowl, where the spoon scrapes the sides of the bowl, puts micro-plastics into whatever you’re mixing or eating!! The human body has no organ that can filter or purge these micro-plastics from your body. They enter the bloodstream and can cause damage throughout your body!

Thank you! You are so right! Even if a plastic is safe for one kind of food like cereals, it doesn't mean it's safe for oils or acids. And it's not only the microplastic that can cause cancer or other evil stuff. The additives are as dangerous! Oils and acids can dissolve additives from the plastic.

I love wool dryer balls, but I find that on occasion they come apart. Instead, I use old socks that are worn out, missing their match, or have holes, typically two at a time, and roll them into a ball and seal them off. I put multiple balls into my dryer, and our clothes come out so fluffy and dry faster. I stopped using fabric softener sheets more than a year ago.

I never throw away the wax paper bags in cereal. I store them folded in half. I use them to shake up coating on fish and chicken, etc. Also the seams pull apart easily and use to roll out cookie dough, pie dough, biscuits, etc. and clean up is simply wad up and toss! Also great for cooling cookies and breads on. I use it for many other ideas, just cut any size you need to cover breads while they rise. There's no end to the usefulness of these bags and if you prefer just wipe the inside with a dry cloth and store them all in a bag together!

I really enjoy these helpful videos and the comments. it’s cold here in Ohio with snow now, and was thinking of when I was young and our mother would put socks on our feet, then bread bags, like a sock, and the rubber band(like elastic)at the top. Then our shoes or boots. This was to keep our socks and feet dry from the snow. It’s not fashionable 🙄But, it’s a tip for a tough situation. 😊She was raised in a large family, post WW2. There were a lot of make do experiences she relayed, and that we experienced in our childhood, based on her knowledge. The same was true with my husband’s grandmother and the wealth of knowledge she passed on to me. I appreciate people giving their advice on how to reuse and make do, we get from reading the comments, from all over the world!

Reusing food bags: I have a cat so we go through used kitty litter. To keep the smell down, I scoop the wet into whatever frozen food bags I've accumulated and deposit those into the used kitty litter container (which has a lid). When that is full, then it goes out to the landfill trash can. As for the solid waste, I just scoop that and flush it down the toilet. The cat doesn't seem to mind and the city hasn't complained either. Kitty Litter sold in boxes: When we empty a box of kitty litter, I remove a panel with a box cutter and scissors, vacuum it out and wipe the inside with a rag and some all purpose spray. The cut edge, while not sharp can stand a strip of tape for reinforcement. Then you have either a tall vertical magazine style box or a shallow horizontal bin (with a handle). I cut mine according to the shelving unit space I have available. I have several craft projects that I like to keep in their own totes to keep things organized between stages of work. Children making art would like these to keep things safe from damage , too. These also work great for sorting supplies into or storing items such as a garage shelf or in the office. As a magazine style box, anything that can stand vertically fits but since it is larger than a typical file folder or magazine, it can hold several narrow tall items well as smaller containers you need to keep vertical (acrylic paints and brushes, art papers, etc). And of course since it is fairly temporary, when the project is done it can be put out for recycling or broken down and reused. Reuses that come to mind is anything that requires flat thin cardstock panels (3 hole punch and use to separate pages in a binder?) or even papier mache. The handle part can be attached to other items you would like a handle added to such as another box or one of those taller jugs that don't always have built in handles. I prefer Swheat brand of kitty litter since it doesn't have clay and it comes with a multipurpose container that isn't made of plastic. Since it is more expensive, I appreciate getting a little storage bin to use with each purchase! Hope these ideas are helpful to your cat loving viewers!

I bought a tub of the Brach's soft wintergreen candies back in December. I was almost ready to throw the empty tub away, but decided to put my Boulder paper napkins in it. They are a bit smushed toward the bottom, since the container is a little narrower at the bottom, but I like having a napkin container with a lid. This tub would also be handy at outdoor events (cookouts, birthday parties) to keep the napkins clean and keep them from blowing away.

Update: Okay, I broke down and bought a square plastic container that my Boulder napkins fit into a lot better. I DIDN'T throw away that empty Brach's tub. I'm going to save it for the next outdoor birthday party for my grandson and put the napkins in it. Okay if napkins at the bottom are smushed for a few hours for a party. I just wanted something nicer for the napkins that I have to look at every day.

I do something similar for recipes. I also use those store hangers for hang drying awkward items that don't hang on a normal hanger, such as my cycling shorts. I use the TP cores for organizing spare USB cables. Another tip I learned that doesn't require anything is on a plastic bag such a bread package, once you've used up a few slices, just twist the top a couple of times and pull it over the bag to close it, instead of hassling with the plastic clips or wire twists.

I make a weekly list now of recipes focusing on the freezers and pantry and refrigerator but it extends with left overs, random leftovers, once a month restaurant visit with old pals. The week now is half a month. We garden and for those 6 months the garden is the master. The other 6 months is using all the frozen or dried items or any recipe. Plus our hoarder pantry because of covid. We were not going to go hungry. Now I have organized the pantry, got rid of any bad really expired or gone off items. Using the whole pantry up of covid hoard. Dry beans, lentils, etc.

Draw around the sole and make a cardboard template.. draw round the template shape and cut around 1.5cm bigger all round from some hard-wearing fabric, a thick piece of plastic and anything else to add thickness, like an old thick blanket or fleece. Pin them together and sew all around about 1.5 cm in from the edge, using strong thread. Make sure the durable fabric is on the bottom of the sole and stitch it to the slipper tucking the edge in out of sight as you go. Take your time and check that the sole is in the right position as you sew it. Good luck.

This was a long tail save but I had lidded cardboard cylinders a little smaller than oatmeal containers that I use all the time as well as similar mixed nut containers with snap-on lids. They were finally claimed for free by a Girl Scout leader who was making a craft with her girls. That's exactly the repurpose I had in mind for them. 👍

I also buy Stok coffee to make my one coffee a day. I take the label off those and clean them out. I freeze them at an angle about 1/2 full of water so I can then pack them to go for baseball tournaments so I can refill my sons thermos he keeps in the dugout on hot summer days with cold water. It also doubles as “ice” in our cooler to keep the rest of our stuff cold too. Great camping hack too for having potable water.

To get the label and the glue off of the jars, plastic or glass, just use a blow dryer and it will heat up and the glue and will come off and so is the label. Easy Peezy lemon squeezy. 😉
