I was told to spread my money across different things like stocks and bonds to protect my $750k retirement savings. Now, with the markets being shaky, should I keep adding money to my portfolio or consider other options?

The key to big returns is not big moving stocks. It's managing risk in relationship to reward. Having the correct size on and turning your edge as many times as necessary to reach your goal. That holds true from long term investing to day trading.

I’ve been making decent returns over the past few years with this combination: 1. SPYG (S&P growth fund with 0.04% expense ratio) 2. VOO (Vanguard S&P 500 fund) 3. VIG (Vanguard dividend fund) There is some overlap between the holdings and heavy tech sector allocations (particularly FAANG) but the diversification is still spread out reasonably enough for my purposes. Then also instead of buying a bond fund… consider buying treasury bonds and bills directly especially in this environment of current high interest rates. Love the channel overall. Happy investing everyone!

Amazing video, A friend of mine referred me to a financial adviser sometime ago and we got talking about investment and money. I started investing with $120k and in the first 2 months , my portfolio was reading $274,800. Crazy right!, I decided to reinvest my profit and gets more interesting. For over a year we have been working together making consistent profit just bought my second home 2 weeks ago and care for my family.

Hi. I’ve been forced to find additional sources of income as I got retrenched. I barely have time to continue trading and watch my investments since I had my second child. Do you think I should take a break for a while from the market and focus on other things or return whenever I have free time or is it a continuous process? Thanks

I was advised to diversify my portfolio among several assets such as stocks and bonds since this can protect my inherited portfolio of about $2.5m. I’m used to just buying and holding assets which doesn’t seem applicable to the current rollercoaster market plus inflation is catching up with my portfolio. The 3.6% dividend yield is pretty impressive. I've followed a similar approach (investing in dividend stocks over decades) but currently have a yield of about 2.7%, so my monthly income (on a similar sized portfolio) is quite a bit less, but still pretty good nonetheless. I can totally relate to your approach, and it's nice to see someone able to generate such returns just on dividends. I'll continue to refine my holdings, but I'm not in a bad place either.

@Jessica Mamikina that is why it's the best time to invest if, and only if, you are planning to buy and hold. Your funds are becoming devalued, which makes them cheaper to buy, which in turn will optimize your eventual ROI. I'm buying ETFs that I'm going to be cashing out in 40 years. So even if it takes 10 years for the stock market to bounce back, for me that's just 10 years of cheap stocks to make money on for the remaining 30 years that I'll be holding.

I bought into Berstein's portfolio after his book came out, and it just kept underperforming. Tested it on Portfolio Visualizer and it showed a 6.6% CAGR, which is fine if you're willing to sacrifice performance for safety, but the max drawdown is 17.3%! Some of the other portfolios you mention here have a similar problem: overdiversification. Just do 70% S&P 500 and 30% T bills. Same risk as Bernstein, but 50% more growth. Want more growth? Add more S&P. Want more safety? Add more T bills. Done and done.

@Zeroneii3 I would never hold individual stocks. That is way too much like gambling. Also, most people don't have time to research companies. A simple 1-4 fund portfolio is all anybody really needs. Don't overcomplicate and gamble it all the way on individual stock picking because the average investor will end up losing it all.
@Zeroneii3
@Zeroneii3 3 ай бұрын
@@AK-47ISTHEWAYThe statistics are skewed The average investor buys and sells individual stocks too often They are more likely to hold funds over the long term Also, multi fund makes absolutely no sense Funds overlap on top of eachother A single fund portfolio would be better Also, if you feel like you're gambling when purchasing individual stock, you didn't do enough research on the company Only invest in companies you know well and are confident will succeed in the future

I enjoy my day to day market decisions being guided by a portfolio-coach, seeing that their entire skillset is built around going long and short at the same time both employing risk for its asymmetrical upside and laying off risk as a hedge against the inevitable downward turns, coupled with the exclusive information/analysis they have, it's near impossible to not outperform, been using a portfolio-coach for over 2years+ and I've netted over $300k .

The most popular investment portfolio strategies include diversification, where you spread investments across different asset classes to manage risk. Another is the growth strategy, focused on capital appreciation through high-risk, high-reward assets. Income-oriented strategies target regular income from dividend stocks or bonds. Finally, there's the value strategy, seeking undervalued assets for potential long-term gains.

According to Warren Buffett, dividends are less valuable for growing businesses and more suitable for established ones. Investing in companies that offer dividends might be seen as parking capital for steady returns, especially for those relying on portfolio income. This approach resembles bond investing, serving as a means of generating consistent earnings.

Realty Income, Vici and Stag offer exposure to high-quality properties and consistent income through dividends. QuantumScape is a bet on the future of solid-state batteries, with enormous potential in the electric vehicle market. Tilray is a play on the cannabis sector, which is expanding globally. The S&P 500 ETF balances risk, providing stability with large, consolidated companies. 📈📈

Honestly, the first three strats are probably your best bet until you understand the market well enough to branch out on your own. Eventually, you'll want to take on an increasingly larger portion of "low-risk" assets (typically bonds) as you near retirement. I wouldn't even bother considering many of the other "recommended" strategies given: Dave Ramsey: Financial advice falls flat beyond 'get out of debt.' Bill Bernstein: Exposing yourself to a single foreign market (Europe) while excluding opportunities in the overall international market seems irrational. Ivy League Schools (particularly Harvard): notoriously mismanage their asset portfolios, often underperforming the overall market.

I've been working it all out in a spread sheet over the last few weeks. What I have so far is the first 4 portfolios for 5 year average from 2022 of the load and inflation adjusted total return: 100% VTSAX = 6.99% 90% VTSAX 10% VBTLX = 5.99% 70% VTSAX 20% VBTLX 10% VTIAX = 4.16% 55% VTSAX 23% VBTLX 11% VTIAX 11% VGSLX = 3.33% That was the easy part. The bulk of my work has been creating ETF alternatives that I have access to in the UK. Interestingly, some have a high correlation coefficient to these portfolios with slightly higher returns, which will be from slight difference in UK-US inflation and fund fees.

Just a bit of clarification. The 3 fund portfolio may be a Bogleheads recommendation but Jack Bogle himself was not an advocate for international inventing. He did say in many interviews that if one was going to invest in international stock mutual funds, limit it to no more than 10-15% of your portfolio but he constantly did not recommend it. His reasoning was that many companies in the S&P 500 such as Coca-Cola already gives international exposure.

Avoid "target date" funds. Their strategy is to move to a larger and larger percentage as bond funds as you reach age 65 - but that presupposes you will retire and need those funds at age 65 (not necessarily true), AND they tend to move toward bonds too soon - so you lose years of potential growth you could have had in equities.

I was a salesman for many years and was constantly being taught a new way to plan my year. After a while, I came to the conclusion that it almost doesn't matter which plan you use, as long as you actually have a plan and stick to it. One plan might work better than another - this year - or it might not. But as long as you 'plan your work and work your plan' success is almost automatic. It seems that financial planning works the same way.

The right portfolio takes the volatility and turns it into stability through either rebalancing, cash optimization, asset allocation, efficient portfolio management. That is the key. You try to convert the peaks and troughs of the unstable and turn it into a more stable asset class. That is the key to designing a great portfolio. Your strategy with designing a great portfolio isn't to beat the market or beat anything. It is to manage risk.
