The Toyota 2TC and 3TC engines were indestructible. They should be on any tough engine list too.

Well my 1989 Toyota Supra engine came with an engine flaw, the 6th cylinder head gasket was prone to fail, but an American made head gasket made out of steel was the fix.
@dmandman92 ай бұрын
That’s what happened to my 1987 Supra. The head wasn’t even warped. So I replaced the gasket and made sure the bolts were properly torqued. I actually torqued them slightly above spec. Unfortunately, the car was totaled about 50,000 miles later. So I don’t know how long the repair would have lasted. When I performed the job on another vehicle, I noticed that the head bolts were loose. I suspect the factory specs weren’t tight enough along with the poorly designed head gasket. Your fix was probably the best fix

Well-done! Top-notch video & narration! I love longevity engines, esp. inline-6's for their inherent smoothness. The Toyota 2JZ-GTE & GE in the Supra are also found in the Lexus SC300 & GS300. I have a '98 SC300 & that engine is a 1 of the key reasons I bought the car. (The SC400 & LS400 sported the 1UZ 4.0L V-8, which was so good that it was certified for aircraft use as well.) Re: the EV's - Impressive power, range is improving, but until there's a much more robust charging infrastructure in U.S., I'll stay w/ internal combustion mills - and they sound & feel so good, esp. w/ manual gearbox. They have soul.

My gf's old 1980's Datsun 280 or 260z, I forget but it had a 6 cylinder engine with like 200,000 miles on it and ran like a clock.

The only problem with the 22 R engine was the plastic timing chain guides. Once the timing chain system was replaced, they’d run forever.

I nominate the Suzuki J20 4 cylinder found in Chevy Trackers and Suzuki Vitaras 1998-2005 . DOHC with good low end torque, great growl winding out. 220K miles so far...been overheated twice... still original head gaskets

The 3.5L V-6 in my 2012 Toyota RAV4 is a real jewel. Not sure how long it will go, as it only has 58k on the clock, but it's smooth and very strong. Gets 23-24 mpg in 50-50 town and country driving but up to 29 mpg on a long trip where it is in 5th gear most of the time. Can only wonder what this engine would do if hooked up with a 6-spd. auto trans. 30+ mpg on a trip seems an easy task.

You forgot the Toyota 2F (Inline 6), dude! 1975-1987 Landcruisers. Easy 300k miles. Common to 500k & beyond. Mine has 257k and runs as smooth as the day it rolled of the factory line. Has never left me stranded in 20yrs. The "F", introduced in 1953, was nearly as dependable.

I know it offers increased power but diesel is nasty and the engines always sound like it’s knocking and pinging. Especially when pickup truck owners let the DEF run out and they leave black smoke & soot everywhere. Never understood the diesel preference but to each his own.

I wish there was a reliable, unbiased report about current engines...US CAFE regulations has made too many manufacturers build small unreliable 4 cyl, turbo boosted engines for todays vehicles...making them JUNK!. • NO, electrification is NOT taking over. In fact the EV car is becoming less desirable in the US. Except for Tesla, all American makers are reversing decisions to make EV's. In China, EV's are self-igniting at an incredible rate due to China's failures in this tech. BTW: I have owned 4 GM Astro.Safari vans. All were equipped with 4.3 V6's. Three exceeded 321k miles befor going to the junk yard...BUT, they went coz Indiana road salt destroyed their frames. My current 2000 GMC Safari has 197K and no rust coz I now live in Florida. It should be god for 400K, easily as it runs like a drream.
