Bought my 2008 Subaru Forester brand new in October 2007. Aside from the usual wear and tear items that need to be serviced and replaced, my Forester runs like a charm and just turned 150,000 miles. Regular maintenance is the key to making a car last, if you take care of it, it will take care of you. I'm very happy and satisfied with the Forester and it's boxer engine, despite the bad rap many mechanics give it. I'll take a Subaru over any European or American vehicle any day.

Subarus are good cars, the CVT does not get a lot of love and I get it, but for a lot of drivers who don’t use their cars to race from stop light to stop light the Subaru CVT mated to their 2.5 motor is all they need. Their 6 cylinder has always been an excellent motor, and their manuals have a good track record as well. Subarus owners just need to be diligent with their maintenance schedule and car will last a long time.

Yes, the 360 was inadequate for U.S. highways, but I experienced one in 1971 in suburban San Francisco Bay Area. Great for going back and forth to school in town, where speed limits were 35 - 40 mph, especially for a guy with limited budget. My buddy bought a 72 FF-1 with the boxer engine. It displaced 1.1 liters if I remember. Ended up replacing the motor at 80K miles. Two of us removed the spare tire and lifted the motor out, very light, That experience sold a whole generation of friends on Subaru, though the originals were "agriculturally slow, agriculturally dependable." Great fuel mileage.

Understand suicide doors was because if you open the car door when the car is moving the wind would grab the door pull the person out of the car if they didn't use the seat belt. Note the older car didn't have seat belts. Depending on speed it could bend the door backward.

My ‘16 wrx, was relatively cheap, fun to drive, really good in the snow, very good safety ratings, never had one issue with it, even after it was heavily modded, and had really good trade in value when I bought my Tacoma.

I came home to California after my stint in Vietnam to meet Subaru 600 sedans pickups and vans. They were all over the place. And they were great little cars.

It would be great if Japan made rockets for Mars because Id rather trust a Lexus to a Cadillac. Reliability makes a big difference when your going for the long haul 😂

The day Toyota makes a car with a Turbocharged 4 Cylinder Boxer GDI engine with a CVT transmission is the day we have to put Scotty on Suicide watch.

The boxer engine is a 2.4L. It produces 340 HP some say it can be tuned to 400 HP+.

This video should really be titled "the history of subaru." I was expecting an explanation of the new wrx motor and what makes it better.

Hello Scotty! Love your channel, it is both informative and entertaining to say the least. I was wondering whether the newer Subaru outbacks, 2020 or 2021, are worth looking into, have they improved the engines (head gasket issues?) and the CVT? In some of your previous videos, you urged people to stay away from them. I want something that gets good gas mileage, but can be taken off road (light duty). Appreciate your thoughts on whether current model subaru outbacks are much more reliable and better vehicles then in past model years. Thank you!

I have a mechanic friend who used to work on Subaru's, He's Mexican and calls them La Basura.

Just started working for the company, they're really cool cars especially with all the newer features but still have head gasket amd cvt problems. Make sure you have a set warranty if you get one and take it to the dealer to keep it legit, other than that they're great great to drive (I'd suggest leasing new, less to worry about)

Two anecdotes. There was a Cadillac dealer on Long Island that gave away a free Subaru with every Deville sold! (1970). the safety of Subarus was so bad, that around this time the feds kicked Subaru out of the US until they improved matters. Single master brakes, no beams in the doors, three lug nuts per wheel, and truly abysmal crash test ratings were the primary causes. The only thing keeping me from considering buying a late model are the head gasket issues. Any thoughts?

Had one , did everything it was designed to do and that is why I now drive a rebuilt 1998 Suzuki Sidekick Sport so that I can go anywhere I wish to go and not worry about a scratch in the pretty paintjob . Power not really , speed not really, gas mileage is better. what more could you ask for?
