We had a physical Gaton demonstration, but one of the pins was slightly bent and needed repair. We tried a computer simulation of the same phenomenon and discovered that it did not have the same impact on students as the actual physical device, so we got the physical device repaired and used it from that point on.

The green tomato is super simple, lining all the words in tomato vertically causes all the letters to line up and if you put a line from top to bottom, both the left and right side of the letters are perfectly symmetrical while when you do the same with the word green, the letters are not symmetrical at all. Definitely over explained that, but you get my point

Yes! Pop-Pop Boat: birthday candle powered, super simple steam engine named after the sound it makes when operating. The engine is just a metal box, heated by the candle, with two pipes coming out of it. Steam builds up pushing water out with an explosive pop- which then creates a vacuum sucking more water in to repeat the process. Patented in 1915 these were very popular in the 1940's.
