I know for one, there were 2 escalators that were being worked on. One in arrivals and the one going towards the airtrain. But that's crazy how one of the escalators just caught on fire. I pray for those that were injured. God bless you all. Be safe.

I love how ridiculous news channels have become. You go to the effort of sending your reporter "to the scene," and he's not even standing in front of the correct terminal. Why bother? It would have made more sense for him to tape his segment in the studio and show a b-roll of Terminal 8.

Everyone had to be evacuated from the whole terminal. Everyone. That means the news crew most likely couldn't enter the area, not even getting close enough to zoom in, not when the area is still a safety issue.

@@KingOfTheLab I get it--they are somewhere at JFK, as if that somehow adds value or credibility to their report. In my opinion, it does not add any substance inasmuch as the visual clearly misaligns with the story. In reality, they could have taped this report at the LIRR Jamaica station since it's in the same borough as the airport. I mean if the only criteria for visual relevance is to be somewhere with the same name, then I guess anywhere within a 15-mile radius is good enough.

You admit you get why they probably couldn't be at the terminal, but at the same time, you want them to be exactly in the middle of the scene so they add more relevance and substance to the story. They're reporting on an event that happened before they got there. The best they can do is interview some of the witnesses. Plus the investigation is still unfolding. I'm sure some travelers have recorded the event and we'll no doubt see them later on. It's not a war correspondence journalism where the viewers get to see what's happening as it's happening. It's a 2 minute clip about what's probably accidental fire.
