I sometimes tell myself that I'm confused about certain social situations. I'm scared I'm a bit socially "wrong". But, I can definitely decide to think in a way that I think is most useful to me and others. I never thought my feelings of confusion could be related to decision making, and that it's not about the "correct thought" but what I choose to think. I'm excited to try applying this, the theory makes sense (to me at least). Thanks!

I used to scold myself all the time when I made a mistake. One thing that helped me turn it around is when I hear that voice, I say "I hear you. But this is not helpful, and only hurts me from making progress." It lets the negative voice feel heard but redirects the attention back towards being compassionate with myself. Thanks Julia, this is such a timely reminder.

The confusion part really struck me. I think that's why I'm struggling so much to trust my own thoughts and opinions. The reason I'm afraid to trust myself, without verifying with someone trustworthy first, is because I've been taught to believe my parents thoughts and opinions to be the right one (been gaslighted a lot). So if I turne out to be wrong, that would mean they were right and it was stupid of me to ever misstrust them. But I'm getting better & I hadn't even noticed myself calling this fear confusion, so thank you!

Making a mistake, taking it as failure, but more so as REGRET!!!!!!! Huge for me and then how I treat myself afterward...really kick myself and it gets bad because the mistakes pile up and feeling badly just piles on. Thankfully I’m listening to this video and others, thank you Julia! So many of your videos have connected with me in almost every point. I’ve been watching you for about 2 months or so. Thank you. However, I love listening to you and your talks are always helpful with understanding/ processing my inner struggles. Thank you for all you give here for free on YT; it's greatly appreciated!

1st, I relate to this, being on both the giving and receiving end since I have adhd. 2nd, I think her point is that in that case it would be better to directly state what you need , instead of saying I'm confused which sort of makes you sound like you have a problem, to instead focus on the solution and choose to express yourself by saying , Lets go over one point at a time or I'm struggling to follow all your points lets break this down together , or in my opinion the best way to do this is by practicing reflecting listening and say okay every couple minutes I need to summarize what you said to ensure Im following you, or let me write notes ,or lets agree on the point or goal or takeaway of this meeting or discussion before we start, I believe her point in all of this is to focus on dealing with these moments by focusing on the solution not the problem, instead of claiming that youre confused, practice doing what it takes to find clarity...just my thoughts though

I'm definitely by far my worst critic. All for the reasons you said, thinking it is to motivate myself to be and do better. And I know most of the time i'm not a terrible person, but my emotions take over, and then I go into this very quickly escalating hatred to myself. My gf always calls me out for it, which is good- she gets upset at me whenever I hit or slap myself.. So I definitely do it less and less when she's around- but when she's not around, I sometimes fall back into this. This is something I really want to focus on improving and getting out of my system. I actually teared up just hearing you talk about it, because it reminds me of the abusive relationship I've been stuck with for a very long time.

Hi Julia, thank you so much for sharing your wisdom and knowledge with us! Years ago I constantly thought negatively, horrible things about myself, thing's I wouldn't dream of saying to others. By chance I found a book by Louise Hay "you can heal your life" she says exactly what you are saying here, I became very aware of what I was doing and changed the thoughts immediately for a positive or loving thought. Basically I spoke to 5 year old me. I also started meditating. I can't even go into detail how much it's changed my life for the better! The main thing for me was it made me healthy, I had fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis, I have been fully discharged from hospital, on no meds for 3 years! I love myself now, I love everyone/thing. I am so grateful every day I'm in love with life. ❤x

I connected most to saying I’m stuck, I always knew deep down that I just wasn’t sure how to go about fixing things and would love for someone to just wave a wand and fix my fears and my life but then I said to myself I’m stuck for so long I began to believe I truly was mentally and physically stuck. I know better now. I’m going to ask myself the hard questions and the right questions and I’m so eager now to put in the efforts and to continue working deliberately on myself and to not fear regret or the possibility of it but to make informed decisions, and if I’m the future regret comes, I’m going to remember to feel that emotion and move from it because it’s really what makes life life, the ups and unavoidable downs. Thank you so much Julia, God bless you!!

This is so helpful on our path to emotional health, vs being blown around by every word or feeling that we either receive from someone or say in our heads to ourselves. Thank you for reminding us that you also struggle with these, but know there is a healthy way to move through our lives in more positive ways. While I am determined to grow my emotional intelligence so I fully show up for the 2nd 1/2 of my life, I have walked away from News cycles for now. So far I am 60 days sober from my previous news addiction and I feel so much more positive! It doesn’t mean I don’t want to help the world, but right now, I am helping myself become stronger, more positive and resilient. The regurgitating negativity in news is wounding and stirs up anger in me.- but, yes, I will definitely vote!
