In Canada everyone selling cars says "Rust Free" but what they actually mean is the body isn't rusty yet... but the underside is absolutely destroyed. It's an absolute joke to even ask about rust up here... you just go inspect the car and look under it yourself.

I don't understand why people don't take better care of them, it costs them so much extra in the end when they rust out.

Canada is a VERY big place… not every province has rust problems. Just like only certain states in the USA are prone to rust.

I think it's funny that some owners say a car was not tracked, but did club DE events in it.

I bought a car that spent its first 32 years in Florida, (after my do-diligence) I grabbed and pinched the vacuum lines all over and they were still supple, and the original dash was crack free. I knew someone had loved on it for the first portion of its life.

Like how Doug thinks about all the ways to ask the questions so as to get the information you really want and not offend the seller “It’s not what you said it’s how you said it” I do think things get slightly more complicated when buying a daily car vs a toy / collector car there’s more money involved typically and sounds like a more pull your hair out situation with some of those sellers

I would add…there’s all the information in the world online about specific things to look for on different cars. Maybe not the exotics as much but KZbin has 100s of videos on every popular car

You MUST ask the corvette sellers if their corvette is best and why it’s best. Thanks Doug

I like to think that since i've had (and currently still have) several cars that have gone to the moon, and that I do all my own service work (outside of highly specific tasks like an alignment... all my cars have the Firestone lifetime alignment program) indicates I'm at least somewhat competent at maintaining my cars.

How about a similar video or two about how to approach selling a car. Something I'm considering doing soon.

"What's the lowest you'll take?" is one of the stupidest questions ever. It's like asking someone to negotiate against themselves. If I say my bottom dollar is $10k and you hand me $9,999, am I going to say no? No, that's stupid. $9,998? $9,997? $9,990? $9,900? $8,900? Where does it end? Unless someone is desperate for cash, there may not be a true bottom dollar. I'll sell it for less to my friend than a random Joe.

I always reply to that question with "What is the most you'd pay?"
@jerzsubbie2 ай бұрын
@@christodd5552maybe I’ll try that next time. I buy/sell online a lot and that one just screams “I’m stupid”, so maybe I’ll find someone stupid enough to answer with the most they’ll pay. 👍

When buying at ask for let’s say 10k … ans the regular car/truck is good everything else aside: I always say and have in hand; 8k. Will set it down and walk away while I say I have to think about going any higher. It’s a big decision, I have to talk with the misses.

I usually respond with “I don’t negotiate against myself”

After working in car sales, in "normal" cars...stereotypically, with husband and wife.... The husband wants to test you. You sell to the wife... In my experience, I left the business because I hated the customers so much...although if you had someone who was a pain, I'd sell them a Holden/Daewoo Captiva. Customer's need to realise that commissions are paid, you'll get a better discount than deliberately do your best to screw someone over who was playing games...and you'll get a call during a band rehearsal...when I wouldn't lie. So I made sure significantly upset a pain of a customer because he got the answer...."sorry, I sold it this morning", the response of "oh my god...my step daughter and wife are going to be very upset" Best day ever. He thought pulling his chain would work in his favour. I felt sorry for the family, but it was excellent to ruin him for being a pain...
