Just to clarify: Keith Moon supposedly said that the band would “go down like a lead balloon.” Hence, Led Zeppelin.
@itslikethesamebutdifferent80203 жыл бұрын
And to clarify further: Keith was actually referring to the band that he himself was going to form with Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck on guitars, John Paul Jones on bass and Nicky Hopkins on vocals. I’d have loved to have heard them on stage and on record. Keith moon’s all animalistic approach to the drums would’ve matched Page’s all over the place, sloppy sort of guitar playing perfectly. Not to mention that Jonesy would’ve kept the steady beat on this one with the bass and between him on keyboards and Beck on guitar, would’ve made an amazing combo. Certainly would’ve been one of the greatest bands of all time,

Rhett Shull went down to the Songbirds Foundation Museum in Chattanooga, TN and they had 2 or 3 of the Gibson Flying Vs that were made with Korina wood, which were discontinued after they found out the wood dust was a carcinogen and the guys that made them were getting cancer. They only made something like 40(?). They're valued (if I remember right) at something like $1.25M each.
@timcobb17523 жыл бұрын
No, that's not the reason they discontinued them. They stopped making them because they didn't sell well initially. They were about 10 years ahead of their time with the explorers, vs and modernas. As a matter of fact, I have a late 9os korina epiphone explorer..... Same wood
@TribalGuitars3 жыл бұрын
@@timcobb1752 It's what their guide said. One site says: Terminalia superba Korina / Afara / Limba Toxic (wood, dust) / dermatitis, respiratory problems, sepsis.

@@TribalGuitars They are also about to release a bunch of reissue korina explorers and vs... made to the original 50s specs copied from an original guitar scan......

That's why I can't play Korina guitars. It's too dangerous when I shred.
@brain213 жыл бұрын
All of those Vs were korina, not just 40 of them. They ran them for about a year and stopped because they didn't sell, and the reintroduced them in 67 withthe bigger pickguard, and made of mahogany. Those 58 korina Vs are not worth 1.2million. The estimates given here are about right.

You’re back! I missed my morning dose of Baxter and Jonathan! I wasn’t thinking of the one-of-one rare models when I was trying to come up with some. Aren’t some of the original Jems considered sought-after/valuable? I don’t know much about 80s/shredder guitars, but aren’t the original Jacksons built when it was owned by Charvel sought after, too? For people into the shredder guitars? You had a lot of late 50s on your list, but the 80s were like… 40 years ago. I remember you discussing in an earlier video about how the 70s are now vintage and the 80s are getting there.
@davidarich23 жыл бұрын
@ItsVictoriaG You are correct about some of the early Jacksons/Charvels and the early Ibanez Jem/RG-550 (1987-1990) being " rare" and sought after. I will be one to admit I am a pointy shred guitar fanboy, but I don't think those guitars come with the same panache as the 1950-64 guitars do, and might not really belong on the list. To me, guitars are like vintage muscle cars and hot rods, and as far as the buying/selling market goes they're super similar in what is considered rare vs getting hard to find in good condition. Lots of people in the car community want a 57 chevy nomad which is really rare, instead of a 1987 Chevy Camaro Z28 (which are now getting hard to find and are sought after). The 80s guitars were built in much higher numbers and using more modern building techniques and technologies. For the vintage purists out there, like it or not, Some of the 80s and 90s and even some 2000's guitars are "vintage" (Tom Delonge Strat) and to the right buyer worth as much as theyll pay for it. Just like a 59 LP standard...

the 1st V i ever played was a '59. they look so very cool but, it was a crash course in yoga trying to find a way to play it... so, stand up and use the strap. it was an incredible playing guitar. there was one issue. this was 1983 and the guy who owned it had a Kahler trem installed >.< 1st, im not one for locking trems (never have liked them) and then the horror of carving into a '59 Gibson V....

I think, when discussing lists of this sort, that you must emphasize the distinction between "Rare" and "Unique". A single, one-off prototype guitar is not "Rare"', in my opinion. It is absolutely "Unique". Rare items (plural) imply scarcity, to be sure but also tend to be available to those with the patience, money and connections to track them down. Like Joe Bonamassa, and not me.

I left out the money part of the sentence---on tour, like his current one, where he was in Winston Salem on the 21st, I think he travels with his Burst on tour and plays it in the appropriate places, i.e., songs for which the recording was made with Paul playing that guitar in the recording, like "The End", where Paul trades licks in a three guitar massive crescendo-- now Paul's traditional finale.. (Can you imagine carrying that thing around) ...I do think that Paul's Left handed Burst MAY be a 60 and not a 59, but that still makes it a Burst, which were 58, 59, 60
