His income went down a lot, but the court doesn't care. He gets by living in an average house while she lives in the plush, large house he already paid for. Even worse, she's had a live-in boyfriend for years in the house her husband paid for, but she refuses to get married a second time because then she'll lose the free money she's getting from her ex-husband. She hasn't worked a job in over 30 years and her kids have been adults for nearly 20 years. She's been unofficially retired since the 1990s while her ex will probably continue working well into his 70s to support her.

Here’s another reason: the dad is more likely to work than the mom. When a married couple has a kid, either one will stay home or they will hire a nanny. If one stays home it’s usually the mom. Mom’s are much closer to children than dad’s. They go through pregnancy. Mom’s are much more likely to stay home with their kids than the dad’s.

In my STEM class there was only one girl. That was it. Even the teacher was a boy, and the class was quite large. STEM is the field that brings in huge amounts of money, after all, as well as many many other factors. Since women generally are the stay at home parent, why would they be payed more on average? If they work less why would they get paid the same or more? You can't use an average of all women you can find or all men you can find who work... It's not fair, and highly inaccurate.

Half the women complaining that they don’t get paid as much as men are in entry level positions; no one is stopping you from going after higher education or a better job. The people constantly talking about the patriarchy don’t realize that they are making themselves look weaker by only complaining and not actually doing anything to change what they don’t like about society. You want to be paid more? Go somewhere else. Ask for a raise. Pursue higher education. If you spent half as much time doing ANYTHING productive than you spend inventing non issues to be upset over you’d be seeing the results (more women in higher paying positions) you are asking for in no time. You lost, but you don’t want to admit it so you just say “b-b-but you can find r-reasons on all s-sides and you can c-choose which ones make sense or not!” That isn’t how arguments work, you either stalemate them if nobody seems right or wrong and say “let’s agree to disagree” or you lose (like right now) or you win and beat the opponent down by ripping and tearing their argument/s apart (which is what we did to you). Be humble and say that you lost this argument, it’s not like you lose anything real. Oh, and they literally say that the wage gap isn’t real at the start, but they say that it is real for the rest of the video? I’m kinda confused now. People who are saying that women get paid less during pregnancy, consider the fact that most pregnancies are supported by a male significant other who is working to pay for it anyway to support the child and it's mother. The argument relies on the notion that every pregnant woman is single, which is simply not true. Another unrelated thing, the number of links you cite for your evidence is incredible. I once saw a feminist article that relied solely on like three personal anecdotal stories and made a tremendous generalization about the world at large from that. Very good surface facts. I once had a female employee who, yes worked less hours and took more time off because she took care of her 2 children. She also mentioned that she cannot work overtime because he husband gets mad when she comes late. At the same time I had several men colleagues who just stood up at 6 pm and left while I and other female colleagues carried on working. Also I totally agree that employers won't pay you sky-high salary if you ask for smaller one. And also we should look at the way we raise our sons and daughters. Girls often are told to be modest and suggest they choose "easier" occupations while boy encouraged to take risks. I see some parallels with future behaviors.
@run4walk3 жыл бұрын
When are girls told to choose "easier" occupations? When are boys taught to take risks? I'm a boy currently in university studying a course that leads to a very stressful job (decently paying, but high stress and huge suicide and burn-out rates attached to it) that is absolutely dominated by women. I'm an extreme minority on my course and once I graduate I'll be an extreme minority in the workforce. In the most egalitarian societies on earth, where there is the least amount of social programming and girls aren't told to do different jobs than men the pay gap gets *bigger* because women and men want to do different jobs. They aren't being taught anything.
@noangel20023 жыл бұрын
@@run4walk First, most societies are not egalitarian at all, some are trying to fix it, some are just pretending. Second, looks like that there is an age difference between us around 15 to 20 years and a lot of things have changed and improved during these years. I was told many times to choose something easier when I was little, so were my friends. I comment based on my experience and in my country it's ok for man to pressure wife to quit job or not to take extra hours at work so she could take care of the kids and home. And thirdly, there are so many first word countries without affordable and accessible childcare (Japan, UK, US etc), so if woman decides to have a child, she needs to make carrier sacrifices and most often it is not what you call "wanting a different job".
@run4walk3 жыл бұрын
@@noangel2002 No, most societies aren't egalitarian, but the ones that *are* still have women earning less than men. In fact, the gap is larger there. The reason for this is that when you stop telling women to do certain jobs, they still tend to pick certain jobs that pay less. Women are far more likely to go into health care and men are far more likely to be business me or engineers and make big figures. I really don't understand the "do something easier" bit. Women have out-performed men in school for about as long as women have been allowed in schools. Most women that have children are not single mothers and they are still far more likely to stay at home with the kids - either quitting altogether or returning part-time. There is a man in the picture as well. Why is it that the man keeps his job and tries to get that promotion while the mother works less to look after the kids more. And again you may argue "that's what they get encouraged to do" and you'd be right in most countries. Stay at home dads are mocked and ridiculed. But if you go back to those egalitarian societies, like in Northern europe, where so much effort has been made to equalise workforces and to push men into the homes to look after their kids it's *still* the men sitting working 10 hours a day and the women at home with the kids for most of that time. And that's because of the choices that men and women make. A lot of the choices we make are driven by our biology. Men are naturally more competitive, so they are less likely to want to give up job competition. They also aren't as family oriented, whereas women are. They are very family oriented and naturally caring, especially about their own kids. Biology is the reason why we have society the way it is. Biology was around way before society and that's what human ancestors were doing long before there were any human rights movements. Men and women were taught these roles because those are the roles that their biology makes them want and makes them good at. That's why when you stop teaching gender roles to men and women they keep their gender roles. There is a larger force at work, and you're not going to suppress it. You will not suppress the human nature.
@noangel20023 жыл бұрын
@@run4walk you are quite optimistic about our world. Completely egalitarian society is a utopia. It does not exist, there is always a bias, because we are imperfect humans. Nature vs Nurture an interesting argument but it cannot be scientifically checked because the changes in gender roles have started not so long ago even in Nordic countries to draw any conclusions from it. I don't know why I am writing this because what comments in internet taught me is that it's impossible to change anybody's mind 🤐
@run4walk3 жыл бұрын
@@noangel2002 It's not optimism, it's realism. No, no society is entirely egalitarian, but when the most egalitarian have the largest divide in the pay gap, because men and women still make certain life choices based on biology. If women only picked certain jobs because they were told to, wouldn't you expect them to be in these jobs less if they were told to choose them less? Because that's exactly the opposite of what's happening. You're most certainly not going to change my mind with anecdotes and unsubstantiated opinions. You'll need to provide some sort of evidence

Great video. Very informative. Also on AVEREGE women are more agreeable than men and disagreeability enhances the chances of being succesful at work because to be a boss you need to be disagreeable. Also, on AVEREGE, once women have children they start working less hours but once men have children they start working more hours. Women can have children and not go to work for some months while men still go to work when they have children so men have less chances of not working for some months. Ironically, some feminists saying that fathers are not neccesary could be one of the causes for companies only giving free time to mothers once they have a child but not to fathers. 10. Men are paid less pensions during their lives as they die younger, even if women have worked less and payed less taxes. . This reason is not directly related to the pay but is closely related to earnings anyway. Men die younger and therefore get less pension during their life than women. Did not actually fact check this thing but would be logical. "Life expectancy (in USA) for females is 81.2 years; for males, it's 76.4 years. That difference of 4.8 years is the same as in 2011." = women enjoy pensions much longer than men.

This would appear logical but in reality, isn't. Life expectancy is calculated with a lot of variables. It's an average. The reason life expectancy is rising is because we have far, far fewer stillbirths than in previous times. Men die younger ON AVERAGE precisely because they are more likely to die in the workplace. Once they start to claim a pension, the difference (in life expectancy) narrows.

As a middle aged bald man, I can confirm, even the people that I’m meeting for the first time have no issues with pointing out and stating it to me outright that I’m bald, as if it’s news to me. Personally, I don’t even notice that I’m bald until I look in the mirror, it has no functional impact on my quality of everyday life. I mean, if that’s the way we’re going to roll as a society, then following that logic anyone should be able to call other people fat, ugly, and other unpleasant words to their face while maintaining their self assured sense of moral superiority and perceived self importance. When women take time off work - either as standard maternity leave or to dedicate their time to raising children - they can sometimes, as individuals, become obsolete in the workplace. Their colleagues might have successfully absorbed the workload in the woman's absence, proving to the boss that the office/department can operate with one less salaried employee. Changes to working practices, software or legislation can diminish the value of the skills held by the person no longer participating in the day-to-day activities of the business, as can a changing customer portfolio and the strong relationships that colleagues have formed with customers while that woman has been away. So the careers of women can lose momentum, encouraging them to take sideways or backward steps, or to prioritise things like favourable working hours over pay and future prospects.

Pregnancy is a choice. A woman accepts all reprocutions wen having a child. This includes the statement offered. Think on that. It is a choice guided variable, and thus not a proper counter-argument to the bs wage gap
@rocheyb18 жыл бұрын
There is a Gender Wage Gap. The bullshit part is the claim that it is due to some form of systemic sexism. It is actually due to many different benign reasons, including those I have outlined in my comment above. I'm not sure about "A woman accepts all repercussions when having a child" - you're assuming that they have a clear understanding of exactly what those repercussions will be before they decide to have the baby. But nevertheless, I think we are on the same side of this one: The Gender Wage Gap, as represented by the Feminist Lobby, is bullshit - and if they want to be taken seriously, they need to begin conducting themselves with greater intellectual honesty.
@Tabby4128 жыл бұрын
That it true, sadly, there are tons of people that get pregnant but dont accept or understand all reprocutions. They should, but saying something should happen doesnt always mean it does. but it is true, the feminist wage gap is utter bs. Can you go into further detail about the wage gap not using feminist ideals, please?
@rocheyb18 жыл бұрын
The Gender Wage Gap exists, insofar as men - as a group or taken as an average - earn more money than women. The Feminist Lobby try to make us believe that it's because men get paid more than women for doing the exact same job. But Equal Pay legislation exists in the US, Canada, Australia and within the individual countries of the EU (including the UK) so that practice is illegal. If feminists believe that men are being paid more for doing the same job, where are all the lawsuits? And why don't companies only employ women, if they can get away with paying them less? The reality is that women are far more likely than men to take lower paid work. Nursing and the other caring professions, for example, are not highly paid, and many women opt for part-time work due to the greater flexibility that it allows while also raising children. In those households where the man earns enough to provide for the whole family, there is less need for the woman to go out to work; she might take a part-time job to supplement the household income but they can afford to go without her wages, if necessary. And, as I explained in a previous comment, some women suspend their careers to have children, with the intention of going back to their jobs in due course, only to find that the working environment has changed in their absence, causing them to reconsider their plans. Men, meanwhile, don't tend to take voluntary breaks from employment and are therefore more likely to be working full-time, and to tend towards highly skilled and higher paid professions. Some feminists would claim that all the above is, in itself, evidence of sexism and I think the original Feminist Movement had a point. But to identify an imbalance in the number of men and women in any given profession as evidence of sexism, simply based on the raw numbers, is a logical fallacy; specifically, it's a confusion of Equality of Outcome with Equality of Opportunity. Equal Opportunities and Equal Pay legislation has been in force in all of the major economies in the West for a generation now, so - at least in terms of the Law - I think the sexism charge is invalid, here and now in 2016. Some individuals still hold or promote archaic attitudes to the notion of gender equality, but in doing so they operate contrary to the Law and can be sanctioned accordingly. Recently, girls have begun to outnumber boys in terms of university places - certainly in the US and I believe in the UK, too - and there is evidence to suggest that women below the age of 30 in full-time employment are earning more than their male counterparts, so there is change afoot. Whether it's for the better or worse is a different discussion.

Men on average also deliver much higher on productivity levels at work. This is in nearly every job I can think of, even female dominated jobs such as primary teaching where women teachers have caused chaos, being unable to teach or discipline children. However in less developed countries like Kenya, brazil etc it is a genuine thing because equality isnt preached as much. It all depend on where you look and what statistics you use. So in more developed countries yea sure alot of it probably is however in those that are less economically stable it is still a large issue.

Though the facts about men being paid more than women are twisted to make this point, the fact not mentioned here is that women should be paid less because they work less. Women spend more than 23% of their time at work complaining and gossiping. Most women start the day updating each other on their personal life, relationships, new makeup and hair styles, etc... Talk, talk, talk is what the do the most. Simply stated, if women want to be paid the same, the best thing for them to do is SHUT UP and do the job.

On the "Cultural Privileges of Women" part of the video, you should have also added "women are immune to conscription."

If I am looking to hire for my company and i have two applicants with identical resumes apply, a 32 year old married guy with no kids and a 32 year old married woman with no kids then I will take the man every time. If I hire the man, he will be committed and work even harder when his wife likely has babies. But if I hire the woman then I invest thousands of dollars training her up only for her to fall pregnant and take time off and by law I have to hold her job for her and find a temp to do a substandard job covering her and she may never even come back, she only has to let me know at the end of her maternity leave which I have to pay for. No matter how much I would like to support her, my responsibility is to my shareholders and I will hire the male.

Don't worry. Long before you go out of business due to having to "overspend" on maternity leave, you'll go out of business after being successfully prosecuted for sexual discrimination.

One more reason men make more money is they are willing to take jobs that are away from home as is rotations i and out. I have worked in construction all my life with very few women in the industry because they are are not willing to put in the hours or be away from home. I have noticed they like the big money their partners bring home but do not do well with the separation even when they are at home with all their friends. I might add the divorce rate is through the roof in this industry (wife's leaving their husband) also suicide amoung men in this industry is way above nations averages

My husband makes more than me an hour, and I don't believe in the gender wage gap. He makes more than me an hour because our job pays by years of experience. He has more years under his belt than I do. We both work the same job and the same amount of hours. The logic of this is pretty simple.

Definitely by experience but Im guessing he also does more work in the hour range, and I sure hes taken less vacations and done some occasional overtime. But women like you who know when to pick logic over feeling give me hope for society

The wage gap does not exist but the spending gap does. Women have more money than men! How do we know? The owners of retail stores say so. Look at your local mall. Look at the number of stores and floor space dedicated to women - jewelry stores, hair salons, women's shoe shops, women's cloth boutiques, nail salons, lingerie stores, makeup stores etc. Go to a Target or general store - at least twice the floor space dedicated to women's items than to men's. Not sure if a store is for women or men - look at the other customers around you - they will be mostly women! Why is this? Don't the owners of retail stores know that men out earn women? They know it is BS - they know which gender has the most to spend - and it isn't men! How is this economic miracle achieved? Earn less but have more to spend? Women spend the money that men earn. Who is more oppressed? The person who works so that someone else can spend or the person who spends money someone else had to earn?

Another reason women get paid less is because of the fact that when they get pregnant, they have the ability to have a couple of months paid maternity leave while when men become father's, they are entitled to just 2 weeks paid paternity leave.
@MartinLeong254 жыл бұрын
wait thats actually more women get more money in thier leaves as what you said :O yet they still want more :/
@yourfutureself33924 жыл бұрын
Ironically, that may be PARTIALLY caused by feminism saying that fathers are unneccesary. Men taking less time off gives them more experience and more chances to get hired.

The point about sick time is really poignant when you consider the fact that men get sick more often than women due to having weaker immune systems on average. I can't count the number of times I've woken up on a workday with my throat on fire and my airways almost completely closed off, and yet went to work anyway despite every fiber of my being compelling me to call in.

Thought experiment for you. You're a hiring manager of a large corporation. Your business depends upon making and maintaining long-term business relationships with clients. You have two prospective candidates, both fresh from college, a man and a woman, equally qualified. You are going to spend 20,000 dollars training this new hire. Who do you hire? Before you answer, consider the following questions. Which one of them is more likely to quit their job to start a family? Even if they don't quit to start a family, which one of them is more likely to miss work to stay home with a sick child? Which one of them is more likely to need to leave early/come in late due to child related functions? Which one of them is going to require paid time off when a child is born? When you answer those questions, then tell me who you hire.

+Patrick J. Colliano i would choose the person i prefer more, ignoring statistics a sec as statistics aren't everything, however if i met neither i would look at some background too. If the man is young and inexperienced, and the women is a former business owner who is very dedicated, it may be better. There are way too many factors but going off the info you gave i would go for the man. It's just logical.
