A Korean told me that there’s is a saying they have. When you study English, you begin laughing at first then you start to cry as you progress. When you study German, you first cry, then you laugh. German builds on itself more so than English or even Spanish. Word compounding can be quite helpful.

I originally wanted to learn it as a small child because I wanted to know what all of the adults were talking about, especially at Christmas time, when they were trying to keep things from the children. Eventually, I wanted to learn it because I have a strong sense of my German Heritage. Eventually, things came full circle because I now use German to keep things from my kids. LOL

An interesting fact I saw online is that German is the most common 2nd language in North Dakota, and it is the 3rd most spoken language (after English and Spanish) in many states in the American Midwest. For me personally, I always meet Germans travelers, so I would love to at least be able to great them.

Cute video. As a speaker of German, teacher, tutor, I think you did a great presentation. Germany was at one time the technological-scientific capital of the world, example research on the use of portland cement. All languages are hard to learn for non-speakers but for me French is very challenging and Greek even more so. Where one lives determines which language one might need most. Here in the American Southwest, Spanish is popular as it it used a lot. One can understand Yiddish better knowing German. In your 4 minute video, you put in eine menge information. Thanks. Jay

😊 I had a German "Oma" (not my actual grandmother) come to live with us briefly when I was in grade 9. And I started to pick it up nicely from her. But living in Pierre Trudeau's multicultural Canada, I was forced to take French just as I was learning German at home and I just got so confused I sort of gave up. Now my son and I are learning German together. It's about trying to finish something I started.

i started learning german because i found out i was german descent just before starting high school. it was also somewhat meant to trick me to keep me from my first choice, but that'll come later since i love it and want to get better understanding it, and my hunch was proven correct in how it felt like german might be an important language to learn. im glad you also said spanish and mandarin because those are the other two i've wanted to focus on! trying really hard to not get ahead of myself so i dont abandon my progress too soon before it's internalized longterm.

Ausserdem grenzt der deutsche Sprachraum am italienischen Sprachraum. (Italienisch ist meine Muttersprache) #4. I started with German about a year ago, but I switched to learning Russian because there are so many German English speakers. Like 70% of all German's know conversational English and only like 7% of Russians so I decided it would be easier for me to conversation with a Russian in Russian than expecting them to know English. Chances are that any Germans I meet are going to know English way better than I would know German.

Nice video! Jetzt lerne ich Deutsch und es gefällt mir sehr gut! I would recommend working on your pronunciation. I am American so I am currently working on improving this myself. You say "foonf" at the end for "fünf". The ü sound is quite different. It takes a while to get the hang of it. It is more like the "ewwww" sound we English speakers make when we are disgusted at something. The ü sound was one of the more difficult for me to start speaking properly, along with the soft "ch" sound. You say "Warum nickt" where it should be "warm nicht". Even saying "Warum nisssht" will already get you closer to sounding more like a native German speaker :-)

I took up German a few days ago. I like to do crazy things lol and I started to learn it because I love learning languages and love finding how the language works. I was going to take up German last year but I always found obstacles or excuses to not approach it because some people might say it's not a useful language cuz everyone in Germany speaks English. Nevertheless, we have to stick to what we love.

I am quarter German (and very proud to be), sadly I don't speak German, I wish my dad teach it to me bilingually like he is but oh well. Anyway, I've been doing German at school for about a year and a half, just over ish and I love it. My teacher isn't the best ever and the lessons are a little boring but I overall love the language itself. My dad also helps me and teaches me new phrases. We speak to each other in a mainly English German mix. I use lots of German in my everyday speech too. People find it confusing but meh, I don't care. With my knowledge of the wonderful language that is German, it's helped me to learn both Swedish and Dutch. I take my Swedish pretty darn seriously as well as German. Dutch is just for fun. I'm a bit of a language nerd, it runs in my family. German can be confusing at some points but it's mainly pretty straight forward (to me, idk if my quarter German-ness helps). So go out and learn German!

I learned English because is the worldwide spoken language, not because I really wanted to learn it, but as a "duty". Then, as the last year was almost over and I'd aready had learned English (not on a fluent level), I started to wondering: "which foreign language is MY foreign language???" Well, everyone has their own favourite, loved foreign language but me. E.g. my girfriend loves French. Since French is similar to my native language - which is Portuguese - I gave it a shot. I even bought a grammar book and all. But after 2 weeks of French I gave it up. -I'm done with Romance languages. Maybe in the future, I thought. Then I found german and I just fell in love with it. I was reading Nietzsche in my native language and I started to wondering how cool would it be to read Nietzsche in the original form. Well, I can barely understand what the madmen said even in Portuguese but anyway, that helped me to choose my foreign language. The virus came. The lockdown came. So, perfect setting to learn German! And that's what I did. I'm learning German since the first weeks of lockdown. Such philosophical language..the way the words are put on the setences...Well, I'm sure of my choice; I'm learning German from now on. I hope that in the future I read back to this comment and I see how much I've learned and feel proud of myself and my choice!

Reason 10: German is a beautiful language. It's oftentime mocked for allegedly sounding harsh or aggressive and yes, there certainly are such aspects to it. But german can also flow like a glittering stream of sound, or dance wildly like wildwater down a mountainside. Reason 11: While learning to speak grammatically correct german is quite difficult, you can communicate in german even if your grammar is all over the place. You may sound awkward as fuck, but you can be understood.

German is probably third on my list of languages I want to learn. I went through 4 years of German at high school but language education in English schools is pretty terrible so I don't remember much. Though weirdly if I get stuck trying to remember a word in Gàidhlig (my current target language) my brain will sometimes just drop in the word in German if I know it. But yeah, it feels like unfinished business so going back and learning it properly is something I hope to do. Aaaand now I have to re-watch The Edukators.

I chose to study german as a second foreign language (after english, I'm french) instead of spanish because I wanted to be in the same class of my friend... Honestly, best choice I've ever made. People who are learning german are more rare, it can be very helpful to find a job, german people are so cool and lovely. Their culture is amazing, you can visit Berlin, this city is very interesting if you love history... I really love germany and I'd like to go to german's Christmas markets.

yeah i just am german so i got no problems with it but i find it kinda sweet how confusing it is to other people, because i think that some other languages are a hell lot more difficult then german.

I'm German and I definitely notice that I understand quite a few words of Scandinavian languages or dutch. I guess if I wasn't German I would never consider learning it, but then again I'm not a "typical" German, I don't like Beer or sports or the local cuisine or Christmas markets etc. Btw your accent sound really cute
