Honestly I chose French because I wanted to prove to myself that I could learn a new language this year and it seemed like a good choice for an English speaker. But I'm falling more and more in love with the beauty of the language every day. How melodic and musical it is. French TV and music. The beautiful phrasing

Something unfortunate and worth mentioning is that in France itself, French is often imposed at the expense of other minority languages like Occitan, Basque, Breton, etc. The French government is generally very intolerant of allowing other languages besides French in official domains, even when those languages are endemic to the country itself alongside French.

Thanks for bringing this up. Exactly why I give a nod in the video to many other languages (including Occitan, Basque, Breton and Catalan) spoken in places alongside French! :) Personally, I know that learning languages like French and Spanish has sparked an interest in learning more about other languages that are used in places where they're spoken. If I can help to spark that inspiration for others too then that's great.

Not sure why I clicked on this video considering the ridiculous number of languages I already have on my "to-study" list but now all I can think about is how to incorporate French into my schedule somehow 😂😭😭 Hadn't really been interested in French up until now but it's been inching it's way into my list, and just hearing you speak French in the video made me realise that... yeah maybe I do think French sounds super nice! Ahhh I hope you have a video on your channel about how to decide which languages to focus on because I'm going to be really needing that!!

Great video. The point about the "accent circomflexe (^)" showing that there was an "s" at the position of the letter is something I really didn't know. Eventhough I am a native English speaker. haha
