Although self-help books are not my thing, I watched Maria speak because of her 'strange lucidity'. Enchanting expression, alluring precision, an apt quotation selection, and captivating sincerity.

(sorry for the bad english) ngl I'm very prejudiced when it comes to self-help books, because there are a lot of people who talk and try to preach things that even they don't follow. But I'll think about giving the ones you recommended a try. Hugs from Brazil!

Wow. You come at us with another angle and connect 100 percent. My bookshelf is full of these kinds of books. The way you speak of them tells me you absorbed them much better than I have. Your casual command of their essence was very impressive and helpful. I have Quiet on my shelf but haven’t read it. Yet. You’ve prompted me. It’s now ripe to be plucked off the shelf. Some say the unread books in our shelves are there like fruit in an orchard, when it’s ripe we shall pluck it down and be nourished. I will definitely be getting the books on empathy and self-esteem. I read a daily stoic book every day. For almost 5 years now. It does get my head in a good place each morning. Pleasantly surprised at the many different directions you’ve taken your videos. All seem to coalesce in your pilgrimage to find and share beauty and truth and flourishing in books and living. Bravo, once again.

These self help books don´t seem so bad. I do have a soft spot for the Stoics, but the self help literature and hype around the Stoics also highlights why I dislike self help in the first place. Most of the time these books are merely selling some watered down and repackaged info/wisdom in the name of self improvement/grind mindset (bonus points if they claim they have it all figured out)... Then again, my favorite philosophy book could be labeled as self help as well.

Great selection of titles, Maria. I love your honest review and insights on those books. I read about 4 of them so I'll check out the rest. Cheers! 😍🤓🥰

Thanks Maria. Apart from 'The Body Keeps the Score', the books in my list can't be classified as self-help books in the strict sense: they fall into the category of popular psychiatry/psychotherapy. However, they have been very helpful to my self: Gottlieb, Lori - Maybe You Should Talk to Someone Laing, R. D. - The Divided Self Lindner, Robert - The Fifty-Minute Hour van der Kolk, Bessel - The Body Keeps the Score Plus all of Irvin Yalom's books.

@@strange.lucidity the four Is one of my suggestions to others for their first dive into self reflection.. It's a starter before I suggest anything heavier.... Definitely not the be al,l end all. So many books so little time...
