Interesting that Plato disliked literature because it doesn’t tell the truth but preferred it to display people as they should be ideally, not as they TRULY are - ?

What an adventure. The music is very enjoyable (appreciate the screenshot added in the video). It is such a great (appreciated) burden to take all these courses and have the time to include such a stylized vlog. This sounds like this is going to be a real challenge. I hope you keep in mind: 1. What are you doing this for? 2. Who do you hope to become when you're finished?

This sounds very on par with my study abroad experiences, the first couple of weeks can be SO exhausting. But it's like a baptism by fire, it's surprising how fast you then adapt to the new environment. All of a sudden you will be wondering where your crazy new language skills came from. So take care of yourself and relax when you need to, soon you'll be running around Paris like a local!

going abroad and leaving behind familiarity to study is so exciting and daunting! i studied abroad in the uk and even though there wasn’t a language barrier, it was wild how much harder everything is when you are truly on your own in another country and navigating an unfamiliar academic bureaucracy. all that to say, there is no one right way to study abroad :) thanks for sharing your experience from your first week!

Disappointment is one of Proust's great themes, so you are preparing yourself for his views on that. But I hope things get better for you soon. Is 'The Myth of Sisyphus' a set text, or are you just reading that on your own - another set of comments on the disappointments of life.
@strange.lucidity10 сағат бұрын
Thank you so much. I got the book because I wanted to get into Camus and heard that it's a great start to understand his philosophy. But now we're actually talking about Camus in one of my courses as well, so it's kinda perfect :-)

So many new challenges at the same time--I'd be overwhelmed as well. Some thoughts tho -- do they videotape their courses and make them available to students? If not, can you videotape or just audio tape? Do they have study groups you can go to? If not, maybe ask around and start your own? These suggestions come from my heart and hope they don't add more stress. Big hugs sent your way. You got this. 🥰🍀🎈

I have always been on the literary side academically speaking. However I chose to pursue physics at university, for two years. I stopped eventually. I thought I would just take a gap year and figure out the rest as I go along. However this summer, I started a free online course from Harvard university on World Literature. Just to do something with my days. I loved it so much. I got curious and looked for more insights on the subject on KZbin. I stumbled upon your channel! I am glad I did. It was at that moment I fully realised I had to continue education and go back to square one and study English literature. In fact I don’t think I have ever made a decision with such certainty in my life. I thought it would be fun to share how little, random events brought me to your channel. Enjoy your studies in Paris! Watching from the South, with love 🇫🇷🥖

Your video reminds me that a normal, interesting and positive life is possible. I really need this reminder right now so I don't go crazy. Yesterday, the Russian army again bombed civilians in our place: three drones were purposefully sent to a hospital, and another to a residential building. As a result, 9 civilians died and 21 were injured. I don't know if I will live, so I hasten to thank you for this great video! As you can see, your video brings me some peace. I think that you should head off to Shakespeare & Co bookshop and you'll meet someone who might help you. I once sat in a Sorbonne lecture on biology. I found the intensity fascinating. The philosophy bookshop is great. Proust is best studied in a cafe and the avenue of study determined by the interactions with moments of being, a glass of wine, and a hearty reading of John Ruskin :-)

Hey Marcel Proust fan girl🧡I can't say I've drunken 🍷while studying, but kudos to you! I'll stick to my smoothies thank you 😆 And yes the language barrier, nothing can really prepare you for that. You're now finding yourself on the deep end, just have to manage to stay afloat while soaking it all in ☑That's why some people decide to participate in cultural immersion programs before taking up their degrees. You seem to be handling the experience quite well. The course on artificial intelligence and writing sounds super interesting and up to date.Keep it up👍

Robert Louis Stevenson's _The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde_ has ascended to a place of particular veneration in my personal literary pantheon, not merely due to its deft narrative construction, but owing to the labyrinthine intricacies with which it dissects the protean dualities embedded in the human psyche. The juxtaposition of the decorous, ostensibly benevolent Dr. Jekyll and his nefarious doppelgänger, Mr. Hyde, is not simply a portrayal of moral bifurcation; rather, it is an allegorical treatise on the ontological fragmentation and the inexorable disintegration of the human subject under the weight of its own repressed, subterranean instincts. The novella's brevity belies the depth of its philosophical inquiry, and therein lies its genius: Stevenson encapsulates the precarious equilibrium between societal veneer and primal chaos in a narrative that oscillates between gothic horror and existential musing, thus rendering it an object of inexhaustible fascination for those who, like myself, find joy in the tortuous corridors of human nature’s latent complexities. Each revisitation reveals new strata of meaning, drawing me inexorably into its vertiginous depths of moral ambivalence and psychological dissonance.
