9 Small Class C RV's That You Might Like Better Than a B Plus or B.

At the 2024 Florida RV Supershow we did walkthrough tours and reviews of 9 Class C RVs. We look at some of the smallest Class C's from Winnebago, Thor, Forest River and Tiffin . Some of the units we see could be classified as B Plus RVs, but we're sticking to the definition we've heard the most: If it has a bed over the driver, it's a class C. Of course, there are exceptions to every rule.
We see super-sized van conversions with surprisingly comfortable floorplans, and some larger units which might be more suitable for full-time Rvers. As always, we make some comparisons to our Van, a 2021 American Coach Patriot MD2, and give some constructive criticism as well.
In a previous video, we traveled to one of the largest RV shows in the United States, the 2024 Florida RV Supershow in Tampa Florida , and we searched through the over 1500 recreational vehicles on display to find the right RV for us. Over the course of several days, we see Truck Campers, Travel Trailers, Micro Trailers, 5th Wheel Gooseneck Trailers, Expedition Vehicles, large and small Class A units, and Class B plus (B+), Class C, and Class B coaches as well. That experience was an invaluable asset to assist us in our RV search.
We even meet up with our inspiration, Traveling Robert. He is the RV vlogger who got us through the COVID lock downs. We also come across Matt from Matt's RV Reviews and we get him to do his signature Matt Jump on camera. Early in the show, we crash the Meet Up with the vloggers from Tall Man's RV Reviews.
We hope our experience will provide helpful guidance to those who are looking to purchase a Class B RV, or who may be trying to decide which RV to purchase for their travels.

Our last motor home had the same rubber/vinyl shower curtain/door rather than the three glass panel door. And like you, I was apprehensive. After a few trips I was sold. Liked it better than glass. No water spots or streaking. Doesn't have to be secured for travel and no rattles or noise with road roughness. And that upper radius gives you just a few more inches at your shoulders for washing and shampooing clearance. You'll like it.

All of these are Class Cs legally. Class Cs are built on a cutaway chassis and that cab over bunk isn’t a determining factor. Manufacturers can build them or not and it makes no difference. The “Class B+” gang is also built on a cutaway chassis BUT on a van chassis, mostly Mercedes Benz Sprinter and Ford Transit. So the common denominator for Class Cs is that they’re all built on a cutaway chassis.

@@halffasttravelers2702 I imagine you did, lol. I use B for Built in the body of a van. C has a truck chassis at the front and a frame to the rear, bed above or not doesn't matter but some call these a C+. A Class A is built on its own frame, nothing else matters since some are short and have no slides.

On all the RVs, I wondered if the Murphy bed could be pulled down with the slide in AND if the bathroom & frig were accessible with the slide in. Looks like the prices varied between $150K and $250K. Tiffin is a company with integrity.

Judging by the amount of space there is at the foot of the bed when deployed, I would think the slide would need to be at least partially out. You have piqued our curiosity, and we will have to try this at the next available opportunity. Thanks for the info.

The Forest River has a window in the Murphy bed slide. It's fully seen and not blocked by the bed. Also a window in the rear wall add more light.

To bad you did not try the WB View 24T, those reclining chairs under the Murphy bed are new patented models that are just super excellent, also the tech is much better, water heater, large propane tank, you can drop the generator and get solar and much bigger Lithium battery, very up to date.

@@halffasttravelers2702 We just purchased our first rv, the Winnebago Navion 24J with the corner bed. I am 5ft 5in., 56 years old and got up in several of the rv's we looked at. The Winnebago was the most comfortable by far, but did not have as much head space as some of the Thor models. The Thor model bunks were very hard, I could not have slept on them. It is easier to get up than coming down but the Winnebago was easier than some others and I like that the ladder stays right there so you don't have to store the ladder in the back of the rv. I hope that helps a bit.

Whenever you review a class c on the sprinter chassis make sure you look at the cargo carrying capacity. I know with the Delano by the time you fill the water tank and put two average size adults in it there is basically no capacity for much else. BTW: anything on a cutaway chassis is a class c.

This was brought to our attention in the comments, and we are doing some additional research. It is very difficult to get an official "cargo capacity" number from a lot of these manufacturers. Buyer beware. Thanks for the info on the Delano.

Wow, that is a tough one. So many factors affect the MPG; weight, size, shape, chassis, drivetrain, etc. It doesn't seem like the dealers list that information for RVs like they do for new autos. Murphy bed would be a deal breaker for me. They tend to have thinner mattresses and a fold in the middle is annoying to sleep on.

You make a great point, we also really dislike when a mattress has that fold. The only thing we would add is that you may have the option of replacing the mattress with a thicker one or adding memory foam if the folding mechanism has the "play" to allow for that. Since the bedding does not need to be stored separately, there would be little or no impact to your available storage space. Thanks for the comment.

We are so glad you brought this up. Many people don’t consider the cargo capacity when shopping for their RV. Operating overweight vehicles can be hazardous. We are in the process of researching this topic for a future video. Thanks for the comment.

Did you end up buying that very last one, the all-electric ? It's the only one i would consider, but still not sure if the murphy bed and recliners will work with the slide-outs in. We don't want slide-outs at all, and old backs with bum knees are challenging enough without adding slide-outs to the equation. We love that there's no overhang top over the windshield, that we would have room to wash in the shower, and there's arm-room for using the toilet. Please also advise interior height, as a 6'4 clearance would be the minimum for ideal.

We are doing more research on the Wayfarer, especially regarding the cargo issue so we haven't yet pulled the trigger. We are also suffering some negative effects of the RV market downturn mainly when it comes to our trade-in value. We hope to cover these topics in an upcoming video. The specs sheet on the Wayfarer shows an interior height of 80 inches or 6.67 feet, and that seems to be standard in most of these small Class C boxes. None of there Rv got mini washer & dryer inside! The most of Class B+ or C in China got mini washer & dryer function which is very convenient for RV life!

Wow, we were not aware of that. We've seen videos where some folks were critical of RV washer/dryer combos because they could only handle small loads, and they felt they were constantly running whenever they were at the campgrounds. ⁠@@halffasttravelers2702The only Chinese camper that has a small washer in it that I know off, saw on utube somewhere, is the Deedle. Deedle has several floorplans, but I didn't catch the floor plan number of the one with a washer. They really put effort into max space in a compact RV, with great solar n battery usage. Imo, they beat any other european n definitely N.A. manufacturer in innovation, features and compactness. 🍻

LOL It really varies by manufacturer, but the good thing is that you can add memory foam or egg crate and still fold the bed out of the way. Good question.

While you are camping you need to access the dump valves etc and having them under the slide is a big no no.

That's a great question. The short answer is: It depends on the RV. It seems like absorbtion refrigerators are being phased out by the compressor fridges. Just the leveling issues alone may make this a good move for small RVs. It's sometimes hard to tell which refrigerator a unit has at first glance. Many times, even the sales staff aren't sure. Our advice would be to double-check with the dealer to ensure you're getting the one you want. We'll try to add this information to future walkthroughs. Thanks for the comment.

The only Class B's we've seen with a bed on top were those with the retractable "tent" on the roof. It's not really a bad option when traveling with multiple people. Thanks.

Instead of two sofas I wish they’d make that one at the Murphy bed some kind of dinette instead. I prefer theater seating to two sofas and one of them being an uncomfortable sofa. There has to be a way to create a folding dinette area against the Murphy Bed.

You might like the 2024 Unity MBL, and the Unity 2025 Unity FX. The MBL comes with two power recliners at the Murphy bed that convert to a dinette . The new FX now has that configuration as an option and retains the rear sofa lounge in the rear.

technical definitions are Class B is built on a van, Class C is built on a chassis. In reality Class B+ is anything on a chassis without a bed over the cab.

It is very close, but the video might be a little deceiving. I was intentionally scooting down quite a bit to keep my shoes off the bed. Bed length is definitely a concern for the taller folks though. Thanks for the comment.

You know how all squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares? It's the same with "B Plus" and "Class C". All so called B Plus RVs are Class C. The class is determined by the chassis and whether it's been modified or not. There are plenty of models in existence where the cabover bed is simply an option as opposed to having a TV mounted in the gap - choosing that option or not doesn't change the unti's classification. "Class B" in reality is just an industry buzzword to trick people into looking at Class C units when they're looking for a Class B, similar to "lite beer" being little more than a marketing ploy. Unless it's a van chassis, it's a Class C; most "B Plus" units are on a cutaway chassis.

We know just how you feel. When you're at the bottom of a steep hill, you want to know you can get to the top without bringing traffic to a standstill. Even though our Mercedes has only 180 horsepower, the 300 p/f of torque helps at slower speeds to keep us going in the right direction. This is just a generalization, but it seems that the Fords have an edge in horsepower and you may want to focus your attention there. We are also interested to see how the new Mercedes 4cyl diesel performs. Thanks for the comment.

Yes, we have had some concerns over the cargo capacity of the Tiffin, and that is one of the reasons why we have been adding the cargo capacity on specs in our latest videos. There is some good news for the Wayfarer though; the new models now have a payload/cargo capacity over 1000 pounds due to many things such as new Mercedes 4 cylinder engine, and the deletion of the propane tanks.
