Loved the video! Ever since we passed the age of 30 my husband and I have realized it’s worth spending more on things like good quality shoes, mattress, pillows and office chairs (we both work from home some of the time). These things make such a big difference in how our bodies feel every day. They’re pricey but so worth it to not have back, neck, or foot pain.

Since I moved away from a big city in New York State to Vermont, I've become a "minimalist". That's because I can't drive and I live in a small town with no big stores. I pay the utility bills, buy groceries, then take time researching for whatever else I need before buying it online and having it shipped to me. Plus life is less expensive in Vermont. All of this sure has helped my budget! This makes extra money available so I can enjoy treating those I love to gifts and meals. Like you, I like buying only healthy food that I know I'll enjoy cooking and eating. And there's a farmer's cooperative store in town and the weekly farmer's market where I can buy fresh, organic and beautiful produce, dairy and meats. May you all stay healthy, happy and safe!

Happy Anniversary! My husband and I are both disabled. We are relatively young, in our late 50's. It was hard going from him getting a nice paycheck to being on disability (I have not been able to work for 10 years). We save money where we can, and don't splurge on things anymore. But like you, if my husband wants something, I don't care that he gets it. He's the same with me, but I have fewer things that I want. Love your videos!

Same as me and my partner, we are 30 and have disabilities. We work hard but in future maybe won't be able to work quite that hard, so right now we splurge on health things so we are healthier for longer. Like going to visit healthy places like the sea or the forest. Very good shoes. Food that has a lot of nutrients. Savings account. Good mattress :)

Food is also my number one splurge. I hate eating in restaurants and thanks to the pandemic was able to stay out of them and lost 25 pounds. I prefer spending money on fresh produce at the grocery store. You look positively radiant, Vika! It always warms my heart when I’ve seen you put a new video out. Thanks for sharing this one!

To answer your question - plants! I spend waaaay too much on plants. And not just house plants, I also love my garden and buy trees when I’m sad or seeds for next year‘s growing season. It brings me so much joy so it’s the right decision for me, even if it’s not necessary as a minimalist. Love your video 💚

Wonderful video, Vika. SO good to see you, Agatha, Tolya and future baby sister again! Love how Agatha helped out with the calculator, pen and paper, and how honest you are about indulging Tolya's need for nice, new and extra things. I'm just amazed at how well you are doing, but you said things were less expensive in Republic of Georgia, so certainly that helps, as does putting some of your money in USD to protect its value. You're a very wise woman, Vika. Bright blessings on your family's continued health, happiness and success. Hope your anniversary celebration was awesome!

Totally agree on spending money on travelling and experiences rather than objects. It makes you happier. I don't need the latest iPhone or to spend lots of money on fancy clothes. Travelling the world (and continuing to do so) is my favourite thing to do. When I am older I will look back on everything with good memories and be happy that I did it. I won't care about what kind of TV I have! I'll never regret spending thousands on travel compared to other things.

I love the things that you splurge on. They all make perfect sense and many of them involve giving to others which is so important. Personally I like you will spend on pretty much anything that my husband wants. He never asks for much, so the few times that he does ask for something I am more than happy to be able to give to him. I also give money to family that needs it without any conditions. As far as I'm concerned it is theirs to keep. My husband and I are retired now so our income is limited so we watch our pennies. We don't want a lot just a roof over our heads, food on the table, and each other. My 1 obsession though is cross-stitching so whenever I get the opportunity to purchase floss or fabric while at a thrift store I do make those purchases for myself. Wishing you and your family all the best.

Very nice video, I feel this topic is not discussed enough in the minimalist community. I agree to all your items, some things may change for each person since we all live different lives and have different needs but i love the idea that minimalism is not only spending less but also spending wise :) A personal addition i practice: sometimes I buy stuff a little more expensive at local stores or small entrepreneurs, or even street vendors, instead of big markets/Amazon. In my city some social projects that help homeless people will buy them street carts or boxes of produce to be sold and help them earn their own money, so I know buying from them will make a bigger difference.

Hi Vika! I love the headband…it looks so pretty! And you are really showing baby now! I love your priorities. You are right…good food is so important. I really enjoy your videos. I am a nun actually so we live our lives very minimal. My family bought me this tablet to communicate with but I enjoy a few you tube channels too like yours! We own two dresses a year, two pairs of shoes. We eat plain healthy food but I probably spend too much on books. We are allowed to spend gift money on needs and other items. I learned a long time ago too that the more I give away the more comes back to me! And then I can give that away too! Keep up the good work!

I find I agree with you in this video. My family never had much money, so my clothes for example, were always ok but never on trend or the most famous brand. When I started working and getting my own money, I started spending just because I could and didn't have to choose. I bought things I used once and then forgot about them. Then, when COVID started, I actually reviewed my way of spending. I don't buy anymore just because I like it, but I am trying to think..."do I need this?". But I am like you with food, I try to buy the better one. I have noticed that all the things you splurge on are quite important to live a healthy life. Thank you for this video.

I'm growing some of my food in the backyard: herbs, tomatoes, stuff like that. Everything is organic and healthy and the taste is awesome and insanely expensive. More important, this is the only sort of exercising that I can tolerate, I've never been so fit in 15 years, the improvement in my quality of life is worth all the extra money I spend.

Especially during these times, wasting money is not wise to do. I love buying perennial plants to put outdoors, all kinds, and planting flowers to put on our deck. I buy a lot of different kinds of wild bird seed and peanuts to feed the wild birds…spend too much money on them. 🙃 I love home improvements and I have to be careful with Amazon, it’s just too easy. It doesn't hurt to "splurge" a little on the things we love when we can afford it. I love sourcing and purchasing gifts for others. I get great enjoyment from it. I make some little gifts too. I agree with the splurging on food! Especially since I started my weight loss journey, I try to be mindful of the things I eat because I eat way less than before and I want to emjoy the things I DO eat. That doesn't mean that I only buy "healthy" foods, but I usually make sure to buy foods that I know I like and that I am excited to eat. I also like to pre-plan my meals for the week and buy the ingredients in bulk, so I always have the stuff to make something nice in my house.

Your budget sounds well thought out and I hope it continues to work for you. But your budget might not be like someone else's yet you both accomplish the same thing. So more power to you in handling your money and I hope you continue to do good financially!

I splurge on gift giving the most. I always say I will buy this one item, then I see another and add to the gift. But that brings me joy which is important. We also save and splurge on a nice vacation once a year to add to our little side trips throughout the year.

Happy Anniversary to you Vika and Tolya! Thank you for sharing this topic; I really appreciate your honest (as always) perspective. You and Agatha are looking so lovely. I agree that there are certain things to splurge on, such as when you are hosting people at your home and you want them to eat well and enjoy! Sending you all lots of love!

My partner and I have been together for 8 years and we recently finished studying. We had to furnish our entire flat and I made sure to buy quality, durable things that I liked 100%, regardless of the price. Even if it took us longer to pay, at least then I knew that the dining table would last me 10 years, and so on with every item we chose. We will finish paying for everything now in June, so I'm very happy! Since we have more income (we used to be students), what I don't save on is: food, health (but now that we work, we have really good private healthcare plans, that we even pay less than before when we where just students haha is so weird), books, eating out. Otherwise, I try to stay within budget, though. Furniture and electronics we don't buy because we have everything we need. I try not to be tempted by new things and consume less. When we have more money at our disposal I don't think I would save on travel either. :)

Skincare- along the same line of food you mentioned. Also, adult fitness/ kids' athletic development. Gym fees, home equipment and organized sport can be quite expensive especially as kids start to progress. Really enjoyed this video!

Ahhh lovely to hear you talk about this. I live with my sister, we are Christians and we can very much relate to the way you handle your money, id say its very similar to us. We believe we are being led by God in a similar way to how you describe. As the bible says: we have learned to abase and abound. We found it really encouraging to hear your description on splurging in your budgeting, it makes me feel better about some things. We find that we have to trust God more and more each day now as the cost of living is higher, its our trust and faith in Him that helps us to have peace in spending and giving, to not worry about having enough. God has always given us enough for our needs. I just had to spend more money than usual on clothes for myself which was hard for me but I know these clothes will last along time and I won't have to worry about that again for awhile. lol. i felt like I should buy better quality clothes so they'll last.
