Loved the video! Ever since we passed the age of 30 my husband and I have realized it’s worth spending more on things like good quality shoes, mattress, pillows and office chairs (we both work from home some of the time). These things make such a big difference in how our bodies feel every day. They’re pricey but so worth it to not have back, neck, or foot pain.

Since I moved away from a big city in New York State to Vermont, I've become a "minimalist". That's because I can't drive and I live in a small town with no big stores. I pay the utility bills, buy groceries, then take time researching for whatever else I need before buying it online and having it shipped to me. Plus life is less expensive in Vermont. All of this sure has helped my budget! This makes extra money available so I can enjoy treating those I love to gifts and meals. Like you, I like buying only healthy food that I know I'll enjoy cooking and eating. And there's a farmer's cooperative store in town and the weekly farmer's market where I can buy fresh, organic and beautiful produce, dairy and meats. May you all stay healthy, happy and safe!

Happy Anniversary! My husband and I are both disabled. We are relatively young, in our late 50's. It was hard going from him getting a nice paycheck to being on disability (I have not been able to work for 10 years). We save money where we can, and don't splurge on things anymore. But like you, if my husband wants something, I don't care that he gets it. He's the same with me, but I have fewer things that I want. Love your videos!

Same as me and my partner, we are 30 and have disabilities. We work hard but in future maybe won't be able to work quite that hard, so right now we splurge on health things so we are healthier for longer. Like going to visit healthy places like the sea or the forest. Very good shoes. Food that has a lot of nutrients. Savings account. Good mattress :)

I love the things that you splurge on. They all make perfect sense and many of them involve giving to others which is so important. Personally I like you will spend on pretty much anything that my husband wants. He never asks for much, so the few times that he does ask for something I am more than happy to be able to give to him. I also give money to family that needs it without any conditions. As far as I'm concerned it is theirs to keep. My husband and I are retired now so our income is limited so we watch our pennies. We don't want a lot just a roof over our heads, food on the table, and each other. My 1 obsession though is cross-stitching so whenever I get the opportunity to purchase floss or fabric while at a thrift store I do make those purchases for myself. Wishing you and your family all the best.

Very nice video, I feel this topic is not discussed enough in the minimalist community. I agree to all your items, some things may change for each person since we all live different lives and have different needs but i love the idea that minimalism is not only spending less but also spending wise :) A personal addition i practice: sometimes I buy stuff a little more expensive at local stores or small entrepreneurs, or even street vendors, instead of big markets/Amazon. In my city some social projects that help homeless people will buy them street carts or boxes of produce to be sold and help them earn their own money, so I know buying from them will make a bigger difference.

I find I agree with you in this video. My family never had much money, so my clothes for example, were always ok but never on trend or the most famous brand. When I started working and getting my own money, I started spending just because I could and didn't have to choose. I bought things I used once and then forgot about them. Then, when COVID started, I actually reviewed my way of spending. I don't buy anymore just because I like it, but I am trying to think..."do I need this?". But I am like you with food, I try to buy the better one. I have noticed that all the things you splurge on are quite important to live a healthy life. Thank you for this video.

I agree with the splurging on food! Especially since I started my weight loss journey, I try to be mindful of the things I eat because I eat way less than before and I want to emjoy the things I DO eat. That doesn't mean that I only buy "healthy" foods, but I usually make sure to buy foods that I know I like and that I am excited to eat. I also like to pre-plan my meals for the week and buy the ingredients in bulk, so I always have the stuff to make something nice in my house.

My partner and I have been together for 8 years and we recently finished studying. We had to furnish our entire flat and I made sure to buy quality, durable things that I liked 100%, regardless of the price. Even if it took us longer to pay, at least then I knew that the dining table would last me 10 years, and so on with every item we chose. We will finish paying for everything now in June, so I'm very happy! Since we have more income (we used to be students), what I don't save on is: food, health (but now that we work, we have really good private healthcare plans, that we even pay less than before when we where just students haha is so weird), books, eating out. Otherwise, I try to stay within budget, though. Furniture and electronics we don't buy because we have everything we need. I try not to be tempted by new things and consume less. When we have more money at our disposal I don't think I would save on travel either. :)

Ahhh lovely to hear you talk about this. I live with my sister, we are Christians and we can very much relate to the way you handle your money, id say its very similar to us. We believe we are being led by God in a similar way to how you describe. As the bible says: we have learned to abase and abound. We found it really encouraging to hear your description on splurging in your budgeting, it makes me feel better about some things. We find that we have to trust God more and more each day now as the cost of living is higher, its our trust and faith in Him that helps us to have peace in spending and giving, to not worry about having enough. God has always given us enough for our needs. I just had to spend more money than usual on clothes for myself which was hard for me but I know these clothes will last along time and I won't have to worry about that again for awhile. lol. i felt like I should buy better quality clothes so they'll last.
