9 Things I Wish I Knew Before Starting Ghost Of Tsushima

There's a vast, beautiful island to explore and many battles to fight in Ghost of Tsushima, but even with its traditional open world trappings, you may need a bit more than the wind to guide you. From some basic habits that'll give you the upper hand in combat to systems to be mindful of as you progress through the game, the video above outlines the things you need to know before starting Ghost of Tsushima.
When it comes to combat--one of the game's strengths--it's best that you keep a few things in mind: change your stance against corresponding enemies, take out archers first, snag the Mizu-no-Kami charm to making parrying easier, and use smoke bombs as an offensive tool for assassinations. When you're out and about, put on your Traveler's attire to uncover more of the map and reveal key locations more easily--you can also just consult our locations guides for hot springs (max health boost), bamboo strikes (max resolve increase), shinto shrines (new charms), and more.

A MAJOR TIP that was not in the video is to go to the Arrow Peak shrine in the southeast part of the map (google arrow peak shrine to find a map with exact location); the charm you get at this shrine allows you to get more resources and supplies every time you collect some (and it is not a small portion, it usually is about 60% or more of the amount you would normally pick up), in my opinion it is the MOST valuable charm to get in the early game so you don’t have to spend time hunting down resources.

I just started playing in Nov 2022 and found that charm very very early. There is NO WAY I would have the upgrades I have at this point of my playthrough if it wasn't for the enormous haul of supplies and such I have gotten thanks to this charm. I tied it to my traveler's outfit build along with the charm restoring health outside of combat and immediately switch to it as soon as I am out of a fight before harvesting any supplies. It is amazing how often I gain almost as much from the charm as the original haul.

Do not invest in the exploration of wind perks. Trust me that the game gives you so many clues to find everything you need without them. Way later on after you maxed everything if you are going for trophies and are missing certain shrines unlock the ones pertaining to them,

You should also know that the game does NOT accurately save your progress automatically like it says. I have the Director's Cut with Iki Island expansion, which I started just to see what would happen. After the initial animation, I realized half your menu is missing and you can't spend any accumulated skill points. You can't change your gear or anything like that. So I exited to the title screen and reloaded my last "saved game" from 15 minutes before that??.... IT TOOK ME BACK TO LAST WEEK!! I have to re-do EVERYTHING over the past 7 days that I've already conquered and accumulated, and there's nothing I can do about it. If you don't MANUALLY save everything when you're done for that session, you will NOT be able to go back to it if your decide to reload a different period. The "continue" function does NOT save your progress if you try to LOAD a previous session. I have 3 armor sets and full weapon upgrades to do ALL OVER AGAIN.
