Today I used Bernzomatic Map gas and torch head to repair a couple tie down straps for a flatbed trailer at work ..... cut the frayed ends clean and straight, then sealed the edge by melting the poly fibers into the natural fibers.
@zingsting95957 жыл бұрын
You don't want to use a blowtorch on any steel tools that require hardness for it to perform, like files and knives as the heat from the blowtorch can and will ruin the steels temper. If you want to do cooking with the bernzomatic and not get torch taste, consider using the searzall attachment.

I know that the point of this video was the Bernzomatic torches, which are great, but I noticed not too long ago that acrylic edges can actually be planed back to optical clarity with a very sharp block plane, set shallow, of course; have you ever tried that? (I have seen that you sometimes if not always avoid sandpaper when a sharp tool (such as a cabinet scraper) will do the job on cabinetry wood, so perhaps that would be the case with acrylic too...)
@DavidWaeldervideo7 жыл бұрын
+James Buchanan good looking out! I like a fresh razor scrape (utility blade) to finish a fine sand. Never though of a well honed block plane! That's great to work some janky edges if your repurpose some material. Thanks for your time

can it be used for extracting things? like.. stuck bolts, washers... confessions.. so on? >_>

Another good use for a torch is to heat up a metal part and press it into plastic. Quicker than most glues and holds pretty strong, depending on the shape. Hot carriage bolts inserted in pre-drilled thick wall PP or ABS hold like crazy.

liked the brazing! #10 pop bubbles in epoxy?
@DavidWaeldervideo7 жыл бұрын
+Vintage Wood Workshop thank you , I have heard mixed ideas - it kicks reaction faster - only removing bubbles on surface from direct heat- shorter pot life - less can escape- an ingot shape mold with lots of exposed top surface area has worked well with torch method for statue bases I made a while back- smoothcast resin.
@VintageWoodWorkshop7 жыл бұрын
David Waelder OK, good to know. I just got an old vacuum pump and chamber working so I have to check that out for the bubbles too. seems the lack of pressure makes all the bubbles expand and rise right out of the liquids I put in. boiling 62 degree water was pretty cool too!

you can make your own! I couldn't afford a blowtorch when I was ten so I took a plastic bottle and put two plastic tubes into the lid. one goes to the bottom of the bottle and the other one is just below the lid. I filled the bottle with gasoline and blew into the long tube. the gasoline was vaporized by the bubbles. I added a homemade burner made from a 90° elbow steel pipe to the other tube and done!
