My husband and I rewear our pants. We don’t wash them after every wear. I’ve done this for years. I admit though, I don’t like germs so I have always washed my kids pants after one wear. In school, especially as little kids, they sit on floors and stuff. I’ve seen some of these school floors and they don’t feel clean. 🤪 maybe I’m weird. Lol. We all have our thing I guess.

For 50 years, I had my own washer and dryer in the house. Laundry was never a problem for me. Now that I live in an apartment with no machines, I have to take all my laundry to the laundromat. I HATE it. I wait too long, struggle to haul it all in and out of the house, and it's insanely expensive to do. I never realized how lucky I was until now. 😢

Hi Deanna I feel your pain. I do like being in charge of my own laundry. Would you wash your own undies and socks in the apartment? I wash tops frequently but trousers and fleeces much less often. I changed good quality bedding for cheaper, lighter sheets and duvet cover cos they take up less space in the machine and dry quickly. Do consider decluttering your wardrobe... and investing in a trolley with wheels - both will help make the rotation lighter. Is it possible for you to leave the laundry into a laundromat where someone will do the job for you while you do another message? Every blessing. G Ire

I use a laundromat too. I have machines at the Apt but they are more expensive than the laundromat. What I like is that 3 loads or 8 loads takes two hours a week and that's it. If I can plan that for after work one day of the week it's like I have a free day on the weekend. No more all Saturday waiting for loads to be done or waiting for someone else to finish before I can start.

It’s only my husband and I now and I’m retired but I have cut back so much on laundry tasks because it is not fun. I only use 1 towel for showers and just drying my hands in our master bathroom, per week. I figure I’m clean when I get out of the shower so don’t need clean towel every time. My husband works with steel in a shop so he has 2 towels per week since they do get dirtier. I wear clothes at least twice before washing. We do have a towel in 2 other bathrooms which I change once per week also. I do my laundry, usually 3 loads on weekend because here, that is the cheap time. If it looks like it will be more loads, I will put one load in after 7 p.m. and put on clothes line the next day or if needed in the dryer that evening. I don’t fold socks or underwear. And our clothes are on a shelving unit in bins. 1 bin for pants, 1 for tshirts, 1 for warmer shirts, etc. easier than drawers. I also put all colours in together. Whatever makes chores easier works 😊

I’m convinced that most people wash their clothes to death. Unless you are working at a really dirty job most of us can wear our clothing more than once, even three times before washing. I am able to wear the same t-shirt and shorts or jeans several times if I hang them up or spread them out overnight to let them air out then either wear them again the next day or put them away to wear another day. Same with kids. Towels only need to be laundered once a week, sheets every two weeks. I know I may be in the minority but I consider myself to be a very clean person. Donna

Same here! I thought this was standard practice. Unless my clothes are visually dirty or smelly they get a few days wear. We also air dry moth of our clothes to help them last longer. Our sheets we wash once a week because we have pets that like to cuddle on the bed.

I keep the Febreeze spray that can refresh things, odor wise. And the Downey wrinkle release spray. Works great. Also in sunny weather or on windy days I’ll hang things outside to air out. Even jackets and coats on sunny winter days. Most of mine are washable but I don’t like to do that a lot.

I think we all have to do laundry that fits our particular needs. The laundry process for us is long and tedious and there is just the two of us and some grandkids clothes. Our 4 year old washer is a pain to me, as we have to wash the clothes out, check for stains, food, any type of anything. Our clothes and grandkids do get dirty dirty! Gardening, food stains, kids dirt and etc. plus the lotions and chemicals that need washed out. Just to prep each load and get the washer started takes 15 min - to 60 minutes. We also have to carry buckets of water to fill our washer with enough water. We can’t buy any material as our grandson needs cotton clothes due to his Ichthyosis. With prescription creams and moisturizers on them they need especially washed out first. Anyway, when clothes are finally washed and dried, we then start throwing the ones to be rewashed back in the laundry as the washer does a poor job of cleaning and whatever was on it will remain if we didn’t catch it at first.

Goodness me! It sounds like you may have Better luck with an old fashioned hand washer! I’ve done loads of washing in the bathtub after a stain treatment and just step on it until the clothes are clean, didn’t take me long and I used it as my workout for the day!

I got me a little rolling laundry cart/cabinet that I do the folding on. It also holds my laundry supplies. It’s just me here so I don’t need to do it daily. It’s cool also Bcuz part of the table lifts up and has 2 canvas “hampers” for dirty clothes under it. I also wear stuff more than once and I use an over the door hook for “half dirty” clothes and pajamas. I also run my clothing on delicate cycle just to make them last longer. My latest thing is that I got me a couple of thinner waffle type “sheet” towels. Love how it dries me off and also dries faster and easier to launder.

I totally agree! I’m a load a day gal, now that we are retired grandparents it’s every second or third day but I think & ask myself if I have enough for a load. Both of us have minimal wardrobes. I do project 333 and that translates to 50-60 total items year round. Dh has 8 shirts, 8 pants. We air out the clothes and get 3-4 wearings each. Towels- we each have a colour and I change once a week with the sheets.

Thank for common sense video. Minimising household is easy when we set our own rules. I am doing 2 towels per person. I range from dk blue to yellows so need to wait for a batch. My washer has a dial that decides water level. I also wear my clothes 3-4x before washing, except when I use public bathrooms then they get put in wash right away.

Why carry the clothes somewhere else to fold them on the floor in the first place? Set the basket in front of the dryer, remove item, fold, set in basket. Repeat. Leave with folded items. The basket is big enough to sort most things as they go in. …But also, there’s a table and counter right behind you?

I always felt I had to wash bedding on Saturday as that’s how my mom did it. Buuuttttt….I do a load twice a week and I don’t waanna do laundry on Saturday. 😂 Recently I started stripping the beds on Sunday morning and starting the sheets load before church (sometimes I’m even able to switch it over to the dryer before we leave) then when we get home the beds are aired out and I can remake them with the sheets from the dryer. I do the quilt every other or every third week. It feels great getting into a clean bed on Sunday night. It helps with my “weekly reset” on Sunday night. I love your practical videos and I’m looking forward to binge watching them all over again when I’m out of school for summer break! I’m also ready to do another round of decluttering and dig a bit deeper this summer. I’m ready to color in more of my 2023 in 2023 chart! 😁 ❤

I like your view on laundry, especially about rewearing clothes. I have a special clothes stand that I hang jeans, pants and dresses to air out so I can get a couple of wearings out of them before I wash them. I am a folder though, I like things neat. They are take up less space if they’re folded.

We do laundry every 2-3 days or when we are out of kitchen towels. We do 1 load altogether 1 load no sorting. Dishes we do after each meal, no dishwasher which took more dishes and tied up dishes 3 hrs. takes less time after each meal we wash, then we let air dry and put up before the next meal. We don't have to buy dishwasher stuff, no dishwasher repairs, no one ever wanted to empty, and we don't have to have many dishes. Also bc we do laundry every 2-3 days we only have to have 4 outfits max so everything is worn over and over until the items die and then we get new and toss the old. Takes 29min. to wash, 40-1 hr. min. to dry then about 10-15min. max to put up, now we have a family of 3 so not a ton. Min. Mom does 1 load each morning and they have 4 kids and mom and dad so the family of 6 and they do like 6max outfits per kid per season. Also we all have 1 type of sock meaning I have one type of sock and color, kiddo has 1 type and 1 color and husband has 1 type and 1 color so it is easy to tell whos socks are whos. This also includes female under garmets mine or white and my kiddo likes black, making it easy to short. Also if someone does not turn right side out, I don't do that I fold it up wrong side out, or I charge 1 dollar per shirt or jean is not right side out, underwear and socks and undies I don't care but I fold the way you put it in the laundry, I don't turn right side out I fold it wrong side out if it is wrong side out from the laundry.

Same! We have flannel sheets for fall/winter and percale sheets for spring/summer. I usually wash my sheets and return them to the bed once mid-season. I encourage my teen boys to wash theirs more frequently, but if they don't care then I don't care. ;)

Our drier broke and it was the best thing as far as doing laundry. I bought a clothesline, strung it up on the porch and hang stuff there. I kinda have to watch the weather but that's not a big deal. I have the advantage of working from home so this is great. I should add, I guess, that being a minimalist as far as clothes helps too :) The line holds only a few things so between my son's t-shirts and my pajamas -- which I have more of than actual clothes for some reason -- I do laundry most sunny days. It's a small load and it takes only a few minutes to hang them up. And then as they dry I can take my time taking them off the line, folding them and setting them in a plastic bin that was in the donate box but has been put to use. We never run out of clothes, I'm less stressed about laundry and our clothes smell like fresh air. It also gets me outside more often so I take advantage of that and sit in the sun for a minute or pet one of the cats. I slow down. And all that is a good thing.

My favorite household chore is hanging clothes outside to dry. Not many folks seem to do this anymore. We live in an area that hasn't band hanging your clothes outside to dry. Many developments in our area do not want people doing this anymore.

Yes, I love hanging our clothes out to dry! I'm a mom to 8 and currently only wash 4 kids clothing, so it makes the task easier. I hang clothes out for 6 months out of the year because we love in new england, I do this to save money but I also find it therapeutic. And I believe it's better for the integrity of the fabric to not put every load through the hot drier.

All good tips! I streamlined years ago. I don't fold any underwear, I have a dedicated drawer for each. Socks, been buying the same ones for years, 2 packages of white ones, no matching needed, they have their own drawer. When they wear out, buy 2 new packages. Towels, same here, use the same one all week, then change to a clean one. I Keep a hand towel by the sink. I have 3 bath towels & 2 guest towels & 3 hand. 2 sets of sheets for each bed, so I do fold a set of sheets, no big deal. Watching all the organizing videos has streamlined my daily, weekly chores. Love this video! I do quite a few of these things now. But, like you, it took me a longtime to discover these ideas. Having fewer clothes has helped so much, and not needing to sort or iron is another time and energy saver. I live in an apartment building and do not have an in-apartment washer/dryer, so I do laundry only once a week, but it still works for me because I’m on my own - empty-nester, so to speak. I used to use pods, but am now trying out the “sheets” - they seem to work okay, as far as I can tell. They take up less room on my shelf and they seem safer than pods, as the bags the pods come in need to be “locked” because they are so pretty and kids might think they are candy. So, as I have young grandkids that come over occasionally,and even though I keep laundry products up high, (and all cleaning products)…sheets seem safer. Thanks for sharing. You are very inspirational and keep me on my journey of living well, but with less “stuff”. ❤

Great tips. I live alone & do the washing about 3 times a week, plus on a Saturday I wash the cloths from work. I like to put all my clothes etc away as soon as the tumble dryer goes off. I hang t.shirts & jumpers etc on coat hangers in the wardrobe. A lot of people in the UK won’t use a tumble dryer & hang their washing on the line. I can’t be bothered with that & don’t even own a washing line in the garden.

Excellent video! I just did laundry yesterday, outside on the deck in temp of 80! I don’t separate clothes anymore, that is a game changer! I had 2 loads! I am going to try not folding my t-shirts, and unmentionables. The less work the better! I do love doing laundry now that I don’t have to go down into the dungeon of doom! With my mini washer and spin dryer machine, I can move it to the bathroom, kitchen, and now outside! I’m never going back to a full size washer and dryer! We save so much on our electric bill too!

We don't use a drier. Less power less harsh on clothes. Yes, I have to peg on line (indoors if wet in our sunroom, outside laundry if fine), but it is an opportunity to chat to my neighbour occasionally, or play with dog whilst out there... fast track is hang all shirts and tshirts on hangers, they go straight into wardrobe when dry, no folding. Trousers get hung over hanger for husband. My clothes are rolled up which means easily slotted into drawers. We wash on average twice a week. I'm trying to cut down on number of clothes, but like you now wear more than once unless I mess up.

I have about a dozen things I feel like commenting, but since I’m cleaning up my kitchen on my big moving day, I’ll try to pick only one comment, which is actually related to my move: I was telling one of my neighbours about the layout of our new place and when I mentioned the laundry room, she asked if it was big enough to dump the dirty clothes. I truthfully needed a moment to understand what she meant! Thanks in large part to your guidance, I am so consistent with laundry these days that I sometimes think I’m a bit addicted to it… the only time it really piled up was when I was injured a few months ago and my husband and kids attempted to do it, which was mostly a success, except when they miscommunicates and ended up re-cleaning clean stuff! This is another reason to do it more or less daily, so you don’t have to keep track of pretty much anything! It’s like brushing your teeth… 😂❤🎉

I thought that opening and closing closets and drawers to put clothes away is something that adds up time. Doing a whole lot of laundry at once reduces that work.

I taught my children to do their own laundry when they were tall enough to reach the dials on the machines. By the time they where. teenagers they actually objected if I tried to help them out as they had their own routine.

As a latch key kiddo when most others moms were stay at home, I learned to do my own laundry and as a Virgo I didn’t want anyone else to do it being very particular! It was a win win for me and my mom!

I have a big fluffy cat, thus, cat fur is always around no matter where I fold clothes. We keep sticky rollers around and roll our clothes before we walk out the door. Extra effort for sure but we love the cat so it’s worth it.
