Great to find you 😀 Sometimes the chores feel like a thankless and tedious job . I have a friend who was paralyzed in a motor accident with young children to care for. I know she would give anything to just be able to sweep a floor or do something she is no longer able to do. When I think of her, I realise how lucky I am to be able to still do these menial tasks. I make myself feel the warmth of the water when doing dishes, or dance with the broomstick when sweeping because I could not imagine losing the feeling of those really gifted blessings x

I struggled for years to get a handle on my housework. Getting rid of a lot of belongings has really made a difference. But honestly after applying all the tips I was still struggling a lot of the time. I recently found out I have ADHD. Now I understand why I can't get a grip on things and why life is so tiring to me. Discovering this was hard but also so helpful. Now I understand why the regular tips/hacks/routines didn't work for me. I am now using all kinds of ADHD tips and tricks and that next to accepting myself for who I am that has made a world of difference.

You made a lot of great points. Today most people have an abundance of things and become overwhelmed with it all and then don't know what to do with it. I've come to the point that if I have to buy something that's not a need, something else has to go. Our church just began a share ministry where if people have something they want to get rid of that is in good shape and works well, we put it on the bulletin board and in the newsletter. It's all for free. Makes things easier to get rid of and help someone else out who needs something.

I often hit on random YT channels & there are things that I see people really struggle with. I do not like a house personally that does not have a lot of stuff. I just make sure that I always put everything back in its place & know exactly what I have & where. I love my collectibles, plants, books, art. Other people don't, they can visit somewhere else. The trick is to have very organized days. Vacuum every morning after I feed the poultry & budgie before I eat my big meal of the day. That keeps the house more dust free & curtains only need taking down to wash 2x a year. Walls only get washed down every 2nd yr. at end of heating season, so that I can preserve that particular shade that seemed so important back 5 yrs ago when I invested time in paint selection. I cook large amounts of food 1x a week only. (no don't have a freezer, only a small bar fridge) Once the 1 ring on stovetop & microwave are going, the sink lined w. newspaper the veg peels etc just keep collecting while things cook, put aside to cool for storage. Pots etc can all be used several times, washed at end of day by hand to save water & electricity. Never waste electricity to heat an oven unless I'm doing Xmas baking or 5 or more batches casseroles which don't do as well in microwave, or roasting pan of green pea soup under a ham. This all saves time, water, dish detergent. Makes other days less hectic. I do a load of wash each evening or early a.m. while electricity is in the cheaper time slot. All clothing year round is hung on the $ store umbrella style hangers by having it on a rod suspended between 2 brackets above the back door. Then moved to a broom handle between 2 hanging basket brackets on the back wall where the clothing blows dry, wrinkle free. Comes in later to be put away immediately....kids do folding of dishcloths, socks, undies etc & take to put away. This starts at age 2 or 3 at most. If the clothing is not completely dry, it gets moved to the inside bar to dry overnight...put away in morning. I sometimes have to hang the thing on a large hanging basket infront of windows (a bracket for those is in the center of each window frame) if going out to work extra early. This keeps things from wrinkling. Those umbrella style hangers can also go on a very short clothes line between 2 trees or a wall & a tree or post & large sheets can hang on 2 of them, spread at a bit of a distance. Stuff this way can be all brought in in a few minutes! Just 2 or 3 hangers w. lots of stuff. I only use face cloths by sinks for drying hands, get changed daily, on the standing holder (made for coffee cups originally w. the side arms taken out) rather than big towels where everyone uses a corner yet the entire towel gets washed, wasting water, soap, power, time. I have 7 garden beds, huge lawns, rent raised bed gardens in the village where I have to shop for everything I ever need 20 min. away. I grow low maintenance things there since I only use the car for monthly shopping. My workplace over an hour away, in the opposite direction. Free-range eggs are sold to a local eatery/shop/postal outlet. To save $ all water is let into a pitcher by each sink while waiting for hot to arrive & that gets all kinds of uses incl. watering plants. All rainwater is bottled so that more capacity is created in my 2 containers. That is used in gardens, for washing the car, tools, my hair, flushing toilet. I consider all daylight hours to be work hours, but evenings are for those crafts which have longterm value to the family (quilting, furniture restoration or building etc) and using my computer to learn things & learn about people. I have rarely ever wasted money on a tv & as far as I know only 1 of my kids has one in her home. No tv. no snaking. Hope that this is of help to a few people who struggle w. life in their homes.

I agree about the effect of words on a young mind. My brother had a very business focus mind as a child. He developed a small business were he dropped off order books and picked up orders every week. Then he ran into a teacher from our school. When that person found out it was a for profit business, he lectured my brother on his selfishness on not giving the money to charity. My brother has never had another business.

I tried all of the things you mention. But even if you can do this, not everyone can do it. I have adhd, was raising a kid with severe mental and sometimes physical challenges on my own and because of this struggled with depression. Im glad it works for you, but having others say stuff like this to me when I was at rock bottom only made me feel worse, I felt like a failure. I only got the surroundings I wanted when my kid moved out at 18 years of age and I had moved in with my partner who does not have adhd and support me through rough patches. I work hard to keep the house clean and tidy, because it makes me feel good and acomplished. But I hope everyone know that you dont need a tidy home for it to be a good home. Prioritise and put family, mental and physical health first. And know that everyone has periods in their life when having a tidy livingroom or kitchen is impossible, and thats ok. Life will get easier in time and if you want a tidy home, you will get there when you have time and energy to do it. It doesnt matter, its just stuff. People matter. Do people first, stuff can wait.

I think it's important to remind yourself that it doesn't have to be done all at once. You can do anything for 5 minutes, even when you struggle with depression and other issues. It may be hard, but it's possible. It may be the last thing you want to do, but 5 minutes is doable. And 5 minutes today, 5 minutes tomorrow, 5 minutes two days later, really will make a difference. Baby steps.

This is the 1st time I came across you and I decided I'm subscribing you think the way I do I'm a farm girl from years ago and I had a upbringing with a woodstove a garden And an Apple and cherry orchard it was lovely and I was such a minimum as way back then and over the years I acquired stuff because I thought what would it be like to have stuck that I'd never had in my life so if I look back now all that stuff is gone I wish I had the million dollars I spent on all the stuff and just to think that I'm going back to my original upbringing That was on the farm. And it was an easy life it was mentally relaxing having hardly anything but just what we needed in our family. I would get up just as the sun would get-up-and-go to bed an hour after the sunset it was amazing life and I remembered the well water and I remember the fresh air and laying in the tall grass on a summer's nightand looking up at night at the stars. This was the life. Then you leave the farm and you The city and you see all the fast food restaurants and you start spending your money and then you go to neighbors who live in the city and they have fancy this and fancy shoes and fancy cars and fancy everything and then you get consumed in the fanciness that is all around you. But then you get older and you say to yourself what was that all about. And then you get to the point and you say all I need like my dad used to say is a roof over my head food in my little tummy and a bed to sleep on. So that's the basics however we can't always live like that as we well know. But I didn't have a mixer. I had to do everything by hand. And the bread tins we used it for making meat loaf and cake pans. This cut back on a ton of space. My mind was clearer. I had pet dogs cats and 3 pet monkeys and I'll tell you having those pets out in the country and even when I lived along the coast of British Columbia appearing Canada that was a gas growing up as a kid.

I'm 69, a procrastinator, lazy and messy. My house and yard are a wreck...oh, my garage too. ...I won't go into details, too embarrassed. I only work, would you believe to clean house for an 83 year old woman twice a week for 4 hrs,, total, and drive my son home from work twice a week. The rest of my time is spent on my laptop. I only wish I had the energy. My thought to pass on is to not hold on to 'emotional stuff'. My brother sister and parents have all passed...I've got a garage and two closets and another room Filled with 'emotional stuff'. When my son was at home I made myself clean so he would clean...it didn't help him, today at 26 he won't clean. On my kitchen window, refg, and bathroom mirror I've put post-it notes "apathy is not an option". My grammy Molly said 'one on one in the wash and one in the draw to avoid over buying. So now that i've not got the get up and go, my brain is yelling at me Clean Up because you don't want to leave for your son what you had to clean up in your Mom's home...4 levels of 35 years of accumulation. So my question to anyone who has read this far, thank you, is if you are addicted to a chair and computer morning noon night How Did You Break The Addiction. Thank You in advance!!!

Thank you for sharing! I relate so much. Sometimes if I can afford it I’ll pay for a house cleaner to come when I need a hard reset - can be so much easier to keep it clean from there than clean up a huge mess. I also like to make a list of fun things I’d really like to be doing instead of scrolling my phone and try to do one every day - could be just taking a stroll or reading a book. I think it’s important to center your happiness instead of feeling bad about what didn’t get done. I hope you start to feel better soon! 🧡 Sounds like a lot of loss in your life which is always so hard. Hugs

I dont know where to begin. Got so many questions about what u have written. But first, pls stop beating urself up about ANYTHING!! These may sound excuses to the unaware, but, a lot of what u r doing is related to ur health, genes n upbringing. In a way, i do understand y ur son doesnt want to clean up, but, on the other hand i got a bit irritated with him. But now for the questions 1. Y in the world r u blaming urself when u KNOW how old u r? 2. What physical n mental health problems do u have? 3. If ur parents were hoarders, what makes u think u can do any better? 4. Do u do the cleaning for that old lady for the money? 5. What sruff do u watch/read on the net? 6. Dont u get bored of it? (asking cos i m an addict too, but, i do get terribly bored of it) 7.What was the nature of ur job before retirement? 8.Do u follow any particular religion? And now for some opinions n suggestions of my own.... 1.I think u surely have add/adhd n maybe even depression. 2. U clearly miss human company, thats y u r taking the help of the internet to kill ur boredom. 3. I suggest u dont worry so much about what u will leave for ur son. I m quite sure he will call the trash disposers (whatever they r called) n throw everything away. 4. I too m a messy person by nature n i m not terribly ashamed of it sometimes, but, sometimes i feel extremely frustrated.

@@maryanne7161 you can hire someone to help you get a head start on the garage; you just need someone who will not judge and who will be an extra set of arms and legs. If that’s not an option, maybe try Swedish Death Cleaning or Marie Kondo’s first book. I have the same struggle with just wanting to research and plan how I’m going to do things so those types of books are good because they are highly actionable. Mel Robbins has a good tactic that involves counting backwards to “launch” yourself into action. Just decide on a very specific task that you’re going to do at the end of the countdown. I also live Dana K. White’s audiobooks that she narrates herself; they’re great to listen to while decluttering. Her no mess decluttering method is covered in a few KZbin videos and it’s kind of mind blowing for someone like me who wants to follow the professional organizer rules (clear the space, sort items, etc.).

I have POTS, ADHD, and am Bi-polar. I’m a stay at home mom with a frequently trashed house. I’m clean but not organized- I’ll pick up the clutter to disinfect under it, and put it back. I struggle SEVERELY with energy but can’t consume caffeine because of the POTS. And because I have Bi-polar II, I am depressed for roughly 60% of my days out of the year. I struggle and my mind is my worst enemy. I find that getting out of the house even when I feel like garbage, and hanging out with women that “have it together” helps me immensely. It really lights the fire under my ass and gets me moving. It’s hard to get started, though.

I always did okay, up until 4th grade (I had inattentive ADHD but didn't know, just thought I was lazy and messy). In 4th, my desk became very messy and I had trouble doing my homework. I was a straight a student before that year, so my teacher didn't understand. One day, he picked my desk up in front of the entire class and started shaking it to get everything out. I was so embarrassed.

Oh wow. Megan, I’m so sorry that happened. Thank you for sharing your experience and timeframe this happened. This is very helpful when backtracking to determine when we first noticed a change in behavior.

@@souledout3239 You're welcome. I'm just so happy that there are strides being made in the world of mental health and neurodiversity. When I was that age, it was impossible for quiet girls to have ADHD. That was only for hyperactive boys. Now we know that isn't true. I can't wait to see what else they discover about our brains. It was also said autism and ADHD couldn't coexist in a person. We now know that isn't the truth as well.

@@novocaine09 I agree and feel encouraged with the new research and data. A healthy lesson here is that we must maintain open minds to explore all angles of mental, physical and emotional behavior. Textbook cases are just that fixed which can lead to bias and dependence on expected cause and effect. I believe we are heading in the right direction to give the misunderstood, undiagnosed and underserved answers to questions we just simply did not know to ask in the past.

Every time you say "I can't..." accept that you're generally saying " I don't want to because ...". It might be because it's uncomfortable, or it's inconvenient, or you'd rather do something else.

Just curious, but why do you have a separate electric grill, when you can do the same thing on your stove? I just love all of your truths in your videos. When my children were in school, the motto (of the school system) was "No Excuses". This was taught to them there starting out in kindergarten. It really stuck with them. They are adults now, and it still is in them. Thanks for the video 🤗🍃🍂🍁🎃💗✝

My mom gave it to me because I don't have a crepe pan, and I make crepes frequently, but I end up using it for french toast, pancakes, quesadillas, etc. Just because I like the way things crisp up. 😊

My “lie” (or is it truth??) is that we may be facing supply shortages and I need to keep this or that in case we don’t have access to it in the coming few years. Many of these things are unique to our family needs, some are just things that can often run short in stores when there are supply chain issues. What would be the “truth” for that?

I love videos like this ... But! Feel like I'm in a unique situation. Go btw my house (which is just a room in a house) and my folk's house. I can't control/manage both houses, not my job and not realistic. How to find balance. I guess I'll just ask, "what am I really responsible for here?"

What kind of squash was that? I couldn’t quite understand what you said. And what was all on the sandwich, looks delicious

It's a patty pan squash. The sandwich was: patty pan, avocado, tomato and leftover baked salmon. ❤️
