@RancidRiki2 жыл бұрын
A short cardio session of up to 10 minutes with a high-moderate intensity on something like a cross trainer or a rower will work as a warmup because it activates the muscles you may want to train during your warmup while still serving the calorie burning purpose and not being long enough to fully wear you out. Any longer though is when it has the adverse effect
@WilofJ2 жыл бұрын
@jumpar Thats not even a whole workout the process takes Iike 10 to 15 minutes, I don't spend an hour doing this lol.. and I should've clarified, I may do a short jog on the treadmill one day and a 5 to 7 min ab circuit on another, never on the same day... and i'll stretch for about 3 minutes before I start.. Thats all it is

Never had any issues performing 15 minutes of cardio before lifting weights. Was specifically told by a trainer that it loosens up muscles and improves blood-flow. So, not too sure on that one. Was also told eating a meal 30-60 minutes before your workout is better than consuming a protein shake.

I 100% DISAGREE with what he says at 4:30 that "you do not need to stretch at all before your workout". I injured my shoulders multiple times (took 2-6 weeks to recover, couldn't use my arm/workout anymore) when I went to the gym and jumped straight into doing a couple pullups. But ever since I stretch and warm up I never injured myself (6+ years). Even when I was a kid and did Judo 9 years, we always had 30 minutes warmups and lots of dynamic stretches and I never injured myself no matter how hard I was thrown to the ground.
@Cleverpugilist Жыл бұрын
I thought the exact same thing. He is biased towards a weightlifting and strength perspective. He isn’t taking into account that some people workout to focus on cardio, specific sports, weight loss etc. Anecdotally, the only time I’ve been injured is by going straight to the bench press( no where near my max) without stretching.
@SuperPainman14 жыл бұрын

It's true, you lift heavy to break down the muscle tissue to then recover and have it grow. Taking a pain reliever counteracts that.
@krane154 жыл бұрын
@bill lamook Its not the best thing to do regularly. But its OK to do on occasion. Sometimes you may have an unrelated illness or injury that can take your attention away from your workout. A pain reliever would allow you to focus all your attention towards you workout, rather than directing part of your focus towards suppression the pain.

Static stretching is fine to do in a limited manner to help you achieve proper position, if soar and or certain area's are feeling tight. Either for dynamic stretches to warm up and or warming up with the movements you will be working on said day. Its been found to be helpful to static stretch 15-30 seconds per position 2-3 times depending of need. It is not recommend extending the hold positions close to or over the 45sec mark. It could in fact drastically elevate the risk of injury at that point. The study also indicates the subjects were required to rest 3min between each lift. 3min can be a perfectly fine rest period, it is not ideal for everyone. Someone like myself feel much better resting in the 5-6min mark when going to a maximal lift (1RM) Also I was no able to find anywhere in the study when these sessions where taken place, I myself find myself to be stronger/most consistent with my training or maximal lifting in the after/evenings. But I know a few people that prefer and perform better in the mornings. I also didnt find how they got their initial 1rm of the subjects before the test, I hope it was done is a test style manner while being supervised by a professional involved in the study. There was no mention as to if the subjects used any pre-workouts and such, they may not have been allowed any during the study. Which could of skewed the results if some subjects would not used them in one of the categories. Also unfortunately it was a very small test group of 17 subjects, thus making this more of an interesting experiment then anything more concrete. I like to see study's done in the field, but its difficult to take anything from some of these study's, when there are so many variables that are simply not stated and or possibly outright ignored. Edit: Also, how hard is it to link the study's you refer to in the description. Simply lazy work.

Core work is done on another day along with calves and neck. Yes I like my neck muscles to show a little. On alcohol, huge no-no. I saw an older family friend throw up in a bar after drinking some beer earlier that day without hydrating to make up for it. He looked like a sausage machine the way it came out. We had to take him to get an IV after he barfed. Since then I really keep booze in check. Alcohol may seem like a liquid, but it ain't water.

Also it's quite important to mention, that drugs like Ibuprofen are anti-inflammatory-agents. But those (minor) inflammations occurring in the muscles that are put under stress during your workout are crucial for hypertrophy. Not all inflammations are bad, in fact we carry tons of inflammations around every day and they're important for the communication between the muscles and the brain.

Showering after exercise should be an important part of your post-workout routine. It not only gets you clean and protects you from breakouts, but also helps your heart rate and core temperature naturally decrease. Taking a lukewarm or cool shower works best.👍

Just for me: cardio helps me to do my weight lifting sessions actively. I'm not arguing but when I don't do atleast 20 min cardio I don't even feel like lifting and I don't perform well.

@Wasif I speak from first hand experience. Jogging 10 minutes as warm up, I both lift more and get more out of my exercise. Compared to ship warm up and go straight to weight lifting. But agian, I speak about 10 minutes, not 20 minutes.

Update : lately I've been trying to improve my running time. From 2k in 18 mins to 5k in 27 min. After that weight training. I've lost almost 10kg in 3 months. I could run now 1k if only-under 4 mins. To me cardio has helped a lot. Without it I just don't feel like lifting. But again it has helped me. I can't say for others. But I wish all of us at our journey all the very best.

all good stuff! i especially agree with eating and drinking a bunch of water before working out is bad. not only does it use a lot of energy for digestion, but its totally pointless as the food you eat takes a long time before its usuable as fuel. The only item i would push back on is the Cardio. running 5 miles before lifting isn't good, but a quick jog or bike ride before lifting, helps warm the whole body up.

Interesting, I've never heard of not working out your core before other exercises. I've always done some core exercises as a mid-workout type of break before completing the rest of my workout. I can't say I've ever felt weaker after doing core and then bench pressing, squatting, dead lifts, or military press (which are the exercises I usually do after core).

Yes, I agree with these tips and followed these for 30+ years training safely in the gym. I always find some light cardio with full range motion (rowing or cycling) helps wake up the body, your alertness, and warm up your muscles nicely before working with weights. Helps optimise your workout and minimise injury. And I leave abs/core exercised to the end and follow by floor mat stretches.

Water is absorbed in to the blood stream through passive transport via aquaporins according to its concentration gradient. It does not involve any form of active transport that requires blood resources to be allocated to the stomach.
