I think what Debbie means by "normal" is that they're all just sitting around and smiling at her. Just here to say that this is a well known and agreed upon phenomenon in North Africa! It is called the "old lady foreigner", everyone understands that the man is using the "old lady foreigner" for a visa and agrees to it, well, not everyone agrees but it's a well accepted social phenomenon (only for men of course), the idea is that it's okay to use her and give her some "good years in her ending life" so he can establish a better life in Europe or America. I have been suspicious of Oussama from the first episode. I think this next episode is going to show his controlling side. He admits to his own "madness", and it shows in his art. I do believe that his family sees Debbie as a vehicle for Oussama to go to the US and have more opportunities with his art career. It seems he's disinterested in the farm life, and I'd bet they think he is better suited to a life in the states, and this show can get him started with name recognition. That said, Debbie deserves better. Once he gets to the US ( if they marry) I see him trying to connect with the art world to make a name for himself, and leaving her as soon as that green card arrives in the mailbox.

His personality makes him shitty and how he rationalized it but being opportunistic doesn't. Be for real, nearly anyone in his position would make the same moves and do the same thing. He would be a real idiot to not be this way and let whatever talent he has go to waste. Also lets be extremely realistic. I think you're inflating this a bit although your description of his game plan is spot on but it's inflated cause: art market is oversaturated already and you need networking, a lot of hard work with networking and even building a following through social media to be noticed then a lot of extensive time, hard work and resources put towards traveling to exhibitions & any event where he could display his work to be noticed. The show can help with that but it's still going to be a challenge even more so since his English isn't perfect & he has many visual setbacks in his looks like his eyes not being aligned correctly and his poor dental hygiene which is just him being poor over there. America is very looks focused and unless he has a major sob story and can appeal to a demographic which he doesn't & can't, he won't gain any traction. Catching the eye of someone with influence to shout him out is his best bet. Also he needs to grind on Instagram first & network. Follow the art scene on there and gain an understanding of it.

Rose who dated Big Ed did same thing but she was relatively likable, a single mom aka relatable but she was beautiful with some minor flaws that money later fixed. She also was lucky to be in a nation that easily makes stars out of people and celebrates their own so fiercely that even if it's a shitty American dating show to them it's a huge achievement plus she was a damsel then a woman who got celebrated cause she decided to dip & not take Ed abuse. Yet, however, people don't realize that rose, whether she was self aware of it or not, could afford to dip cause has so many factors working for her despite being in poverty & she has a family. She had a solid support system. She also doesn't live in a strict country either. Leaving big Ed wouldn't ever damage her or leave her worse off. Rose blew up in fame after leaving him and everything was handed to her on a silver platter. This girl has already achieved more than the average American or average mid tier American influencer who works mega hard to get noticed.

Also I'm mentioning Rose cause Rose had the same intentions as Oussama but she presented herself better and carried herself fairly well. On purpose or organically, she really came off like a young cinderella who was desperate to give her son a better a life at any means necessary even if it meant technically escorting and being a girlfriend to an old creep who is verbally abusive. Ousamma doesn't have that luxury to psychologically win the fans over by hiding behind a child and being a single father. He is very much a product of his culture & nation, the men seem very frank, straight to the point, blunt, WAY too honest and bold in conveying their information and thoughts verbally. Ousamma has no social skills and doesn't know nor care about the fact that you should at least pretend to be 100% on the side of your sugar mama & not be harsh to them. Ousamma sort of makes it obvious to her that he's trying to secure his future and income through how little caution he takes. Rose was doing the same thing but she bared through a lot like a trooper and didn't directly lay it on Ed that she wanted to gtfo out of her country asap and get citizenship especially for her son.

So basically if he was fake or actually knew social skills and how to get ahead by pretending to be easy to deal with and so into her, his aspirations for USA would be seen in a positive light and not negative. I do think he's controlling and needs to stop. She needs to go home and apologize to her son cause he was right. Rose is now in Australia & dating an old real estate millionaire. She's living a new good life but it's counterproductive to America's values. Basically she's celebrated for sleeping with a nasty creep and putting up with terrible dates until she said enough & left then finding her success but if she were an American girl they would hold her more accountable on knowing what she is doing. Rose chose to still keep engaging older men with money after the horrible Ed experience and she settled with an older white male who could provide for her although she feels nothing for him (she looks at him the same way she looked at Ed tbh) Ousamma and someone like Rose are both users but it's all about intentions then they frame those intentions and present it. Rose family benefits tremendously off of her new life as well. Rose just didn't date someone crazy old. Ed was way older than her but not like 70 or something. I just think if Ousamma was fake or had some better background his scheme would be looked at differently.

As a person married to a Moroccan man it hurts my heart when so many others always jump to the “he’s using me for a ticket to the states” or anything like that. Moroccan people are some of the kindest and most hospitable people in the world and if you’re lucky enough to experience this it will be the best thing ever.
