I watched as a kid in the 90ies, and I actually remember it as a horror that pretends being a nice fairy tale for children. I was creeped out for years, thought all the monsters from the show, would emerge at night. The worst thing about them, was that in the show, monsters could casually grow from soil in seconds, or dead objects of similar shape could change into them. I could panic if I saw something that had one of monsters from moomins shape, fir that reason, and it was shown there they could kill you.

For all of you who didn’t grow up in Finland with moomin or Tove Jansson(the Mumin author) Moomin and all of the characters are based on people in Tove’s life, Moomin being her self portrait. So for those believing moomin to have a crush on Snufkin, you are absolutely right sir. Snufkin is based on one of her lovers, even husband I think. In the same way, Too-ticky was based on one of her same sex lovers. Tove was a brave woman, who dared to have love relationships in a time where homosexuality was considered a sickness. I might have gotten some facts wrong, but Moominvalley is a portrait of her own life, some characters describing her relationships and affairs, look it up, Tove was an amazing woman

But other than that, yeah, Moomintroll’s relationships with the Snorkmaiden and Snufkin are an unsubtle but kid’s book friendly metaphor for her own bisexuality. I read once that there’s a line in one of the books where the Snorkmaiden makes it clear that she has no problem ‘sharing’ Moomintroll with Snufkin.

To anyone wondering wtf this is: Moomins is a Finnish show animated in Japan (so _technically_ an anime) and basically every Finnish kids' childhood. (Tho' also broadcasted in others countries. Mostly in the Nordic countries) The English dub kinda sucks (I am biased obviously, having grown up with the Finnish dub) so I recommend searching up the Finnish dub with subtitles. (Or go with whatever dub you find.) It's for children (and damn it's wholesome) but the original books written (by Tove Jansson, 1914-2001) 50 years ago weren't for kids exactly. (Drinking & adult jokes an' shit.)
