Some of the 90's albums in my vinyl collection. These are all originals, acquired back when a lot of people were getting rid of their records. Also, I show the most 90's thing I own.

Robert, I have to say that you have literally become my favorite KZbinr! I found your channel a couple of weeks ago, and I have your videos on constantly when I’m relaxing. I told my wife your videos feel like hanging out with a good buddy! Thank you so much for all of the hard work you put into these videos. Hope you keep on making them for a very long time! Would love if you started doing lives again, but I know you already put in a ton of time on your videos. Anyway, hope you’re doing well and have a great weekend!!

About three or four years ago I happened to be at my local record store right after someone dumped their 90's original vinyl collection. I got Superunknown on blue vinyl (noticed you had the orange), In Utero on clear vinyl, and STP Purple on purple vinyl as well. Also Tool Aenime, NIN Downward Spiral, and Green Day Kerplunk. All mint condition. I've also picked up random OGs in the wild - Foo Fighters first record, STP Core, RHCP Mother's Milk and Blood Sugar Sex Magik, and Fugazi Steady Diet of Nothing. 90's vinyl is my favorite to collect for the exact reason you mention, everyone (including me) was buying CDs at the time so second hand vinyl is extremely hard to come by. I got suckered into the whole CD thing in the 90s and now I'm trying to make up for it.

Enjoyed seeing those 90’s records. Yes, I was one of those that unfortunately purged a lot of vinyl at the time to be replaced by compact discs. Now, like so many, I try to do the opposite and dump the CDs for vinyl LOL! Actually I don’t remember buying much vinyl during the 90s unless it was something that was unavailable on compact disc. Most of the 90s vinyl in my collection now was purchased second hand from a guy selling discarded radio station stock! I got it pretty cheap because I think he just wanted some fast cash. Heck! It might have been stolen! Anyway, thanks for sharing your 90’s records.

I didn't have a great turntable as a kid/teenager nor did I know how to align and set up a cart/stylus, so CDs were a revelation. I still bought used records in the 90s/college years, but all new albums I bought on CD. However when Pearl Jam's Vitalogy came out a few weeks early on vinyl, I picked it up. I still have the original pressing from 1994.

Same here. As a teenager I knew nothing about alignment and anti-skate, etc.

Another enjoyable video, impressive stack for the 90's. I have a few original pressings including Tori Amos - From The Choirgirl Hotel, Weezer - Pinkerton, Soul Asylum - Let Your Dim Light Shine - KMFDM - Nihil & Nirvana - Nevermind (German)

I grew up in the 90’s listening to that stuff. But my local music store only had cds and cassettes. I didn’t start getting vinyl till the late 90’s when I got into punk.

I don't have a lot of 90s vinyl, but since I've always had a turntable if I came across something over the years in a record store and it was an album I liked and the price was right, I'd snag it. When I started putting my collection into Discogs, I realized I wish I had kept a better look out back before vinyl blew up. I have REM Out of Time, still with the $1.99 price tag on it from 2001 I believe. Huge ROI on that one. I also bought VS on LP brand new when it came out just because I really liked that album. I still have never opened it since I have it on CD as well. I've got Damn Yankees first album, Rush, Roll The Bones. Can't think of anything else right now. Every now and then I'll look a 90s album up on Discogs thinking it would be nice to have it on vinyl and I'm usually disuaded by the prices. Just one of the many reasons I can't wait to get back out to record stores!

Therapy? are indeed great and still going. Troublegum is their best album and it's just about to be reissued on vinyl for the first time since 1994 too. Oh and the frontman went to my school!

Wow ! LP's from the CD era, lots of problems with that but they are amazing to have, very hard to get though. I have a few but mostly CD's of course, my favorite decade for sure.

Very good topic, great video! I see some of my friends now buying their favorite albums of that decade on vinyl, but I'm not a fan of these reissues. I mean they were perfectly fine on CD for 20-25 years and now suddenly I have to own it on vinyl? But that said, I see a special value (not necessarily financial) in an original pressing from 199X. It is something like a rare relic, the oddball version. That can not be reproduced on a reissue. That's what makes this video special.
@RobertFithen
@RobertFithen 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks!! I've only been disappointed by 90's re-issues. Plus, you have the problem of cd album length trying to fit onto LP's. These were considered novelty items back in the 90's. Glad I held on to them!

Do you have Thunder's 'Back Street Symphony' or either of Little Angels first albums; Don't Pray for Me & Young Gods? All from the early 90's (I think). Both great British rock bands from that era that I fully expected to be absolutely huge, before Grunge came along and everything changed... I was always curious if they 'cracked' the States or not.
@RobertFithen

I have Thunder on CD. Yes, grunge knocked bands with sounds like that out of the picture. Some of them were really good.

I think most interesting 90s albums on vinyl is that one that was released in 1994-1999 period there vinyl was dead. In 1991-1993 there was still many releases but 1994 was like year of mass stop of producing vinyl discs and after this date only limited releases exist

It just always looked so good in the shrink wrap. I've heard other Tool albums on vinyl and haven't been impressed by the way they sound. So I left this one in the shrink, but the wrap was coming apart so it was time to open it.

l know it wasnt quite the 90s 89 more of if but worth alot janet jackson rythm nation and new kids my daughter was into all on vynil i think there worth more because cds were the thing 33s going out i kinda miss the bmg record club got lots of albums from them back in the day i remember the line is your refrigerator running? then go catcht it prank calls in the 70s
@RobertFithen
@RobertFithen 4 жыл бұрын
Those record clubs kept a lot of formats, like vinyl and open reel, going after other retailers had pulled the plug. Rhythm Nation vinyl, I think, was actually special, because it didn't have the interludes that the cd and cassette had.

put me down for they are Grunge posers then and now. Or Post-grunge as the kids call it. Jim Thirwell (Foetus ) is considered on the major influences on the Industrial that hit the mainstream, Ministry and NIN, those hardcore goth chicks with 14 earrings consider him legit. :)
