The 90’s were packed full of ground breaking rock albums, many of which dominated the charts after Nirvana’s Nevermind broke open the flood gates. In this video we call out ten albums from that era that we consider to be “must own” records in your collection. Maybe an album you forgot about, or one that’s been overshadowed a bit. Tune-in to check out our picks.
✶ Talking About Records is presented by NTX Vinyl, a boutique vinyl record shop in Highland Village, Texas (2240 Justin Rd, 75077 - located inside Painted Tree Marketplace). Open 10am-8pm, 7 days a week ✶

Thoroughly enjoyed watching this. Definitely hard to whittle it to a list of 10 from all the great records released in the 90's. Great picks...especially "Grace" that record is timeless.

It sucks that when these came out, vinyl was all but gone. Finding these on vinyl back then was a chore. I was going to record conventions since 89, and still couldn't find a lot of these

An underrated record from the 90s that I love and still holds up today is Satchel’s “The Family”. That record was produced by Stone Gossard.

Glad to see FNM KFAD pop up in this list! Filter, yep. Mad Season perhaps has aged the best aside from RHCP?

A cool list..👍I was wondering if A.I.C. would be represented and I wasn't disappointed.believe it or not after MANY years of collecting I've just gotten around to trying to price my collection (who knows, what the future may bring).just wanted some record left for my family who don't really realize or care much😁so to avoid my daughter selling my Mad Season for $15 after I'm gone I tagged each one.your Discogs videos helped immensely

I was managing a CD store at the time. The reps would give me all the vinyl promos cause No one wanted them or had a turntable- I got Hey Man Nice Shot and Dose and a Korn yellow vinyl promo on 12inch. Never found the full vinyl Short Bus till recently

That Chili Peppers album was more than just a great alternative album. It was one of my all time favorites across all genres. I had that in equal rotation along with my Black Crows, ZZ Top, AC/DC, and Pantera. The Chili Peppers were at a peak musically but also the sound and production on that album is some of the all time best in the history of popular music. I was hoping Screaming Trees would make your list. They weren't really on most of my friend's radar but I had them in heavy rotation for a while. You did mention them at least. Days of the New was also another big one for me and I still listen to it on occasion.

@@NTXVinyl I'll bet it was hard to narrow it down to 10. When people say alternative or grunge my mind usually goes to the early 90s, but the later 90s stuff like Days of the New is some of my favorite.

Great picks!! Love you included Filter I listened to that album for almost a month straight when it came out and love Mad Season there is a big story behind that album you should look up one of my favourite songs was Long Gone Day with Mark Lanegean singing on it him an Layne wrote the song together Layne wrote a line then handed paper to Mark to write a line. Also Layne an Mark were such good friends they split the royalties with him just to help him out..have you heard Marks 1st solo album The Winding Sheet? It's awesome you should check it out.. Great video!!!

Very US based list, a UK list of alternative 90s must haves would be very different. I find it highly interesting to think about how 2 cultures who shared so much in common with musical tastes and trends from late 50s to 70s suddenly after that became so different. I blame hair metal, the US went crazy for it and the UK said, nope......we've never been on the same path since.🤣
@NTXVinyl

absolutely! I only know what I know. What would be some comparable releases in the UK in this era? I'm curious!

What About Bush, Oasis, Elastica, The Verve. There were a few that made a dent in the US market and are considered classics of the era.

@@NTXVinyl wow, last record with John Frusainte who hit his peak on this album. Double Album masterpiece like Physical Graffiti, Beatles White Album, Exile on Main Street. I agree all the stuff after with Josh on guitar really wasn’t that great. Listen to Wet Sand again and tell me that’s not a great tune. Blood, Californication and Staduim are all great. I consider Stadium the second to last great rock record released. Only Van Halen’s A Different Kind of Truth is better IMO this century.
