You can never tell what depth you're going to catch Crappie. I remember years ago I would get off work and stop by my local lake and fish off the fishing pier with a bunch of regulars. One day I got there and asked about the bite and nobody was catching anything. We were mostly tight lining jigs off the side up next to the pilings. I found a spot and noticed that everyone was fishing about 3 to 4 ft deep like normal. I started out that way and no bites. Then, I happened to drop my jig down and wanted to see if it was sitting right in the water, so kept it about 6 inches below the surface so I could see it. All the sudden, I see a flash of silver... Well, I started holding my jig at about 8-12 inches deep and soon filled my bucket with fish while all my buddies were staring at me, asking me what color I was using, and amazed that I was catching fish. After I got my limit, I grinned and started to leave and said, "See y'all tomorrow!" But as I went by my closest bud, I whispered to him to try fishing just where he couldn't see the jig - about 8-10 inches deep. As I walked off the pier, I heard the familiar splash and when I got in my truck, he was landing his third Crappie. Goes to show you, they don't feed down, they feed up.

You should be on the water near Boca chica before 8:30 CT. On April 20th Just have your camera set to record the Starship launch in the background for one of the biggest launches in history. A couple nice crappie would finish that video off nicely!

Well you can use slip cork and minnow, slip cork and jig, and or wading for crappie. You can also cast out, but wouldn’t recommend it, because would probably get hung up a lot without a cork. Thanks for watching! God bless!
