"You've got to stand tall when it comes down to the wire. You've got to play rough when you cross the line of fire. You've got to have guts to stand for your rights. You've got to keep a grip and hold on tight. You've got to do the fighting with all of your might. You've got to keep the target straight ahead of your sight!" Wow, how many kids today would benefit from that kind of testicular fortitude to stand up for what is right and help people? Kids today do not know what motivation is all about.

I was exposed to this theme song through the four player arcade game based upon this that Konami came out with in 1992. I never watched the G.I. Joe cartoon, but one time I was playing arcade games through MAME on my old computer, and one of them was the G.I. Joe arcade game. When I started the game up, the music in the first stage of the level was a partially instrumental version of this theme song, where, like at the beginning after that flourish, there was that, "GOT TO GET TOUGH, YO JOE! GOT TO GET TOUGH, YO JOE!" Really got my adrenaline going.

Well for all the people who hate the DIC version, keep in mind that Sunbow fucked it up by bringing Serpentor in so DIC had a hard time trying to fix their fuck up. Second, while I'll agree that this GI Joe was not as good as Sunbow's, this is a far better intro with better music than 80s Joe, I don't care how nostalgic you are. Third, the GI Joe arcade game based on the DIC series, was fucking awesome.

Animation studio DIC contacted Hasbro and bid for a new lease on G.I. Joe. On a tighter budget and using less expensive animation studios in Korea, DIC produced a new mini-series for 1989, as well as two seasons (Seasons 3 and 4) for the '90-'91 and '91-'92 broadcast years. G.I. Joe reruns, including the DIC episodes, along with the previous series episodes from Sunbow/Marvel, appeared on the USA cable network for a few years from 1992 until fall 1996, and seemingly faded away.
