You can get some pretty rad results from them. I've used their mixing desks for years.

I was getting ready to scream at you haha You may like the results of the (maxed) HM300 into another distortion pedal or preferably solid state amp, it stacks even more distortion, but we're going for insane levels here. Also, you don't necessarily have to max the dist and level, just the EQ knobs. Of course, you can also get cool results with other eq too, it's just not what this pedal is famous for. Also, it's Swedish death metal, not so much melodic death metal, though At the Gates famously used it on Slaughter of the Soul to boost a Metal Zone, which was doing most of the distortion

Next week is pairing the HM300 into the Gehenna pedal. I think melodic Death Metal as Swedish Death metal as that is where I first experienced the sounds, but you are correct.

@@metalprognosis Melodeath started in Sweden too, but this is the less melodic side haha Entombed, Nihilist, Dismember, etc. looking forward to seeing how it works with the Gehenna!

Awesome! I'm happy you got something out of this video. The guitar is an Orsmby guitar from Australia, it's an awesome guitar!

I do think you should have lowered the bass some, possibly bring out the mids a bit more for clarity. The earlier bands that used that also used the peavey bandit. Ola England did a learn video of a Testament song from the gathering, he learned that the rhythm guitarist just plugged straight into the Mesa, no boost.

I love that Album so much! I will have to look up Ola's video on that.

As a HM2 guy, here are the three secrets, dime the pedal (yes, even the gain), run it into a ACDC/mid gain JMC800 type gained amp, do NOT use Vintage 30s, gotta use something like a t75 or Greenback since they are more mid scooped. Do not use a clean amp as it will not chainsaw without gain into gain. Gotta be able to accept insane amounts of noise using the saw or have a Boss NS2 handy. Also, the HM300 is 1:1 with the genuine article. Just gotta remember to run it into a dirty amp.

Thank you for that run down. I only have one other speaker that isn't a V30 on my Fender Hotrod... Not sure that would do the cut... I'll see if I can borrow one and try your approach. Sounds like it will be fun! Or I might run an IR of a greenback...
@riffsnoleads
@riffsnoleads 8 ай бұрын
@@metalprognosis I mean, a V30 will do okay. Just cut the mids on your amp to compensate, but a greeny is definitely what you're looking for. Left Hand Path was done with a Peavey Bandit and the Scorpion speaker in the Bandit is similar(ish) to a greeny

I listen de HM300 more in stoner doom than metal

These days I think you are correct. But in 90's, the Metal Zone by Boss was largely used on bands first and second albums mainly I'm guessing because it was cheep... And many amazing songs were recorded with it. The HM300 is a clone of the Boss Metal Zone. That is my connection with the HM300, in metal history.

The HM2 is the Heavy Metal pedal, the MT 2 was the metal zone, Behringer's clone is the UM300

It has a unique taste I personally don't prefer over modern tones. Even classic albums I love that use this sound, I can't summit to their choice in tone.
