@@kirishimasawmill Well all I can say is that you're doing a fantastic job as the camera man or maybe woman. The result is very crisp and other than the fact that the main purpose is filming the log being cut onto slabs, you manage to wander around between pauses showing us all all the rest that's going on in a free flowing continuity and with grace.

Regardless of where this mill is, i am surprised to see just two people operating it. The other thing that took me by surprise is the different woods they manage to get their hands on. I have a ready library of timeds and so far they have cut up four trees i have never seen or heard of, and they are not in the books. I have to admit that its one of those mills that i would love to visit for a day, they make the job look easy, when one only has to look at the slabs thet take off, they must be a good six to eight inches thick, and goodness knows what length, a good video, well worth watching.

A long time ago I was a sawmill engineer ,so I always find it fascinating to see the same methods of breaking down large logs in different countries. Where I worked we were cutting logs bigger than that but were almost 1000 years old .The timber was worth an absolute fortune with no price restrictions on it . We ran a twin blade head rig before changing to a 9' band saw. See the band saw here doesn't have cooling water.

Nice medium sized log. Put a strap and trolley on the out-feed side. You will be able to cut the whole slab in one pass. Your throughput will also be much higher since you won't have to mess with the chain saw and the extra back and forth carriage travels to break the slab free from the cant.

Cut many large US elms in the 60s. Dutch elm disease. Now few US sawmills want large trees and certainly not the lower bole. Machines not set up for it, I guess. Utilitarian not aesthetic. I like the beauty.
