“It was consensual, I just had my ways of convincing them.”
On April 21, 2003, a day before her 17th birthday, Amanda accepts a ride from her friend's dad after her work shift ends, not knowing this decision would cost her freedom for the next 10 years. Between 2002 and 2004, the neighbourhood bus driver, Ariel Castro, kidnapped three of his daughter’s friends: Michelle Knight, Amanda Berry and Georgina ‘Gina’ DeJesus. Amanda and the girls are chained and tortured in the Cleveland House of Horrors, blocks away from her own mother, up until her young daughter born in captivity dares to ask a question that would ultimately lead to their escape, and end their decade-long nightmare.

Amen to this post... I genuinely think all humans should have "term limits" for their occupations in general (some vanguards are needed to teach new trainees)... What do I mean? People become infected with apathy in most cases when remaining in a single occupation. It is only human for one to become "routine" and robotic in their job. Here... When your job demands genuine empathy to serve your purpose and NOT hurt others= you must never become empathy-dumb.

Oh no worries, that monster didn't escape ANYTHING. Yeah he's a coward, but if he had known where he'd end up after taking what he obviously thought was the easy way out, he would've tried to stay alive as long as he could. Because now he is in Hell, being put through everything he put those poor girls through, only much, MUCH worse. I can't explain it on this site, but suffice to say, not in his wildest nightmares would he have been prepared or expected the future he had after death. It's beyond imagination, the real horrors of Hell... Where he is now, and he will never get out.

The diaries were not necessary to lock him up for life; the diaries held him to account for 977 separate counts that could be dated and described. If not for the diaries these have been a summary using estimates, which is common for cases of extensive abuse over a long period of time, but it is far more powerful to bring each incident, to show the jury the extensive notes of abuse, abuse, abuse, abuse, abuse...

Honestly makes me livid the 911 operators behaved this way. We are constantly urged NOT to hang up with 911 until help arrives on scene and that dude couldn’t get her off the phone fast enough. I hope both he and the operator that the gentleman who helped her talked to got fired, or at the very least some training on the FIRST things that are expected of them in their duties. Side note: I know Sylvia Brown has proven to be full of poop, but it makes me sad that she was kind of right about one thing. Not that Amanda was dead but that they wouldn’t see each other again in this life, only in heaven. That her mother would be gone before she could lovingly hold her in her arms for every second she fought to bring her little girl home.

People dont respond like that to a 911 call u less they just straight up dont care... Horrible... Peoplle who do this kind of job should have a legal responsibility to do what they can to help save someone... If they refuse to help then that could automatically lead to death or anything of that nature.... They all responsible for saving people's lives so they should face legal consequences for refusing to save someones life since its obviously their duty.. its like a pledge... Same one that ems takes when taking a job as first responders in ambulance.. they need to do whatever it takes to save a life.. if they refuse that like manslaughter... Honestly I heard about all three in the beginning but then it was just the two younger ones (Amanda and that other girl) but i mostly heard about Amanda since she was the one who escaped and made the calll, all the while of lugging her daughter with her. I honestly think that Castro had forgotten to shut the door and lock it by mistake or he had a lapse in judgement and felt confident enough that the girls wouldn't try escaping. But lol they did. Michelle, the oldest of the three girls, was kidnapped first and she was literally treated like shit. When she was became pregnant, Ariel Castro literally beat her to so she would miscarry then he got her a puppy and when the puppy tried protecting her, he killed it (By breaking it's neck if i remember correctly). And like the other commenter said, Amanda was like the favorite cause he allowed Amanda to give birth and he would turn the girls against each other.

I used to be such a giant Sylvia Browne fan, I can't believe what a catfish she turned out to be.

Thank God that neighbour was home to help her get that door open before the owner came back home

Amanda Berry, you are an inspiration. From the horrors that you suffered - you now are doing something amazing! What an amazing, strong, courageous, beautiful woman you are. I wish you and your daughter all the success and happiness in your life.

This man repeatedly violently abused his wife and the police failed to follow up on the reports. His wife then died from a brain bleed certainly caused by the injuries Castro inflicted and he was never investigated or punished. One incredibly brave young woman who had been missing for 10 years screamed and fought her way out of that house, was terrified that help would get there too late, and the dispatcher hung up on her. And then police wonder why the public don't trust them. Despite was Castro may want people to believe he absolutely is a monster. He didn't believe he was sick otherwise he would have gotten help, that's what sick people do. I hope his ex-sister-in-law and her family are doing well and being able to give that public voice to his actions gave them some closure, and I hope every one of those women he kept looked up and tortured for all those years are also doing well now. I can't imagine ever surviving something like that.

I love it when he tells Anderson Cooper that,"...Now we're both dealing with 911. She's talking with a moron and me too".

Give it up for Charles Ramsey. What a very kind, heroic, and empathetic guy. I don’t mean to but him going “Now we both calling 911. She’s dealing with a moron. Im dealing with a moron” did make me laugh. But he is right. That dispatcher was terrible and I hope he got fired. Moron isn’t even the right word to describe that guy. Geeze
