"talk to the police once they get there" he said that twice! then she said, "are you sending someone?" that damn dispatch said, "ill send someone as soon as we have a car available"!!! WTF!!! She said "I need someone now before he returns" like that guy could have easily came back and found her and killed her or killed the other girls in the house once he found her missing... how are you not going to ask any questions at all to the poor frightened young lady who is asking for help. I'm just so shocked 😲 how do they let these people work there? 🙄 they clearly do not give a fuck and you CAN NOT have that kind of attitude when you have someone's life in ur hands like that! So three women disappeared in the same area, police tracked his phone to this area, the victims all knew him or his daughter, one was last seen with his daughter, he boarded up all the windows of his house and played loud music all the time to drown out screams. It’s unbelievable that no one, detectives or neighbors, ever made the connection. He wasn’t even clever about it. Seems like gross incompetence on the police's part, honestly.

Everytime we had a playdate we had to stay at the school until his teacher mom was off from her last class and then all 3 of us would bike to their house because she didn't want her son to do the ride home alone... Then after dinner when it was time for me to go home in the dark of night She would just send me off on my own... It didn't bother me that much, but I always wondered why she considered it safe for me to ride home alone at night when she wouldn't allow her son to ride home with a friend in the afternoon... She obviously cared more for her son than me I guess. LOL

I remember a high school experience: I was probably a junior or senior so 16-18 years old. I got a ride to a party with a girl from my school because we lived like 5-8 minutes from each other and she drove. She offered me a ride home since our curfew was midnight or so… well we ended up being a little late and rather than ask her mom for an extra 10 min or face the consequences, she let me walk home alone in the fall in the dark. Due to the angled streets and commercial lots in the area, I had to walk about 30 min. I seriously felt so betrayed and nothing even happened to me.

the police failed them so horribly. the police questioned the step father and he told them they should really be questioning ariel. Ariel had a history of abuse and he had connects to all three girls through his daughters. people had reported his house multiple times and they traced the call to somewhere in the block he lived in. the fact that police couldn't connect the dots is horrifying. they failed those poor girls miserably. I hope they're all doing okay now and they won't let anything stop them because they are so strong and courageous xxx

Actually there are tons of runaway kids. Its very common, even in this case we see it. Michelle was a runaway kid when she was a kid. I'm not saying cops uncorcerned behaviour is accaptable but fortunately this kind of disasters are very rare compared to the runaway kids.

I've always had a bit of sadness when thinking of Michelle ... she was in the hospital after her rescue and witnessed the others having visits with their families and so forth...she was always alone...treated so much worse for that decade and then when freed she was alone again...life was not kind to any of those girls, but Michelle especially faced a dark dark world having no one looking for her...no one crying out for her to be found...and a cruel man that shoved it in her face at every opportunity. My sincere best wishes for all three girls...may they find a life worth living and a future full of hope.

This case is so sad. The police failed these women over and over again. Casting them as runaways, disregarding the neighbors calls years before, the fbi not following the lead given by the step dad, dropping the charges from that boy he verbally assaulted on the school bus, all the way down to the very seconds leading up to the girls being found. They didnt even believe the calls 😒 by saying "it might be true" once seeing Amanda. It took the cop seeing her to actually believe her & start taking her serious...sigh. Even the dispatchers were all awful. No urgency, no care, no comforting words, didnt even try to get information from the victim...just "talk to the officer when he gets there", the operator couldn't be bothered with details because she didn't believe her. It made me cry for them and I felt sick to my stomach how so many ppl in the police department failed them over and over and over again. I hope Michelle continues to heal and see that she's seen as a hero and for always staying true to herself, saving the bby girl and staying strong. Although they don't talk to Michelle, she was the reason they survived, especially Amanda. Michelle took the beatings, while Amanda played nice and survived and had her baby because of Michelle. It was all twisted and they did what they had to to survive. It really does sound like Michelle never gave in, Gina stayed hopeful and Amanda literally played along until she saw an opportunity to escape and in a way saved Michelle's life as well. I hope they all get released from that mental trap they obviously still have.

3 miles from me. Shortly after being rescued, I served Amanda and her daughter along with some friends when I was 16-17. They were church friends with my manager, and felt safe coming to eat there. My manager wanted to comp their bill- and Amanda insisted she didn’t want that- she didn’t want special treatment. One of my other tables ended up paying for them all- and she couldn’t have been more gracious, yet also kind of embarrassed which I could understand. Amanda had been on local Fox 8 news doing the “missing” segment for 10 years now. I wish all of them the very best.

Reminds me of this case in Canada where a woman filed a missing person report for her daughter, and after a while the police just quietly removed her from the missing person list, and when the mother found out she confronted them about this and they put her back on. No reason ever given. So sad that family members and people close to those who went missing have to fight so hard like this.

Especially when it's that serious and specific, "I've been kidnapped and missing for 10 years" isn't what you'd usually think of to prank 911. The calls with some kid talking completely calmly with a "watch this I'm so cool and funny" tone of voice are the ones they should ask themselves "is this a prank?" for. I've heard real prank calls to 911 and I could immediately tell from their voice that they weren't panicking as much as they would be if they were in a real situation.

Michelle's case breaks my heart. She was abused all her life, raped and became pregnant but kept the baby, then through no fault of her own lost custody, and as soon as she was trying to get him back, she was kidnapped and lost the opportunity forever. And to make it worse imo, not only was her family not actively looking for her, which obviously would be absolutely heartbreaking, her abducter not only rubbed it in and taunted her, but she had to sit and watch while the other two girls' parents continued to search for her. I'm sure she was happy for them, but it must've stung. AND she became pregnant 5-6 more times, and Castro beat her until she miscarried, and then when one of the other girls became pregnant, she kept the baby? Now, maybe Michelle didn't wouldn't have wanted the father of her child to be her abductor (because fucking duh), and maybe she was glad she didn't remain pregnant, but now she's infertile. And what if she wanted to keep the baby? Either way, she was forced to have 5-6 abortions, and then when Amanda became pregnant, she helped deliver the baby. I imagine that would fuck with your head too, and probably fed into the feeling that she again was all alone, and that no one cared about her. Not saying Amanda wanted to be pregnant, or that it was at all her fault, or that being forced to have your captors child as a result of r4pe is better than being forced to abort it. And now that they're free, Michelle STILL can't regain custody of her son, and from the sounds of it, she doesn't get to visit him either. The adoptive parents send pictures and updates, but I cannot begin to imagine how soul-crushing that is. Then, she was also in a room all by herself while the other two shared a room. She was constantly alone. Then for the two other girls to continue to be friends with each other but not her? We really don't know what happened there. Maybe their personalities just didn't match. I'm a 911 dispatcher and if I was running the dispatch center where that dispatcher told that girl, "we'll send you a car as soon as one opens," I would fire her ON THE SPOT!!!! The rule is if there's an active crime at the time of the 911 call, and it's considered a deadly situation or the caller is in serious danger, you send officers now and code 3!!! For those of you who don't know, code 3 means lights and sirens. She CLEARLY told her she was kidnapped for 10 years and she got away, that sounds like a pretty dangerous situation to me!! It depends if any there are any active units patrolling. My town has very limited officers both city and sheriffs. Gangs used to call 911 for shootings all over my city spreading the police very thin, and then they do the actual shooting miles away from where they called. No patrols were able to go to the actual 911 shooting calls because they were investigating another fake 911 shooting call. These things actual happen, and there’s nothing the operator can do. State troopers normally responds, if there is a active unit that’s nearby, otherwise they do not respond. Other agencies do not respond to any form of 911 call because there’s no direct way to contact them.

People should be mad at how the law is made. Plea deals should not exist in many cases, where psychology should be considered. His thing was control over others in an extreme form, not only that, he only chose people who were easier to handle (females). Having the possibility of a plea deal, which is the last form of control you can offer a monster is insane. He spent his whole life trying to control others in extreme ways; when you had the opportunity to show him how much of a bxtch life can be, the 'law' opted for giving him control over his own end and that shxt is just revolting. The vast majority of monsters who accept plea deals only do it because they are absolutely scared shxtless to be controlled in any way as they know how much that influences a person's life. They accept plea deals, avoid death only to cause it when they want - that is rarely related regret, it's the last form of control they have and the last fucc you.

It's not that simple... No judge would sign a search warrant for so many houses, just on the base of a cellphone call. They couldn't even be sure he lived there. You probably wouldn't want your rights violated, meaning your house searched, as a resident in that area, either. I think they probably could have done more than just stake the area out, though... Like knock on doors, ask around, maybe go public and ask for people's help. Either to actually get some clues from people or just to scare that guy into doing something stupid and revealing himself. There seem to have been a ton of oversights though, especially considering the abductor's track record... Definitely not the finest police work.

And they'd have to force it, and surprise people with the search, or it wouldn't be effective. You might get surprised at the most inconvenient time. So you're in the shower right now? Welp, breaking your door down! And they don't pay for a new one. Then there's also the matter of organizing that search. You can't do it house by house, or neighbors would wise up to it, and they might not even have enough officers to do it all at once... That being said, a search was unnecessary. If someone at the police had put in the work and screened the people that live within those 4 blocks they found, I think they probably had enough to at least give the abductor a very, very close look, and they didn't even do that...

@@1mol831 having been raised in NE Ohio, yeah, that's accurate. A lot of people in Cleveland are black. My only problem is its not that black people are brave. Its just what you we're raised in. If you put a black and a white man in the same situations they'd respond very similarly. It’s so disgusting how the police just brushed all the disappearances off as runaways. It happens way too often. Even if someone has run away from home, it indicates a problem. They could come from an abusive house, be running away with an abusive partner, need mental help, any number of issues. It could also be a missing persons case disguised as a runaway or the runaway could have ended up somewhere unsafe.

I've seen countless crimes online before, but I'd NEVER been so angry, disgusted, and heartbroken about a story like this. This man is absolutely true evil, as everything he did was cold and calculated. It’s a relief he was finally caught and put in jail forever, and he felt a fraction of what his victims went through. I feel so bad for michelle. I actually teared up listening to her interview and after watching this video. People always assume, she has been treated like that her whole life and even after kidnapped people still wouldn't give a damn. I also hate the fact that she tried to protect the gina from getting assaulted and resulting her getting more beating but she didn't kept in contact w her in the end. She suffered the most, TERRIBLE and the worst treatment out of all three and she was still able to help others. She's one hella strong of a woman and the fact that she still is able to "forgive and move on" is simply so powerful. I also hate the fact that michelle is not even allowed to meet her child joey. It feels so bad man. I hope she manages to get all the happiness in her life right now. May god bless her and the other victims. After being told that the female had said she’s been kidnapped and missing for 10 years, then to have the operator ask if she needed an ambulance was infuriating. God damn of course she needs an ambulance that should have been a given. Some 911 operators ask the most ridiculous questions and sometimes even make the situation worse. I get that they need to ask certain questions but If someone is calling 911 95% of the time it’s a real emergency and at times asking all those questions can slow the process down but with something like this their focus should be getting the victim to safety and only then should they ask all the questions they need answers to.

Michelle is the odd one out in basically every way. She was the first to be kidnapped, the one treated the worst, the only one not searched for and still the one Speaking up to Castro. She defended the others from Sexual assault despite being the biggest victim herself and she was not only the only one to being forced into miscarriage, but was forced into miscarriage 4 to 5 times in a row. Then after of all she was the one almost dying from an Illness afterwards and got saved just Days before her Death. She was the only one Attending court and the only one Publicly speaking out. Wow. Just wow. That's a lot of only ones. What a Strong Person holy shit. Seems almost unrealistic. In a Fictional Story she would be the Main Character. Sadly it's not Fictional...

I've seen a number of interviews with Michelle, she is very believable & intelligent. For some unknown reason (possible Castro brainwashing) both Amanda & Gina were hostile to Michelle after the escape. They also didn't go to Castro's trial only Michelle. Amanda didn't mention in the emergency call that Michelle was captive too.
