you can tell its the gearbox and not a supercharger because the sound keep increasing in pitch with every gear shift, rather than dropping back down to a lower pitch as the RPMs drop

This is due to the engine design and other features such as the supercharger. But theoretically it is not a supercharger. The sound comes from the naturally aspirated engine. Generally this popular sound that has been heard since 2013 with the RSR GTE-Pro sounds like this due to the gear shifting.
