Yes Mike cultured stone. Wirelath over PLYWOOD that iscovered with builders felt nail lath every 4 inches square scratch coat w mortar wire thickness. Lay out your stone on ground lick em and stick em after you butter up the back a little wiggle will help stone stick (suction) strike joints and brush. Keep joints equal but not too wide. You will figure it out

If you remove every other tine on the landscape rake it becomes very useful for maintaining gravel driveways. A couple of passes loosens the top layer of rock and evens it out, a quick pass with a heavy roller (I made mine from two old air compressor tanks filled with concrete) and it looks like new.

Take the concrete the full length of the building. That way you have a nice pad outside to wash vehicles or do maintenance outside on a pretty day. I wish my garage had an extension of the concrete since the inside has turned into storage/gym/game room. You won't regret it !!

I've used a few of those cultured stone products, if you get direct sun light on them they will fade to cement color in a couple of years. They may have a U.V. spray that might let them hold color a little longer. Keep that in mind with your choice of product you want to use. Keep up the great content, love the channel. Love your videos. For your stone veneer, I would suggest real stone. They process it so that it's uniformly about 1 1/2" thick. It's natural stone, so the color is all the way through it. With "cultured" stone you have to hide your cuts because the cut edge is concrete. The natural stone never fades or discolors. It's easy to cut with a diamond blade on your circular saw. You don't have a lot of square footage, so it wouldn't be terribly expensive. I've been building for 40+ years, and that's the product I always recommend. Some of that local Bluestone would be nice on your patio floor. 😉 The playhouse is looking great!

If you wanted a brick wainscot that’s simple check out Nova brick. Easy install, no mortar. Do it yourself friendly and a lot cheaper than versetta stone. Lots of pole buildings and houses use it but it has kinda fallen out of favor for the stone look. It’s probably the most durable one out there.

No suggestions on the stone, but on your hillside, I would recommend dragging your landscape rake horizontally right before you seed. When it rains, that will prevent a lot of wash out.

Randy, I have one of those rakes and I believe the box blade works better unless the material is free of roots and rocks.
@jmwarden14 жыл бұрын
@@realairplane261 I would have to agree the box blade would work better the first time thru the rough stuff and then finish up with the landscape rake.
@realairplane2614 жыл бұрын
John, would you have shaped that hill differently. I would have cut it back more so it could be mowed easier. As far as the box blade goes, I put the breaker times all the way down and shorten the 3rd top point on the 3 pt so the times dig more the first couple of times and then feather the box blade back for finishing. In between we have to pick rocks and roots and then finish. A while back I was planting 3000 red pine on a piece of farm land. An old lady stopped her car, got out and scolded the hell out me for planting trees where the men broke their backs clearing the land for farming. I guess I was feeling like Aldo Leopold panting all those trees.

I have done lots of real stones and I have learned everything I know about stone work from my local masonry dealer. I never used their products but I trust the advice that my local people gave they never steered me wrong.

I used natural stone veneer... I assume it may be more expensive than the artificial stone but it looks better in my opinion and there is no manufacturing faults to try and hide... You also can guarantee you won't see repetition in patterns, colors, etc. the increase in price probably isn't that bad for the amount of area you are working with. I love the shop and watching the progress!

If there are stone walls around the old farms in the area you may be able to find enough stone around your property to do the lower section of the walls. My sportsmen’s club built the fireplace and chimney from stone on the property, with course sand from one of the streams, and the mantel is a quartered log. Of course that was 80+ years ago...

I've installed a lot of the Owen Corning products ... once you have a sturdy backer board up it's pretty easy, like doing a puzzle .... then us a mortar bag to grout/point joints ... *only hard part is picking the style of rock there are so many ... had a lot of complements on the Sonoma style river rock in earth and pink hues .... finishes nicely (grout) ... I usually build a wooden jig of some sort to hold stones firmly in place for an hour
