I'm a bit all over the place this episode, what with challenges from vendors to starting on suspension mods and custom axle calculations. Plus, the plenums get final welded. And finally, I land on an engine lid design. PROGRESS!
00:00 - Intro
00:20 - Shift cable updates
02:00 - Shock droop and axle planning
03:36 - Distortion control!
04:34 - Plenum visuals
06:15 - Engine lid design planning
08:03 - Shaping the engine lid
08:54 - The curve: will this work?
12:03 - Completing the curve
13:12 - Shear, stretch, shrink
18:24 - Still more to do
20:20 - Wrap up and Outro

Great to see you applying the lessons learned from Lazze and demonstraiting his cool tool. The project is really coming along. Great job!

The curve is both subtle and fine to the eyes of this architect. I think you're going in the right direction.

I appreciate hearing "I like it" even more when it's from someone, like you, who has a basis in design. Thanks so much for your encouragement!

I agree that the intake plenums would look better if the welds disappear.

I always smile when people say the 914 looks like a box. There's literally not a single straight line on that car, it's compound curves galore.

Right? But I'm terrified about changing what I've always considered major design elements. It's so easy to screw up how a car looks...

As always great work !!! I do like the idea of the compound curves and matching the curves of the sail panel the roof line, trunk curve (bow), it all seems to be coming together nicely. Your shop is amazing. It makes me wonder how I can get to that point when I retire lol.😂

Thanks for watching and the compliment! I went a little overboard on the shop tools. I could get by with less stuff but having these does get things done quicker - or messed up that much sooner!

New to this build but why not cut a inch or so out of the plenum height to keep it low but if it's being left that way for appearances then it creates a very unique look.

I agree that you need to tweak the side grille areas a bit. Probably only a couple of mm, but getting rid of the change of angle at the edge will (I think) improve the look of the curve noticeably.

Hi Dave - Yep, I'll proabably end up doing that. And thanks for watching/commenting - greatly appreciated!

I have been thinking about a way to narrow the trailing arms to create a little more width in the engine bay. I'll be interested to see if you end up needing to do this or if the factory design will work for you.

Looks FANTASTIC! If you need a new deck lid I have two or three, I can give you one. Best -- Brian

You could continue the curve out to the sail panel by adding a little wedge of metal Looks great

Thanks for posting the build. My build is slowly plodding along behind yours as you blaze a path. It's been painted since the last time I sent you photos :)@@attheredbarn1669

I like it!! Hmmm How about a poly/ clear grill like some of the modern Ferrari's ? Look out the wife has subscribed now too!!!

@19:05 Loving that curve, why not just carry it all the way to the end by adding a piece of curved pie where the straight part is between the lid and the sail panel?

Hey Rand! Yep, that's likely to be what happens...

Can the passenger side throttle body be rotated 180 degrees so that the drive by wire motor is toward the front of the car like the one on the driver’s side?

Your going to build custom airboxes for the air filters… why not mount the throttle bodies to the airboxes?

Can you make the framing go around the front of the motor (if there is room). It would strengthen the whole cowl and give it a clean look. Like you did on the right side. What is your opinion?

Do you think you could have lowered the engine by 3" in modify the motor mounts. So you would not have an issue with CV axle articulation. Great job I have a 914 with a V8 Chevy which I modified had for 20 years would love to do a Ferrari engine there is a guy over here selling one just exactly like your engine I might buy it not sure just waiting for you to finish your cool project. 👍

The bottom of the drive train is level with the bottom of the car so no way to safely run things any lower.

Bosch specifies mounting requirements and, unfortunately, they need to be "right side up".

I am thinking that milling 'Ferrari' off of the plenum would clean things up. If someone asks what engine you are running, you can simply tell them that it is a Ferrari V8.

I hear you but half the fun is having it scream "Ferrari" to all passers-by. I'm not that good at doing subtle... ;-)
