@@mickeythompson9537 Yeah... personally as long as the thing works, does what it claims, and does it well, I don't mind if it's not 1:1 authentic. Though with that being the case, they really should be more open about it- simply adding 'we've tried to replicate the designs as closely as reasonably possible, but had to make some changes in some places without tonally changing the device' would cover it. Treating it as a perfect replica is more than a bit sketchy.

@@jackpijjin4088 Exactly. It's just honesty. They're doing word-spinning. "Custom-wound inductors are very expensive, so we used the analog electronic equivalent." is easy to admit. I just watched kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmHGko1-msRnhck where he says they used discrete components everywhere, and very few op-amps! So they're not being fully coherent.

Please consider this : I would love to try out modular effects. Meaning I want to put DAW tracks through various modules, pedals etc. I mean amplitude-controlled phase shift, distortion, compression, eq, filtering. More advanced stuff would be schmitt-trigger fuzz, octave up fuzz, octave down (mxr blue box) etc. More advanced would be external input section from K2 and envelope follower. In a nutshell 1. Line to modular level (and back) 2. Utility Gain 3. Signal to Trig/Gate 4. Envelope follower 5. Pitch to CV The justification is as follows. With modular you could build a fuzz box, distortion, compressor, tremolo with roughly same set of modules. It's actually more diverse then many pedals but with much more variety. Fixed Filter Bank fits this same category.

Great question! The 921 was released yesterday so it should show up for preorder at your favourite music shop soon. The last missing modules are following shortly. There are no dedicated LFOs - you would either use a 921 or a freely running 921b without the oscillator driver.

Could be interesting as someone who is more than interested but will not be able to afford all the modules in one go, to have a breakdown of what you might need to get started with. Which modules require other modules to actually function properly or to their full potential. Maybe several demo setups with a limited number of modules in each case to demonstrate what can be done.

I am writing an review of some of these modules for a German big online journal. I detect that there are 7 ICs (14 frequencies) in this module but there could be nothing because of the discrete I/O circuitry?? To avoid misunderstandings it would be helpful to get an answer soon.
@behringer
@behringer 3 жыл бұрын
Almost all System 55 modules are completely discrete - no ICs - and therefore using the original circuits. The 914 is partly an exception. While it uses discrete circuitry for the input and output stage, the filter bands use ICs instead of inductors. With inductors this module would have cost hundreds of euros more. The ICs function as the modern days equivalent of the inductors. That keeps the module really affordable and at the same time is still a real analog circuit and no simulation. Hope that helped!

This seems to be an unique filter, that I didnt see on any other synth. Your presentation shows, how much music and atmosphere could be in filtered pink noise. By the way: what means 'vintage' in this context? Isn't it just a phantastic filter? For me this is 'timeless'. One question: for the resonnance, there is another module, right?

Everything i see are filters (low pass and high pass). I havent heard any music. Couldn't I just do this on a synth with dynamic filters? It's interesting but I'm trying to understand why someone would want a eurorack of filters. To filter the filter? And no this isn't a dig a Behringer.
@gr3g0r5
@gr3g0r5 4 жыл бұрын
I don't really understand your question tbh. But the effect of a fixed filter bank cannot be recreated by other types of filters, unless you would buy like 10 of them and a giant mixer. You would typically use this either for drones, or at the end of a mix or in series with a more normal filter or other type of overtone-manipulating device. It's a very powerfull sound design tool that allows a lot more variation than say a normal 24db/oct low pass. You could also use it to filter noise into say a sample and hold to create controllable random CV signals. But to answer your other question, yeah of course most eurorack players want more than one filter. They all sound different and some of us want to make more that one sound at a time ;)

That's the problem of Behringer today: they misunderstand "authenticity" for "it has to have the same jacks and knobs and labeling", limiting the possibilities of the device to that of a 50 year old one. Why don't you just focus on authentic SOUND - and give us new features coming with that sound? In this example, it should be a no-brainer to add CV inputs. Wouldn't hurt anyone, but would increase value and versatility of the module tenfold.
@stefanhennig
@stefanhennig 3 жыл бұрын
I can only guess what Uli thinks, but regarding the other comments, even changing the color or the size of the knobs will change the sound for some of the gearheads here. As for the rest of your question, I can answer that: a voltage controlled filter is a completely different beast than a knob-adjustable fixed-frequency filter. For one thing, you'd most likely replace OpAmps with OTAs and have an entirely different schematic. Then you'd be at exactly the point where you would have gained nothing much over a good software simulation on the PC or on a DSP. IMO, this is the only valid way to do it. If you need a filter with CV inputs, you will have to buy a different one. But that's the charm of modular, isn't it? You can easily do that.
@serafimovych1750
@serafimovych1750 3 жыл бұрын
I would like to add that it is easy to solder individual frequency output jacks to this module. Those can then be patched through VCAs and mixed up. So we are talking about a breakout board without a completely different schematic, consisting only of a few jacks; the approach is still modular. Whether it would make economic sense for Behringer to sell such a thing - no idea. I'd say, yes - other companies are selling simple breakout boards with a big surplus.
