We hope this answers a couple of questions. TLDR would be: - all modules except ADSR and Trigger Delay are 100% compatible to Eurorack - if something looks unusual, it's often just the label - if you push the modules they produce all kinds of nice harmonics Let us know if you have more questions!

I do circuit design and build a lot of others' designs of modern DIY Eurorack and 5U gear, but have no great knowledge of the System 15/35/55 ... So this has been such an informative video and taught me a load of new stuff about these older circuits and how Behringer have built their modules, thank you! I am really appreciating these modules from an entirely new perspective now and even more convinced to collect a systems worth of them.

Magic! Brilliant explanation which shows the "snobs" who say "ordinary people" won't be able to understand this will be wrong. It's like all modular - you have to put in some work to get a good sound - and what a sound! Currently saving for an Akai MPC One, but this or the System 100 are next on my list to add some "modular magic". PS I've already got a Neutron and love it - keep the good stuff coming Behringer :)

I heard somewhere that Dr. Bob Moog had a surplus of doorbell switches, or had noticed an easy access to the doorbell ringers. Since a doorbell works by way of a ‘short to ground event’, this was where the origin of ‘S-trigger’ was derived; doorbells!! I wouldn’t doubt the authenticity of such a claim, as I can recall reading that an early recording studio in Jamaica had made use of many house wiring components, such as light switches, on their mixer panels that they were cobbling together. GREAT WORK AS ALWAYS. THANKS FOR SHARING, I can’t wait!!

It has been almost two years since this came out. I live in Southern California. I've never seen a System 55. The release date is "the future". I think I'm going to buy the components and put it together. The videos for the System 55 serve, at this point, as inspiration for buying the items individually. After two years and no product I wonder if this has been dropped from development, if legal issues came up and suspended further activity, if it started off as a good idea but ended up being postponed when other projects came up. I'm relatively new to modular and looked at the System 55 as an all-in-one stop, but in the time it has taken thus far I've researched other manufacturers with items available on the market.

modular synths can be also very musical, it depends on your skills ;-)
@shottskies4 жыл бұрын
I would to have to agree with you to an extent. It seems often the people with lots of modular of really complicated equipment like to show off the sounds they can make but few seem to making listenable music. Maybe it will come in time...
@malnourishedthoughts65274 жыл бұрын
I think that its difficult to produce tunes that are easily understood by others with modular synths. Some people don't find bleeps musical, while others do have the ability to appreciate sounds and melodies. I appreciate bleeps! But it's more of a personal experience when making music with these types of synths. In some ways, the musicmaker gets all the joy, and the audience...they have to be a specific audience lets say. Now that this technology is available to everyone, I may incorporate some modular into my music... with an actual predetermined goal beforehand, not just getting every module available just because. And I'm not just buying modules just to see how they sounds on my headphones! That's the worst...
@malnourishedthoughts65274 жыл бұрын
@@AnalogAudio1 I think mostly it depends on the modules you have. If one buys one module, they were probably better off buying a synth of equal or lesser value. It's easier to get more mileage out of a regular synth than modular when it comes to composing an actual track. That's my main bit.

Is there an envelope module without the S trigs? I get wanting to be historically accurate but needing to buy an extra module just to use an ADSR is pretty lame. I really doubt it would have changed the character of the envelope to add a V trig output. You can be historically accurate but still innovate at the same time.
@georgeray34924 жыл бұрын
They do have a different series envelope that works with standard gates- the 140 Dual Envelope. Also, the circuit to turn V-Trig to S-Trig is passive and really simple. There is an excellent YT video on building it. Search V-Trig and it will come up. Early Moog keys used S-Trig- Mini all the way through the Source. I've built the adapters to make those types of units work with Gate outs on other equipment.
@MrStanley854 жыл бұрын
Maybe go for the system 100 ADSR it should work standalone to an even lower price i guess :)
@nutritionalyeast79784 жыл бұрын
I agree. not many keyboards have s trig outputs these days, and thats the "historically accurate" way of playing, so is it really sacrificing historical accuracy to just put a trigger inverter in front of the envelopes and gate delays instead of using a giant converter module?
@ezion674 жыл бұрын
Just mix and match, Doepfer or or something else would work fine.
@matthewdonoghue3214 жыл бұрын
I have been looking at modular synth for a while now and the system 55 is the one I have been waiting for... I am a bit of an analog purist at heart and I love the Moog tones so this is a win win. A few days ago I looked at prices and I was surprised that some of them weren't much cheaper (in some cases more expensive) than Doepfer, but now that I see the lack of IC's I understand why and I believe Behringer has made the right choice, they have made the choice that will make me buy this series instead of anything else on the market. However the technical details revealed in this video do open a couple of cans of worms... Firstly I am planning to add in a second oscillator from another manufacturer to allow for oscillator sync, presumable if I do this I wont need the Oscillator controller? Or, will I need the controller as well? Secondly, I was planning on using an old school 1v/oct keyboard and use it to input gate CV signals to the ADSR, I am really unsure in this situation if I would still need the interface module?, and if yes... why? If Behringer really want to impress me they should do another version of the Model D... without USB, without MIDI and without the digital reference freq. In other words... all analog. Do it for the die hard old school analog fans... it would cost less to make and they could see it for the same price... another win win.

I've been digging into that topic recently because I wanted to build a converter by myself (I failed due to insufficient info in the internet): an S-Trigger is basically an inverted V-Trigger signal. Eurorack and most synths have V-Trigger. Systems that work with S-Trigger just won't interact with the V-Trigger.

Moog wouldn't have designed the circuits to accept possibly -12v on the inputs, because they only used -6v, but Eurorack modules can output -12v. So there are three possibilites: 1. Moog for some reason designed his circuits with a very wide input tolerance (not unlikely) 2. Behringer's engineers redesigned it, protecting against -12v, sacrificing 'historical accuracy' or 3. Behringer are gonna let a lot of eurorack users damage their behringer modules by not warning them
