This is such a smooth run for 7 min. I guess Lieb was right, stating it can do better than 6:57 (and we've already heard about the 6:48 on slicks). And soon as you touch the brakes, boost comes back even in (presumably Hot Lap Mode which is the least regenerative via the engine), as it did after coming out of that long straight. Kudos to Porsche

People will say what they want but the Truth remains...Porsche 918 is the Truth no other manufacturer of a hyper car has Dared released their lap times. On every track its tested on its the Truth. Either in Europe or America....The Truth remains the same... Porsche..Lord of the Ring.......

You don't really see the elevation of the track. It was a bit downhill when easily hit 300 km/h with electric boost, and a little bit uphill on the long straight and no boost left from the batteries. Interesting though :)

I don't get it, why does it struggle to reach 300 km/h on the last long straight when it reaches 300 km/h on the shorter one at Close to the beginning of the lap. I can see it goes a lot more downhill when he reaches 304. Still he shouldn't struggle that much to reach 300 km/h.

Only the V8 was working because the e motors ran out of power. The car gained more e power at the end of the straight after braking. Look at the boost gage(e power gage)

Thank you Bruce for clarifying that but still with an Engine like that, you should still be able to reach over 300km/h on that long straight. What you wrote is the very same reason I don't Think McLaren P1 did a faster lap than the Porsche 918 Spyder.

But the p1 has a 730 hp v8 and weighs 3,200-3,300 pounds. The porsche has a 610 hp v8 and weights 3,700 pounds. The p1 has the advantage even if it's e-power is drained

mysuperliam But the p1 doesn't have regenerative braking so in reality the 918 is going to last as a hybrid longer with more gas and electric power in any situation.

Bruce R. And that's the reason why I don't think the P1 was able to beat the Porsche 918 Spyder. The P1 probably ran out of juice after one third of the lap. Without the nifty regenartive braking, the 918 Spyder would be out additional power after a half lap.

A One-Lap-Wonder, I guess! Towards the end it was over with "Boost". After starting to count it reached the 300km/h so easy (2:13)! ...and I was looking forward to see its above 300 performance on the huge final straight. But it was not longer able even to break the 300 barrier. Just a 600 bhp sportscar, which had to fight against the weight of its dead batteries and electric motors. All in all an outstanding and impressive piece of engineering, but if they'd build a sistercar, all the same without the batteries and the electic motors, this might outrun the hybrid on a 5+ laps race well.

Bruce R. Ah, so Mr. Lieb attempts to perform a record lap with the wrong settings, which might be good for top speed in the cornery area of the track, but quite inadequate for a record lap (and top speed at the longest imaginable straight)? I see! So he might should have conserved his "top speed" boost for the huge straight towards the end? Would have brought him some seconds. In any case, on a 24hour race the version with the fly wheel accumulator, they built, would make more sence, than this way to heavy dead battery transporter.

LCdrDerrick lol no he had the right settings. Theres more track performance in hot lap mode when your going for a record time. Race mode is for a endurance race. But going 200mph+ on the last straight isn't going to help very much on the overall lap time, I mean most cars don't even break 186mph but they have much better lap times than say the Bugatti Veyron that hit 220mph on the last straight but still got a time of 918 Spyder at the Nordschleife. The spyder hit 180mph and still beat everyone by a long shot

Bruce R. Well, I understand energy as an investing, even in this situation. No need to burn it after each corner, which is immediately followed by another tighter one, where I have to kill the good dearly bought speed again. Most of his energy is needed for accelerating, not so much for fighting the wind resistance, which certainly raises with the square of his speed. Imagine. if he had safed some of his power as an investment into acceleration and therefore speed for the long straight, the resulting time benefit would have lasted. Racing normaly means to burn as much chemical energy as you have as early as possible into kinetic one and also to kill the kinetic form with your brakes as late as even thinkable. But in this special case his energy was limited, as seen. So it might have been wiser to release it, to transform it in its kinetic form, which is speed, where you don't have to kill it too soon again. So the speed can last and can make more cash in form of lap time.

LCdrDerrick porsche says that you can drive like this: one full nos lap with boost, then go sport mode, half a lap with only the engine and then back to hot lap mode and go for another full lap. another tester said that on the track they were they could drive the car for 6 laps in hotlap mode and needed about 3-4 to fill the batteries back completely with that technique.

5:25-5-30 according to simulations but it can't be in reality because of the bumps plus no driver will be fool enough to risk his life, and no insurance company will accept btw.

It tells you when it's boosting and the state of charge.

You see why 918 can't go beyond 291 because its batteries are almost drained out. P1 is even worse, its batteries are dry only half way through. Only true race car capable of having all its powers for the whole lap is LaFerrari.

LaFerrari has an MGU-K which delivers less power than the electrical engines of the 918, even when the front electrical engine of the 918 shuts at 140-150mph, it may last longer but doesn't give the same boost.

Hahaha... Porsche is the king of the ring! That's for sure ! But which model?? Is it the 918 or the GT3RS ??I thing that's the reason that Porsche made the GT3RS only 500 hp..

SV hits 325 on the straight inspite of being a N/A .but this thing is hybrid still doesn't even touches 300!

+John Kouros sane people who like to keep their cars use the straights to cool the car down. its not good to come to a complete stop very quickly after doing lots of very fast driving. a car needs to cool down properly. besides, most of the fun of lapping the ring comes from the flow of the corners. any idiot in a quick car can take it to a high speed in a straight line. it takes a good driver to get a car around corners quickly.

actually porsches are kinda silent... the Turbo S for exemple sounds like a tesla lol Even the amazing Carrera GT is pretty silent in real life... I was amazed of ow much louder a stock Gallardo was when compared to the stock carrera GT :)

Yeah someone who doesn't understand how it did work, he literally had no boost in the last straight line with the climb so he was relying only on the V8.
