I have the exact same meter, and the same happened to me a while back. What happened was I accidentally connected the 12V power leads of my radio in reverse and although the radio was off, there was 12V on the antenna ground connection for a moment and the meter was shorted through the dial illumination lamp power connection. The same PCB line was burnt, and the 4148 diode on the power line of the meter just blew literally. Managed to repair it while kicking myself back then. By the way on this type of meter, you need to calibrate with the big calibrate pot on the front before taking measurements. There is a "CAL" setting on the switch in the panel, which is for that. I think your measurements were off because you omitted to do that first. A great and very informative video as usual, I wish I had seen this one before I repaired my meter, figuring everything out by myself back then. :-)

Hello, Very nice video. It is more interesting to me because I was thinking of applying your OP amp circuit from #55 to make my Avair AV-600, which is the same as the Diamond SX-600, to read more accurate PEP readings. There would seem to be no circuit diagram for these on the 'net so it was interesting to watch before I even lifted a screw driver. Cheers & 73, Peter, VK5HPC.

Buon lavoro.

I love your videos, I'm learning a lot by watching them! I still have to get used to your English. I'm fascinating how the languages have evolved -- "Watt" comes out "Vatt", but "VHF" comes out "Wee Aitch Eff". The way we pronounce W and V are apparently reversed! I wonder how that devleoped, etymologically? This isn't a disparagement, for those who think I'm making fun of his accent. I'm not, I'm fascinated by it and truly do wonder how that evolved over time between geographical locations. EDIT: Ooh! I found a page that gives the etymological reasoning behind it! They cite "hypercorrection" as the root cause. german.stackexchange.com/questions/1754/w-%E2%86%92-v-v-%E2%86%92-f-why-do-german-speakers-wrongly-transpose-rather-than-shift-when-sp (The URL is misleading...it's not "wrongly", it's just _differently._)
