Sorry I have been so long in reply to this fabulous comment....family issues. This is a comment certainly deserving a reply. I thank you so much for your kind words, and of course I really do appreciate it. First of all, I am pleased you enjoyed the video, that was a great day for me. It seems you have had a good time yourself, visiting a couple of heritage railways....and the NRM next year. Best wishes.....Dave.

I will never forget the experience of riding on the footplate of 92220....the whole 5 miles of the railway...brilliant. It was a really good day that day, and sadly, may never see "Evening Star" running in steam again.

The quality is perfect Dave...Anything of higher resolution would simply not be of that era...It's a superb bit of footage from times long gone. Thank you for taking the time to thread it all together! Evening Star will probably be on permanently static display now as a 2-10-0 with the flangeless centre drive wheels is far too clumbersome for todays modern pointwork. A shame really as the 9F's are so spectacular...I would love to be old enough to remember them in service in the late 50s/early 60's! Magic!

Wonderful comment Stu, thank you very much indeed for that. I must admit, it was time consuming trying to make the sound effects fit....but worth it. You do NOT want to be old enough to remember steam in the 50's etc., believe me, when you get to my age. But then again, I look back at the 50's with fondness when steam was still in full swing.

Could you please qualify your statement about Evening Star's flangeless centre wheels being "far too cumbersome for today's modern pointwork', what do you mean by this?
@sku706 жыл бұрын
@@tulyar1043 The 9F's wheel arrangement puts too much side loading through modern, less flexible P/Way, plus modern pointwork has, in some cases, raised frogs and check rails. The 9F's lateral hornguide and connecting rod tolerances are not great enough to allow more travel, which in turn causes a build up of opposing lateral forces and high risk of derailment and track damage by the centre wheelset, hence the reason you won't see a 9F on any UK network rail mainline nowadays, all 2-10-0's are quite simply, banned. Network Rail also did a design study some years ago and fed the data into VAMPIRE to enable analysis of limits of lateral clearances on coupled wheels to permit transit of

Great to watch 9F's were the mainstay of locos that passed by the bottom of our garden when I was a kid would love to see one on the mainline again alas I do not think this will happen again.

Thank you for your comment, and I should think the only place you will see a 9F now, is on the heritage railway....sadly 25 miles an hour.

Hi Dave. Evening star does looks well back then when she was Steaming. But now she at the National Railway Museum in York. KWVR is a lovely place to visit and ride on the steam trains you know. 1974 wow that’s a long long time ago. Thanks for sharing Cheers ... Josh

Even I was a young man back then, but alas, time catches up and I am 73 on Wednesday. But I have footage such as this, and others taken with my old cine camera....happy day's. Thanks Josh for taking the time to comment, always appreciated.

Another wonderful video, so nostalgic as I am only one year older than 92220. This engine should still be in steam not stuck in a museum. Maybe the G.C people might let her run on their line? Who knows. When is the next installment of Leamington going to be posted? Once again thanks for posting this video.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on my video, and of course, pleased you enjoyed watching. There may be an update on `Leamington Spa` at the end of this month (November 2018).

I agree David, there are some wonderful heritage sites I admit, but I have a particular fondness for the Worth Valley. I did a lot of photography for them around that time, as I was one of the photographers for the railway.

Wow, nicely put together, Dave. She was quite young back then, only a 14 year old! Hard to think she is now nearing 60, where did all the time go? :-) But great to see this old footage from my childhood days - i was 9 back then, seeing this old footage makes me feel older! The old footage quality gives it a sense of nostalgia and age, won't be like that for kids growing up these days, in 50 years time they will be looking back at 1080p HD footage.

WOW....now I really enjoyed reading this comment, and makes all the effort worthwhile. It pleases me to know you enjoyed watching this poor quality film, because as you say, the younger generation are now wanting 4K. Many thanks indeed for your comment...............
