Really enjoy your videos. Ran a 2-155 for a lot of hours when I was a kid. Planted a lot of wheat and beans with a drill like that too. Great memories. Thanks for sharing.

that was a great video Jake. the best wheat we ever had was in about 1980 we planted into dry ground. it snowed a bunch that winter. it didnt spout till early spring. got the frost then . it was enough frost. wet spring then so it made 100 bushles. with no irrigation. my dad would only plant 40# . i would plant 60#. Ilove that tractor

Thanks for the ride alongs. Hope the organic crop idea works out for you guys. I've had pretty good luck with the Kitchen Seeds grasses for my hay field. Stay safe.

We never sprayed for weeds, we had soybeans and would cultivate 2 or three times a year and would walk the beans at least twice a year and pull the weeds that grew in the rows, the corn was cultivated as many times as possible until it got to tall. The only thing that got sprayed was sweet corn and peas we grew for Birdseye and they would just spray for bugs. That was long ago and I know there would be lots that couldn't make the change back to days like that. How about nitrogen can you use it? We used it and our four row planter we use fertilizer when we planted. Don't remember the mixture but it was granular and dribbled it in the corn row when planting. Nitrogen was knifed in when corn was about knee high.

oldfarmer we will be doing similar practices to what u said. And manure or clover for an N source. Thanks for watching

The best drill for everything is the John Deere 750 it is a No till drill but also does well in till situations. The best minimum till drill we used was a John Deere 455 30’. Either one of those would treat you right. I am pretty biased on John Deere equipment however I have helped several people with other drills and believe John Deere has the best options. Always impressed with how quiet the white cab is. Very interested to see how this organic thing goes. Good video.

Good morning Jake! Nice to see you expanding into different ways of farming. I know youll do well. Have planted a lot of rye grass this fall myself. Going to mow it for a forage crop. Also plan on planting peas and oats in the spring. Take care! See you next post.

Sure would be nice to make a little more profit per acre! But if we all went organic a lot of people would starve. Hope it works out for you and the weeds don't take over! Thanks Jake

Northern Wisconsin Farming - in the video of mine "Wheat growing with NO nitrogen applied" •Mar 26, 2017 that was my experiment with thinking wheat could find enough nitrogen on bean land to make a crop. made some wheat but not what wheat with applied nitrogen made. experiments are good like that for telling us stuff we would otherwise not learn.
@jakeziegler5995 жыл бұрын
Northern Wisconsin Farming ya we will see. Goin to have to interseed some clover or will probably spread manure ahead of wheat for an N source.

Organics is a specialized niche. Be sure and do your homework and get your moldboard plow out, (cheapest herbicide available for organics). Those I know who approach organics professionally and seriously, do very well. I know others who have failed miserably. Having watched you farm for several years, I suspect you'll find a gold mine.

Monty Bussard it’s close to a mercury emblem. Story I heard was white hired an engineer from mercury in the early 70s

SoInFarm more tractors would be nice lol but we will only have 30 acres this next year so might try in with what I have and maybe get a round or big square baler in case rain is on the way.

Got to try to get as much profit per acre as you can. Hopefully organic crops can add to your bottom line. Check out Gieger farm on u tube. He does a lot of organic crops and has videos on cultivating for weed control.

Be interesting to see how that organic comes out... Not much organic around here, too many weed seeds in the ground

Gosselin Farms Ed Gosselin ya not much here either. Gona be tough with the weeds but we will cultivate and cultivate and cultivate and use cover crops lol

@@jakeziegler599 easier to do with corn... Wheat is a little more difficult. Either way, I hope it works out for you!!
@jakeziegler5995 жыл бұрын
Gosselin Farms Ed Gosselin ya it is. I think if I have a good stand I’ll be alright. We plant 15” beans now but are goin to plant 30” for the organic so we can cultivate

The old timers used to plant crimson clover in their wheat, barley etc to add nitrogen to the crop that was back before they used much fertilizer. By the time the crop was mature the clover was long dead and out of the way
@jakeziegler5995 жыл бұрын
Corey Trout we are going to try some clover and alfalfa as a N source. Thanks for watching

I'm looking forward to how well organic works out for you. I've got a neighbor that farms organic and I'd swear the world will starve if we all did it that way. He has been doing it for decades, so he is obviously making it work. I used to grow specialty soybeans that went to Japan for tofu. It was called chem-free, I could do any pre-emerge spraying I wanted, but once those beans were out of the ground nothing could be put on them. I couldn't plant them after other soybeans, so they often ended up on corn stubble. We'd have to go out and get any volunteer corn by hand since they zero tolerance for corn. I was looking for a combine just for those beans, because it took so much time to clean the combine up, I wouldn't switch crops until all the chem-frees were harvested. So it's good you have more than one. I got a very good premium on those beans, but they came out with a new variety that made better tofu, but yielded quite a bit lower. That's when I quit doing them. I hope it works good for you, and keep us updated, I am looking forward to some comparisons.
@jakeziegler5995 жыл бұрын
Chris Losey Thanks Chris I’m excited to see how it turns out. Lol there used to be a guy who farmed a 40 organically like that. He couldn’t even harvest it some times because the weeds were so bad. Never heard of that bean market. How long ago was that or do they still have that market for the edible beans for tofu?
@1995jug5 жыл бұрын
Hope it turns out for you seem like organic a big thing now people are getting scared of gmo products.
@mrbill41875 жыл бұрын
Theres a guy here that does organic dry edible beans. They look just like soybeans in the field and he combines them with a 7720. The processor is over in the thumb, but he brags he gets 40$ a bushel so every semi load is 40 grand. Probably a good way to go but I don't take this guys word for it because he's kind of a BS er as well as painfull. Lol I would like to try planting some beans into crimped rye and see if the rye mat is enough that a guy could get away without spraying.
@jakeziegler5995 жыл бұрын
mr Bill I bet he’s getting that but there is definitely a right and wrong way to go about farming organically. There was a guy here that did that. He sprayed a burn down on the rye then planted into it held the weeds pretty well
