Thanks, I replaced the new A/C compressor, done everything according to the book. the compressor would not cut on. I thought it was a. fuse but looked under the pass side looked where you said and a 15 amp was burnt. the system would not accept the 34a without the a/c compressor clutch turning. replaced the fuse and WHAM!! it started pulling 34a and everything is GOOD! thanks for the vid!!! .

I replaced my AC compressor a few years ago not because of the AC but the front bearing was howling and only a matter of time until it seized, it was my winter vehicle only so no need for AC. Originally bought a bearing only from ebay then found that it was riveted in so I replaced the compressor for 100.00 shipped from ebay, added the oil and good to go

When you guys buy a gauge set at Harbor Freight, buy the one with the meters reading F not C unless you are used to Centigrade readings, you can order gauges on Ebay that are Fahrenheit scale like I did cause I didn't pay attention and It was too long to take them back.

Great video! I have a 1997 TJ. I checked the relay and fuse and they’re good. Recharged the system and the dryer accumulator hoses have condensation and feel cold, but the air is still hot! The condenser is at least turning. Should I just replace the condenser at this point?

I would not throw a compressor at the car just yet. You may be low on Freon and a can from the Auto Parts store just might get you back up and running. However, a pressure check would determine the low on gas or compressor failure scenario. I have blindly threw a can in there and that worked for me but, I cannot recommend that as I have gages and know what to look for.

I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee i ride and a parts jeep 96 Cherokee Country. Ok My ac compressor locked up on the 2000 . it wasnt working and was making funny noise b4 it finely locked up. So i knew the one in the 96 was good so i took the 96 off but the lines attach different on the 2000. where they go in the main back on the 96 and on the top of the 2000. So i changed the back out so i could use my 2000 lines etc. I put new oil 4 oz. ruffly maybe a little more and it took the oil fine but will not take the freon. I paid a guy 25 bucks to have it vacuumed and had no leaks but it still wont take freon. could a bad AC pressure switch cause it not to take freon or maybe the condenser is stopped up when the compressor locked up and iit got metal in the condenser and stopped it from taking freon or what... Im at a lost and dont have much money...but I need my ac bad. i have a hard time breathing when i get really hot... So all help appreciated...

Good job presenting the information in the video. I feel I benefited from having watched it. I have a Jeep (95 Grand Cherokee 4.0L) very similar to the one you have. I was wondering what your final pressure measurements on the low (Blue) and high (Red) gauges were or what the range is supposed to be/called for? I will be doing exactly what you did in your video etc. My wife has been on me to 'solve' the AC problem with our Jeep. Her "bitch" is my command...j/k lol. Any info you'd care to provide is much appreciated. Thank you.

Thank you for your comments. I generally find that 35 on the low end brings the high end up above 200. Officially, final values are based on the current temps at the time of filling. A friend of mine at work ran into the same thing I did but I did not talk about in the video. For some reason, once the pressures start to approach 30-35. stop and go for a drive. Even at fast idle, we found the system really does not behave correctly until used for a while. We both overcharged the system and had to deal with that. The system should need less than 1-1/2 pounds which is 2-cans or less.

***** Thank you for taking the time to convey that information to me, it is much appreciated. I feel confident now that if I take my time and work within the parameters you have articulated, I will have a good shot at it working out. Even if it doesn't, It will be no worse off than it is currently and I will have gained some experience with the whole process.

If the wire connectors are different, then it is just a matter of hooking up the wires. You can put them together by cutting the terminals off and hooking them up or go through the trouble of getting a new connector and place the corresponding terminals on the wire and hook them up. If you do not want to delay the job just cut the ends off and wire them up Correctly. You may need to add a length of wire to get them to reach each other.

@@A_Renaissance_Man thanks for the quick response! I have cut the original connection and it's two wires. The compressor appears to be one wire. I'm not sure what would connect where.

Hi there.....I have a question if you don't mind. I had my power steering pump and hose replaced also a new thermostat installed and now my a/c compressor is making loud screetchy noises....the shop manager told me that the compressor is shot. +Poetikk Zoul The reason I started working on my cars is because I have had incidents happen to me like the one you describe. Odds are the compressor just broke soon after someone worked on it. The compressor is fixed and the system is sealed and not subject to tampering as easily as other parts. Get a second opinion. The power steering pump mounting plate can crack or break causing the belt to squeak. Or the pulley on the pump was not installed correctly causing the belt to be misaligned and that will cause the belt to squeak too. The squeaking belt will make a lot of noise and make you suspect all kinds of things are bad. I hope I helped.

Hi, I have a question regarding the AC sustem of my 1998 Grand Cherokee 5.2 V8 Limited. Besides the High pressure Port located in the body of the compressor it has 2 Low pressure ports, one in the input line of the evaporator (like in your car shown in this video) and another one in the top of accumulator. The question is: Do you known by any chance the Reason to have 2 low pressure ports? Does it matter into which one I recharge my freon R134a? Thanks a lot for your attention.
@A_Renaissance_Man
@A_Renaissance_Man 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for asking. What I have always done is placed the refrigerant in the line near the evaporator. That was always safe for me and any extra would be caught in the accumulator. The connector bought in stores for adding a can will only connect a low side connector. Also, in this way the vapor can be added to the low pressure side without interfering with the cycle. Adding a can can take up to 20 minutes and will seem longer. You can also just add until the air is 40 degrees Fahrenheit and then just disconnect the can.

I have an 04 Jeep Liberty. The A/C works pretty good, but I think it be colder. Anyway, I noticed the compressor runs all the time. The clutch is engaged when ever the A/C or defroster is on. However, on all the other vehicles I've owned, the compressor would cycle on and off occasionally. So it it normal for the compressor to run constantly?
@A_Renaissance_Man
@A_Renaissance_Man 8 жыл бұрын
Actually the compressor can run for long periods of time. Defrost is definitely a constant on condition to keep the windshield clear. High humidity, even in low temperatures will keep the compressor on. Think of the AC as more of a dehumidifier than an air temperature cooler. Cycling on and off can mean low levels of refrigerant but not always.

hey I have a jeep liberty 03. The ac is blowing hot air. I took it to the shop they said it has a blockage and they are replacing some hoses and it was pretty much out of Freon. They replaced the Freon they said the compressor is most likely bad to. After they do the hose replacement if I have to put a New compressor in will the Freon need to be drained again or can I just put the New compressor in and just make sure it has proper amount of oil in it and be good to go

I have seen them but the numbers are relative, you can shoot for general settings like 120 high and 35 low or you can research the exact pressure settings of the day based on the current temperature and humidity. There are plenty of videos that address those values as well as Googling the subject.

The AC in my 96 Grand Cherokee had been working, but when I started it during a cold snap of 6 degrees below zero F several weeks ago, the AC pulley started to squeal and smoke (Even though I don't think the AC was turned on) and I shut it down. Later the pulley was seized and would not turn, and after removing the clutch disk, pulley, and coil, the coil is toast and the compressor itself is seized. Today my new compressor arrived and I pulled the old one, removed the valve body, and when I turned the compressor over only a few drops of oil came out . The new compressor has 8 ounces of PAG46 in it and I am not sure what to do. I don't really need AC right now, but I have to put the compressor on so I can put the belt back on to run the engine and move the Jeep. Any suggestions?.

IMO, if you going to go through the trouble of replacement, why go cheap. Having said that, I did go to the junk yard one time for a compressor. That was back in the 80's when I was both cheap and poor.
