“The Master Lock is going be a 4 pin core with no security pins and that’s going to be very easy to pick.” I learned to pick on that Master Lock. It took me 3 months to pick it open reliably. Although now it hardly ever takes longer than 30 seconds, it goes to show that it can take a very long time to get the feel of picking. I really enjoy this hobby and it’s very relaxing. All because a couple of years ago, I went down the KZbin rabbit hole at night and started to watch LPL and BosnianBill. Thanks guys!

So there is no real need for security pins at all. If it's not possible for your average Joe to just buy the tools and pick it I with minimal preparation (2-3 hours) than you already passed a threshold where no normal person will just break in because it's easy.

I just bought that exact master lock padlock today at Home Depot hoping to practice. The packaging rated it as a 10/10 security rating. Needless to say it took me (and I have about two hours TOTAL of picking experience, I started last week) about 5 minutes to pick it with a standard hook I have from the Genesis set that my friend got for me as a prank gift. In fact, it took me longer to actually remove the padlock from the packaging. I had to get a set of shears I use to trim bushes to get the damn thing out of the horrible packaging. The key is actually still in the packaging because I gave up trying to get it out, not that I need it anyways.

Another great and informative video. Thanks from one of your many fans from the other side of the world. (Australia). I've recently purchased the Bangood tublar impresioning tool, (terrific tool, & thanks for the review) & i would like to know how to remove the tensioning/drive pin from the inside of the tool. It didn't come with any instructions or schematics. If any of the many fans out there can advise, It'd be much apreciated. Thank you.

This was a great video. After hearing all the negative about master locks I was really hoping to hear what might be worthy substitute. Thanks!

Oh they are, I use to work in a data center and we would have races... starting at one end of a hall we would go to each locked cage and pick every lock open and run back. person with the fastest time wins. Always raking never picking... I got good enough I could do some with just one stoke..

@@zbeast That sounds like fun, and is a very embarrassing statement for Masterlock.

Nice example of what you can expect for a $12 lock. It’s clear that security pins are not that expensive, because the Brinks lock is even cheaper with one extra pin.

Master Lock would make a perfect Dilbert cartoon... Boss: Nobody wants to buy your piss poor designed lock. Dilbert: What do you mean? I put security pins as requested. Riffraff: You did until the bean counters got a hold of it and redesign it to save 15 cents per lock. sigh..

Is it just me or the Master Lock shackle is chipped where the locking lugs are supposed to engage?
@enderbro81925 жыл бұрын
It appears so, also it uses ball bearings instead of lugs.

No lock ever made has ever kept anybody's valuables secure. (HINT: It's called "breaking and entering" rather than "picking and entering" for a reason.) But the fact is, most people don't want your stuff bad enough to risk prison for it.

When doing these tests, can you show ways (or link to way if you've done it before) that thieves might break these locks? I.e. the 2 wrench method, and cutting? just to get an idea of which lock is really better. Where i live, most are cutting locks and not skillful enough to pick them
