Luckily there is no way to mass produce the skills required to use the pick on these type locks. It takes so long to get good enough to open these locks and I'd argue that the talent required to get them open in the same speed as LPL is probably only attainable by the 1% of people who take up lock picking.

@@Quick_in_and_out Right. These cores are still quite good for most peoples' purposes, and as long as the lockmakers avoid putting in design flaws that allow people to bypass it, and put them inside of beefy lock bodies, they're well worth owning.

@@Quick_in_and_out Hell looking at how long it took LPL to pick this one even with him noticing things that an amateur would never even think of, I'd say this would be a good deterrent for any average burglar. Judging by the materials used the only viable attack would be a disc cutter and that would make it noisy enough for the lock to still have done its job perfectly.

@JF32304 4 жыл бұрын
It really isn't that difficult. The slop in the lock is what really helps these pickers. If everything was good and tight on the tolerances... It would be much much harder to pick. Almost impossible. If every piece was machined within .0001 tolerance you couldn't get it without a key. You have to think... With the slop in the tools, that slop directly connects to the slop in manufacturing. When they use a paper clip to open it... It's not even a lock lol. The disks in this video are stamped brass, if they used machined steel wafers they couldn't get it. Hell, you could laser cut them and have built a better core. i need to invent an un-pickable lock.

@@lockpickinglawyer The last disc is actually there just to give the key tip a grip on the core, since disc detainer needs at least one 0 cut to work. I work alot with abloy locks, and newer ones also have 11 discs, where the oldest ones actually have only 10, and instead the top one, which nowadays is a spinner, was the 0 cut for the grip on the core, and the bottom of the core, which now holds the extra disc, instead was just a slot for the tip of the key. TL;DR: The 11th disc is just for tension

Not sure about it but what is the point in preserving the integrity of a lock if all keys are lost? Starting from that premise I guess it's usually cheaper to just drill through the lock than paying an expert to actually pick the lock. As you said they're in a controlled environment, it's not as if they were stealing stuff where time and stealth are much more constraining.

I now saw several trays for pinnings, but they all cover the standard core design with two pins, a spring and maybe some master wavers. I'm a bit curious why there are no pinning trays for Disc Detainer locks yet ...

I thought all of Anchors locks used Scandinavian oval cylinders, and not their own cores. Color me surprised. Note: The "-3" at the end of the designation means it is a class three on the 5-degree national Swedish scale. Level 3 is the highest anyone would normally go on a home or for example on a motorcycle. Class 4 and 5 is only really used in for example military installations or other very high security applications.

That ought to be a good lock. Anchor is a small Swedish producer of high quality, high cost locks. The simpler model without shackle protection is called 830-3 and costs around 90 US$. I have not found any price for 833-3, but it will surely be more expensive. On the other hand, you can expect the lock to last a lifetime and then some.

When you are installing those disks they have a special number and a special pattern. If you look at the little nubb that's showing on all the disks. Btw. This is one of Sweden's most sold anchor locks sold in the world. Best regards a locksmith from Sweden

Cool, you've got an Anchor Las in your collection now. Jammy sod, those things are quite exclusive, hard to source only one place I know that sells them...securitysnobs. Anchor Las is on the same shelf as an Abloy in quality, strength and security. I'd love the Anchor Las 590-6 its their CEN 6 padlock...at $225 dreaming for now. Anyway, well done for picking that lock! 😀👍

Im from Sweden and trying to learn! You are just amazing at lockpicking! im trying but i only got the basic tools. And cheap ones.. maybe a set of 10 different picks. I've learnt to open pad locks without spools just as fast as if you had a key, but i have been struggleing with a Kaba lock for days now, from the looks of the key there are 4 very small dimples on the top and bottom (these keys work both ways) and there are 10 dimples on each side of the key (20 really but the other half is just a copy of the other side). I watched ur video on picking a Kaba lock. But i just cant do it, i have tried for maybe one hour totaly. Is it just that these locks are VERY hard to pick or am i just bad at learning? Doesnt seem like i get any response at all from the lock, like you get from other locks with spools usualy?! I can also meantion that the lock im trying to pick is brand new and they changed doors on some of our garages and the keys wont come for 8 weeks.... and i need to get in now, dont wanna have to cut it open with an angle grinder xD

"This half-moon shape, which I think is some sort of anti-picking thing, but it didn't stop me." hahaha Just discovered this channel, amazing to watch, I do have some questions - How did you get into this? Were you taught by your clients? Do your lawyer colleagues know you do this and what do they think? Or do they just say "hey, creating work for us, good job!"
@NothingPicksLocks
@NothingPicksLocks 4 жыл бұрын
The shape of the disks (half moon) is because the key only has bitting on one side so those cutouts give the other side of the key somewhere to fit otherwise the back side of the key would turn the disks instead of the bitting.

I work as a network engineer and was visiting a customer today to solve an issue they were facing. Sitting quietly peering into my terminal, finding how to solve the first half of the problem we had I muttered "I think we just had a nice click out of one..." and everyone around the table looked at me like I spoke words noone could understand. People don't understand problem solving the way it works inside my head these days.
