You mentioned loc-titing the flex plate bolts. Something that "happened to me", I worked as a lot attendant for a gm dealer here in Ohio, a customer from Texas traded in his old Silverado for a new Sierra. I was asked to take this new truck back, gas it up and wash it. When I started the truck, it didn't sound right. I did that 4 or 5 times and it wasn't right. I told the salesman about it and he was rushing me because the customer was heading back to Texas as soon as his truck was delivered. My gut said have it checked, so I did, which pissed off the salesman. He came back to the service department, where the service advisor told him that the truck wouldn't have made it back to Texas.....all of the flexplate bolts were extremely loose. The salesman apologized to me and told me that he would never question my judgment again. The customer asked to see me and he thanked me for my awareness and initiative to have service check it. Then he stuck $50 in my shirt pocket as a tip for saving him a breakdown and a headache somewhere between Ohio and Texas.

One thing I didn’t see you cover which I believe is important but nobody really mentions it. On your rocker arms, you’ve got a two different size oiling holes. The side with two holes on the rocker, needs to be facing down towards the exhaust manifold. Not facing up. There’s only two ways to do it, up or down. But down towards the exhaust is always what I’ve heard. Great series though. I’ve asked plenty of questions in which you’ve answered. Thank you so much for the help. All I’m waiting for now, is my new torque converter from dodge to come in and my engines going back in the car. Hopefully it works. There’s internal damage in one of the lifter bores. It’s not scratched or anything, it’s just missing a small round chunk from when my lifter exploded. The pin holding the roller in, launched out when it exploded, and took a round chunk off with it. The lifter still sits in there flush with no play so hopefully it goes well lol. If it doesn’t, I’ll be out another set of lifters, another new cam, and I’ll be going with a brand new engine block lol. Learning experience to see how perfect everything REALLY has to be. There’s internal damage on my came journals on my 4 wheeler, but I still slapped performance mods in her and she’s running amazing!!! So hopefully cars are robust like 4 wheelers lol

Very helpful videos! I use most of them to rebuild the Hemi myself not too long ago. But you were talking about the O2 sensor getting in the cylinder. I had something similar to that happen when I built mine. The nut for my exhaust down pipe fell into one of my cylinders and I did not realize it until I was trying to tighten down the torque converter bolts. I was not a happy camper. I had to disassemble the whole driver's side top of the engine to get a nut out of the engine. 🥴

I hope you don't mind me picking your brain. 2008 Hemi for a Ram Truck. I did a basic rebuild on it, including a new melling oil pump, generic water pump, generic "Enginetech" non-mds lifters, PAC valve springs rated for 0.600 cam lift and a comp cam stage 2 cam (220/230 dur@50 and .596 lift). I had the head milled 0.006". I have the MDS delete plugs and also have them disabled in my tune. I Finished rebuild, started it up and it ran very bad - lots of lifter chatter and I had to pull an astonishing amount of fuel from the fuel trims (38%) in order to kinda-sorta idle. I pulled the front cover back off and checked my timing which was spot on. I ran a compression test on each cylinder and it was quite low - 130 or so each. At 205k miles before the rebuild, it was 155psi for each. I had measured the pushrods for zero lash and added 0.050" preload when I ordered the custom length pushrods. Thinking that the valves weren't closing, I put a zip tie between the rocker shaft and the shaft mount. Did the intake cam first, saw 170 psi immediately. Did the exhaust, and it didn't change. So I would think that meant the intake pushrod was too long. However, I bolted everything back together and noticed that on many of the intake pushrods, I can actually push in the pushrod by hand (Feels mushy). Perhaps 1/8 to 3/16 of an inch. I saved some of my OEM lifters and they are hard as a rock, I would be surprised if I can move them 0.001". The pushrods in the engine now (That I can push down) have run for about 3 hours/22 miles or so when trying to break the engine in. Shouldn't they be pumped up and also hard as a rock? I pulled off the oil pump in order to check the timing, so It's no longer primed, but I stood on the starter for over a minute and didn't see the oil pressure gauge move. Should the oil pump prime by then? Since this is off a truck, the pickup is all the way in the back of the pan. I'm trying to figure out if I have an oiling problem, or my lifters are bad, or if the pushrod length is off. I should note, the oil pressure when I was breaking it in was less than before the rebuild, but not bad either. The computer logs showed it at 25psi with a 1000 rpm fast idle on straight 30 break in oil. Thank you in advance if you have any ideas. Thanks for making these great videos!
@ReignitedAuto3 жыл бұрын
Hey Tucker, I'd definitely be trying to figure out why the oil pressure is low before doing anything else. Make sure the pickup tube o-ring is in good shape. A brand new oil pump should certainly be moving a lot more than 25psi when cold. That could definitely have an effect on the lifters getting fully pumped up with oil, which could in turn cause your low compression numbers. So my advice would be to chase the oiling situation before you do anything else.

When you installed the harmonic ballancer/main crank shaft pully you didn't seem to line it up or "time" it in any way. Does it matter how it's timed to the crank, or is it not really a harmonic ballancer at all, just the front pully and it doesn't matter how it goes back on?

are these engines known for head gaskets? I have 130k on a 2013 ram truck and it's got a cyl 1 misfire code. I used a camera and the cyl at the top on the head looks wet with coolant and the plugs are white. I'm going to use a coolant system pressure tester and the camera to see if I can see leaking. I don't think I have a bad lifter as it only flashes the CEL if I'm on the highway trying to floor it. weird thing is, when it's into it's misfire issue and the light is flashing, if I turn the ignition off and back on, it goes back to normal and no misfire. if I don't, the misfire wont clear up for a half mile or so. it's as if the cyl has been shut down of fuel and the engine feels extremely rough trying to keep it at the speed limit. then it clears up on it's own. but the ignition trick works every time. i've watched a few other videos and the guys are soaking the head bolts in oil overnight and all kinds of other nonsense. where to people get this silly crap from? I knew right away to stop the video LOL it's one thing to lube the bolt to get a proper torque reading but you don't have to soak bolts overnight in oil.

Why would I have excessive play in my rocker arm and foods after a full rebuild. May I mention it is the exhaust side on drivers side
@ReignitedAuto3 жыл бұрын
Have you run the engine yet? Are the lifters new? If they are then they likely haven't been pumped up with oil yet and the play is coming from just the spring resistance in the hydraulic portion of the lifter. Any more details?
@freddiejennings86903 жыл бұрын
@@ReignitedAuto yes I've started the engine. The lifters are new. I reused the rods and rocker arm assembly. Cam was inspected by the machine shop. Engine had 141000 when valve seat dropped. Bored engine. 020. Upon installing rods the 3 5 7 rod barely connected to the rocker arms. I mean a considerable distance In terms of seating in the cup. I thought too that the lifters needed to be primed up too. When it cranked up I thought it was about to beat the cover off. Drove down rod bout a mile no change. Let it cool down removed cover still a ton of play. Crank engine on the 2 4 6 8 bank to watch tge dynamic of 1 3 5 and 7 all where oiling pretty well. But that slack never recovered. I removed all the rods. Inspected length they are all the same inspected Rackers. I really looked them over well. No discrepancies.. oh and theses are the exhaust side as well don't remember if I mentioned that. My thinking is I may have switched the rockers from the right side where the #8 dropped may have kicked and bent the rocker itself. Don't know. @budlanctot30602 жыл бұрын
@@freddiejennings8690 may not help you now. But he never spoke to the issue of rocker gear. After a catastrophic failure like he had, you should disassemble each rocker arm assembly and thoroughly clean everything anywhere metal debris could end up. You need to work with one assembly at a time if you're a noob. The rocker shafts are different for intake & exhaust, and they have to be oriented a particular way or you can destroy your engine eventually. The shafts have a notch on one end. For lt. head int shaft notch is up and forward; for exhaust shaft notch is up and rearward. Just the opposite for rt. head int notch is up and rearward, exhaust notch is up and forward. This is EXTREMELY important, if not correctly done the rockers, shafts and even lifters will not be properly oiled. This can lead to total engine destruction. I don't know if this is your problem or not. Your issue may be just using the short pushrods for some of the exhaust rockers positions.

kinda off this topic but question for you... 2016 Ram 5,7. What is the part on the rear of the intake manifold that has the electric connector thats a bitch to get at? What is it called and what does it do?? Cant find any info on what it is and what it does? Not the MAP sensor but the part on rear back of manifold. Any help appreciated...thanks
@ReignitedAuto2 ай бұрын
That part is the SRV actuator. The "short runner valve" actuator. The intake manifold has variable length runners inside it to give better performance at lower and higher RPM and that actuator controls the runner valve that switches between the two lengths.

I’m doing new cylinder heads on my 2005 300C. When I did my final torque angle of 90*, I ended up with a torque or around 85-90 lbs. I noticed you put you bolts in dry. I oiled mine. Do you think that is where I’m finding the difference in final torque values?
@ReignitedAuto3 жыл бұрын
Probably so, its not mentioned in the service manual to oil the bolts. That being said, I don't think you'll have any issues. 👍

Man maybe its jus me but when I put those rusty looking exhaust manifolds I would've sprayed them flat black to make it look a little better.
@ReignitedAuto3 жыл бұрын
Surprisingly the manifolds are really hard to see in the car, they fit underneath the heads so tightly you almost can't see them.

If the one push rod is fairly higher than the other 3 do I just tighten slowly for the valve to shrink to be able to seat the rest in, or am I supposed to turn the engine and try to adjust them evenly ?
@ReignitedAuto Жыл бұрын
Either approach works fine. I usually move back and forth along the rocker shaft tightening the bolts a half turn at a time to get them to seat evenly. 👍

I was told not to drop the spark plug in it may hit the engine and change the gap
@ReignitedAuto3 жыл бұрын
Only if you're Hulk Hogan 😄 it actually takes a fair bit of force to change the gap on a spark plug.
@budlanctot30602 жыл бұрын
@@ReignitedAuto I disagree. Much easier to close gap inadvertently, not so with increasing the gap, especially if you are working with iridium plugs.

Do you ever turn the engine a bit by hand to get the push rods more level or install the rocker arms
@ReignitedAuto3 жыл бұрын
You certainly can if you want to. I don't because I've done so many of them I don't need to, but it definitely can make it easier. 👍

I dont see in any videos how to torque the camshaft bolt without having the engine turn before torque spec is met?? I was told not to use the timeing chain tension to hold the camshaft in place??
@ReignitedAuto3 ай бұрын
Best option that I've found is to access the flex plate and stick a pry bar in there to keep it from rotating 👍

Please excuse my ignorance... I would like to know if im able to use a 2016 Hemi Charger cylinder head on a 2003 Dodge Ram Hemi? Your help would be great. Thank you!
@ReignitedAuto2 жыл бұрын
No it won't work, you can only use a cylinder head up to 2008, anything newer will not fit. It'll bolt up to the engine, but you'd have to change a bunch of other stuff to make it work.
@BWADaniel3 жыл бұрын
Hey! I’ve got a question. Did you pre soak your lifters? I’m getting mixed answers on doing so. I’ve got a new camshaft & new lifters and I’m not sure if I should pre soak them with oil. What exactly did you do?
@ReignitedAuto3 жыл бұрын
It's not completely necessary, it definitelyhelps them quiet down faster if you soak them, but either way they're going to rattle for a bit when you first fire it up. If the rattle doesn't go away after about 20 min of driving then something isn't right. 👍
