My coolant reservoir is getting oil, is this the main cause?
@IAutoEnthusiast2 жыл бұрын
@@Alien_A-7 majority of the time that oil and coolant mixing means it's a head gasket issue. An oil cooler that uses the coolant system and is defective could cause the transfer from one to the other, but further diagnosis would help find the reason.

@@IAutoEnthusiastThank you for the quick reply. My first impression was the head gasket but when I checked the engine oil, it is very clean. No sign of coolant inside the engine. . I've read some blogs and they said it's the oil cooler seal then I found your very helpful video how to. I really appreciate you helping like us with very small knowledge in auto repair.

Great educational video! Good alternative way, (instead of filling the oil filter with oil) is to disconnect the lead to the dizzy and prime the engine about 5 short times to get oil pressure.

You should try this on the SH! Even less room, AND the oil cooler is facing downwards, so the O-ring just falls out. I think I’m going to use assembly lube or even valvoline to get it to stick.

Very helpful vide. I plan to do this next weekend. Got a quick question, what's the symptom before doing this? Will the dripping oil fall onto the exhaust and create smoke?
@IAutoEnthusiast4 жыл бұрын
@@racsowang if the oil seal begins to leak, slowly. Yes, it will drip near or on the exhaust. If your seal fails, your oil pressure will be lost, the oil will leak very quickly onto whatever surface the vehicle is on, and your oil light on your dash will come on. There will be little to no oil pressure to operate the motor.

@IAutoEnthusiast4 жыл бұрын
If you can not find a leak from a seal or gasket. I'd look at the oil pump, may have to be replaced and removing the pan to look at the oil pickup tub, could be clogged. Vtec solenoid gasket replacement as well for the valve head. How many miles?

Would this cause a massive oil leak under the passenger side of the car? I can't find the source, and I see no evidence from above or under the car
@IAutoEnthusiast2 жыл бұрын
I've seen front crank seals leak so bad that they leak towards the middle of the oil pan. Rear main seal could be a factor. The oil cooler seal is my go to if it leaks large amounts. Even if it is not the oil cooler seal, replacing it is a good thing.

Do you have to drain all of the car’s oil before removing oil cooler? Will the entire oil system flush out or just a little that is sitting in there?
@shankerbhardwaj2 жыл бұрын
So drain engine oil before replacing seal?
@IAutoEnthusiast2 жыл бұрын
No, the oil remaining in the pan will not come out of the oil cooler. There will be some oil remaining in the system that will find it's way out but not a ton.

Do you need to drain all of your oil to do this replacement? Or can you get away with just draining the oil filter?

You could get by without draining the oil. Might make a mess, but when these seals give, they make a big mess. Just make sure you go slow and ensure the oil is cold.

@cbdreamer17093 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video. I definitely don’t do that.
@IAutoEnthusiast3 жыл бұрын
It is a practice. An opinion that the oil pressure being delivered to the important components can drop off as oil fills the filter. If the filter is already somewhat full than the oil being delivered has less drop off time, maintaining the pressure. It may not be important to some, but to performance builds, any practice that can reduce premature wear is something to consider.
