It's interesting; in the earlier part of that decade, WWII, a great many people were getting laid! That, and his experience (from what I've read) was far from universal. Also, "petting" can mean a few different things, if you catch my drift. Besides, class differences play a role. Anyway, memories like this are crucial to preserve, so well done!
