98 Ford Expedition Oil Filter Adapter Gasket & Lines (Leaking Oil into Coolant) EP122

In this episode we dive into a difficult job replacing the oil filter adapter gasket that is allowing engine oil to seep into coolant system. You’re supposed to remove the front differential but I was able to squeeze in and get er done; probably one of the more difficult dexterity level jobs I’ve done in a while. @@LastFrontierGarage thank you Last Frontier. Do you know if those o-rings can be replaced or I have to replace the whole oil lines assembly. 99 ford expedition 5.4L 2valves 4WD serial L Windsor. By the way I bought it in 2017 and I had flushed the coolant about 30 times to then replace the radiator. and the heather cores still get clogged. This time I'm going to flush ot from the engine block drain plug. Thank you so much.

@@RXY7 you have the oil filter under the driver side front bumper correct? The lines do bolt up to part that you screw oil filter on to; I didn’t have much luck finding the individual o-rings as a listed part, we had to match them up from a o-ring/gasket variety pack. Let me know if you find the specific o-rings, would like to have more of an OEM fit.

Well mine has a sending plate where yours bolts to the adapter but mine has the cooler sandwich too. Now it makes sense. They used a large Allen hex bolt I'm assuming it's 14mm (I hope!). There's about 2.6 inches between the bolt and the frame. I heard someone say in a forum that they cut about 3/4" off an 14mm Allen key and stuck it inside a regular 14mm 6 pt wrench and that gave them a much lower profile for attack.

I'm dealing with same issues I thank I'm gonna run my hoses underneath the power steering line seems Ford dropped the ball on installation from the factory don't see any reason we can't just run them under the steering line and Def a headache to mess with mines damn near wore a hole through my steering line to

is there any way to delete this system and go back to the standard filter on the block? it is a really big inconvenience to have to reach behind the fender to do oil changes

Hi Ely, I believe it might be a possibility, I’m not sure though would have to do some research. Your best bet might be to call a local Ford dealer and see if someone in parts has any info on it.

My 97 4.6 Roush F150 had the oil filter attach easily under the motor too. Everything about the 5.4 2V are a giant PITA.

replaced my oil cooler lines 98 expedition yesterday! easy , took about 1 hr tops. you do everything from under vehicle. line that attach to oil filter has one bolt on filter side and the tricky one behind filter. the two bolts at oil cooler, kinda tricky , you just need swivel socket and a small extension and fish it through to bolt to remove top and bottom bolt. need a small container to catch a little oil once you disconnect lines. replace with new one's. don't over tighten ..aluminum fittings. 1 st time i replaced mine lasted a little over 4 yrs....i think. bottom line very easy job.

Are you referring to the adapter itself or the gasket? The adapter itself seems to be very hard to find, have you called a Ford parts dealer to see if they know anything?

@@LastFrontierGarage it's the 4.6l. In my '98 Expedition. My oil filter is relocated to underneath the front bumper. The part I need is, in fact, the one in this video. I just cannot seem to find it

Felix Sanchez what year do you have? If this part is original on yours there is a high likely good that it is the culprit. Very common on these. Mine has about 150,000 miles and was original and it indeed was the fix.
